Great guide on a scenic & long trip

Our guide, Barrrrrbarrrra!, ( roll your r’s!), was excellent! Very informative, kind, funny & knowledgeable. She kept our large group together and on time at the necessary expense of getting everyone together at the meeting points earlier than needed. We were disappointed by the limoncello tasting. It was just a guy standing out front of a shop giving out tiny free samples to everyone, including our group. You can find that at other places. I would recommend skipping that as it wasted valuable time which was very short in each town. The little headsets that they use at the Colosseum and other places would be very helpful. She had a microphone and speaker, but our group was so large and the places were crowded & noisy that it was hard to hear her; not her fault though. If you want to spend more than 60 quality minutes in one of these places, pick Positano and just go there. Skip the dozens of shops unless you like the touristy tchotchkes. Although if you like lemons, this is the place for you! We do give it 5-stars; it was a very efficient way to see both places and the “whistle stops” at each place are necessary to keep it under a 15-hour day. Barbara is the guide you want! Ciao, ciao!

Hiatham (Hisam) was a great guide with a lot of knowledge to share about Roman history and unique details of the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Colosseum. If you’re doing this tour, ideally an earlier time of day is the way to go to avoid larger crowds as the day continues.

Even if you don't love...

Even if you don't love wine, as I do, this is a magnificent way to experience Tuscany. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this excursion, and was very grateful that our guide Antonino was attentive to my accessibility needs. I use a mobility aid to get around, and he very kindly checked in on me at regular intervals to ensure I was as comfortable as I could be. I come from an area that is particularly hilly and has many historic castles, which I visit frequently, so I knew that I would manage this, but the extra care taken by Antonino was hugely appreciated. The food and wine was incredible, the views took my breath away, and I am very grateful to Antonino for recommending the pecorino gelato, it was delicious!

I use a mobility aid,...

I use a mobility aid, although I am relatively mobile being from a very hilly area with many historic properties and castles, so I'm used to navigating my way around places that aren't very accessible. However, I found this excursion to be very accessible for me! Our expert guide around Pompeii set a comfortable pace, and was mindful to point out any unexpected steps or particularly uneven terrain. He was also full of knowledge and interesting facts. Our guide for the day, Natascia was particularly brilliant. It is very evident that she used to be a teacher, all information and directions were delivered in a clear and concise manner, she made sure we all had access to her personal telephone number in case we got lost or needed anything, and she was incredibly warm and funny. She was also mindful of my mobility challenges, which was hugely appreciated. Natascia is an incredible font of knowledge, and as an added bonus she had lots of interesting facts about the cultures and history of the region as well as Italy as a whole, and I ended the tour very satisfied with the experience she provided.

Our excursion to the...

Our excursion to the Vatican was wonderful. There were any other groups there and it got a little congested, but our guide would find an open space and hurry us to it. She was great. Every excursion we book through Viator during our European vacation was excellent. We even booked a couple for the next day and a representative was easy to find with our tickets and escorted us to the skip the line entrance. We never had to stand in a long line. Some were with a guide and for others we were on our own. We will definitely continue to use Viator for any of our vacations.

A history lesson in real life

First, let me say that it was very easy to find our group. They gave us perfect instructions and a person was waiting there with a placard, so we were sure to be in the right place. So important. Our Guide, and I’m not 100% sure of her name. It might have been Sylvia, was excellent. Lovely woman with glasses. I hope that explains her. She first took us to the forum and explained everything about what went on there and gave us incredible insight into the Roman political life, and the lives of the people who lived there. She had books with pictures of what the ruine looked like originally so that we could see exactly what the remains represented. She told us all about their lives as though she had been there. She was so incredibly familiar with the material. She had a great sense of humor, too, and answered all questions thoroughly. We did a lot of walking, and this woman had inexhaustible energy! She literally explained things about the trees and the landscape. It was amazing. We went to the Colosseum and got right in, and she explained what the lives of the gladiators were like. Where the spectators sat, what the wives of the Senate did with the gladiators, which was to have coffee, of course. She dispelled many of the myths that we saw in movies. It was a hot day and she kept the tour moving perfectly. It was really one of the highlights of our trip to Rome and one that we will not forget. Well worth the money if you want to experience Roman political life, and the history of Rome.

There are no words to describe the massiveness and history of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palantine Hill. Our tour guide, Paola, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and articulate. Her command of the history of these ruins was quite impressive. A beautiful afternoon and a highly recommended experience.

A Long, Beautiful Day of Adventure

This tour is not for the faint of heart but, if you’re up for a walking adventure, don’t hesitate to give it a try. The ruins of Pompeii are incredibly historic, the Amalfi Coast and Positano are absolutely stunning. Please note that this tour was all day, requiring a great deal of uphill walking on uneven surfaces in extreme heat. Wait until mid October when the crowds and temperatures are more tolerable. Shout outs to Marisa and Dan (tour guide and driver) as well as Bernadetta, our private guide in Pompeii. If you’re up for a long day adventure, don’t miss this tour.

Surreal and Adventurous!

Surreal experience traveling to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The hike up was more challenging than I had imaged but very much worth it! The restaurant we had lunch had the best view and pizza, and we were provided a bonus stop at the end! Kiara was a fun, informative guide and our driver Romil was top notch! I’d trust him to drive me anywhere after seeing how skilled he was maneuvering the bus around the switchbacks! Grazie!

If you like Roman...

If you like Roman history, you can't get much more Roman than this. The audioguide provided quite a lot of good context for the stuff you see across the three sites that you wouldn't normally get from the placards on site, just be sure to bring your headphones/earbuds of course. Be prepared to do a lot of hiking across the Palatine Hill and bring a water bottle, but overall good value for money I'd say

Villa d’Este is awe-inspiring

Fantastic insight into Roman society 2000 years ago at Hadrian’s Villa (palace) and 1800’s at Villa d'Este, which has been on my bucket list since I learned about Italian landscape design at university. Totally worth the visit despite the punishing heat in August. The hydrological engineering & use of what starts as a tiny water source into multiple fountains & sculptures without use of pumps or electricity is awe-inspiring & spectacular. Definitely a highlight of my trip.

Just Amazing

Silvia was the name of the tour guide and she was wonderful ., She was very kind and attentive and she made sure anyone who needed a taxi got one when we arrived in florence to the restaurants location and she did a good head count before leaving to the next stop each time we would board again the bus and her spanish was very good because she studied in Spain and then lived there from age 18-27 she had told me herself this when i spoke with her one on one while walking towards the location of the historic sites and her english was very clear as well . The tour was impeccable and an experience i will hopefully always remember . I would definitely use this tour company again if i am able to return to rome in the future .
