Itinerary

Rise early to meet your guide near the Vatican Museums at a time when other travelers might still be in bed. Without the crowds that emerge later in the day, you’ll step into the Cortile della Pigna for an American-style breakfast, complete with a Vatican view.

Regroup with your guide at the agreed place and time for your Vatican Museums tour. The miles of galleries contain vast amounts of antiquities and artwork amassed by the popes; to see it all would be impossible, but your guide knows the highlights, and you’ll go straight to them.

Visit the Gallery of the Maps, and then admire the Sistine Chapel with its Michelangelo frescoes that adorn the ceiling and back wall. After a skip-the-line tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, you can stay inside the lavish church, or go to the finish point in St. Peter’s Square to hear about Bernini and the square’s colonnades that he created.

Sylvia was a wonderful guide. She was so knowledgeable! My only suggestion is to try and get this tour before 8am since the museum is not yet open and you can avoid the crowds.

Highly recommended tour

When we arrived at the Vatican City and saw the enormous queues, we knew we'd done the right thing by booking an organised tour! Fortunately, our guide Francesco ensured a quick and smooth entrance for us and the others in our group. We enjoyed a very pleasant breakfast in the courtyard, followed by a well-paced and informative tour through the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's Basilica. If you would prefer to linger and savour every single fresco and piece of art, then this kind of tour probably isn't for you, but we felt that we saw enough of significance in the time we had available (and we appreciated being able to remain and continue taking in St Peter's Basilica once the official tour had ended). Without Francesco and his expert guiding, I feel it may have been a little overwhelming trying to negotiate the many rooms and halls (and the sheer number of visitors) by ourselves, so we were very thankful for him!

Excellent tour with a knowledgeable guide.

Patti_D, Mar 2026
Amazing, well guided tour and the breakfast was a good start to the experience. Francesco was a knowledgeable guide and did well informing us along the way.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Do NOT Attempt the Vatican Without This Tour

Marlene_M, Feb 2026
This tour was absolutely exceptional — and worth every penny. When we arrived at the Vatican and saw thousands of people waiting in line, I immediately thought, “This is not for me.” The crowds were overwhelming. But our guide, Sarah, calmly reassured us — and she was right. Within minutes, we were seamlessly escorted through with express access, moving efficiently through every museum in the Vatican. At each point, the process was smooth, organized, and impressively expedited despite the massive crowds. Sarah was fantastic — knowledgeable, engaging, and confident. She navigated the Vatican with expertise and kept the group moving comfortably without ever feeling rushed. The breakfast experience was such a unique and elevated touch. Sitting inside the Vatican for a generous, delicious breakfast — rather than outside in crowded cafés — made the entire morning feel exclusive and special. The selection was bountiful and satisfying, and the setting made it unforgettable. If you are even considering visiting the Vatican, do not attempt it on your own. Book this tour. The express entry alone is invaluable, and the guided experience elevates everything. Highly, highly recommend.

A great way to get an in depth experience of the Vatican. You get to use special areas only accessible to the group. My tour guide was great as well.

Good but priority does not mean skip the line

Christopher_B, Jan 2026
Breakfast was great. Tour was good. Biggest negative was that it says priority entrance to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica but you have to wait in the standard line to the Basilica which took 30 minutes. I would say choose a 3 hour minute skip-the-line and tour instead as I have now done both.

Great tour! Wonderful tour guide!

Marian_M, Jan 2026
Great tour! It was a wonderful way to get into the Vatican and understand the history. Our tour guide, Eleanora was the best! Not only did she help us understand Michelangelo and his era, she taught us details to look for and helped us navigate the maze of people. I had been to the Vatican in 2017 and was happy to have such a knowledgeable tour guide this time. The breakfast was good and a perfect way to regroup before the tour of the galleries and the hike into the Sistine Chapel. Great combo and experience. I recommend it.

This is the only way to visit the Vatican! Bypassed the crowds. Our tour guide Elanora was great and very friendly and knowledgeable.

Wonderful and informative guide!

Tonya_B, Dec 2025
This was a great tour. Our guide was AMAZING and very informative. The breakfast was a large cost of the experience though and there were pigeons flying over our plates, landing on the tables and plates. It was hard to enjoy that part of the tour.

Our tour guide Cosimo was amazing. Funny and knowledgeable. We had a great experience. A little sad our breakfast portion got cancelled last minute without any price adjustment but overall the staff was knowledgeable and really made the experience great.

Great Tour, Wonderful Guide, Skip Breakfast

John_F, Nov 2025
The guide we had was A+. She knew her stuff. Breakfast was good but is outside so it was cold, but expected since it was November. The pigeons sucked. They were all up on the tables eating your food if you weren't alert. I'd recommend getting breakfast prior. We met up at 8:20. Did all the security checkpoints and got to breakfast at about 8:55. Ate until 9:30. Then started the tour. You do avoid lines getting in the vatican which was cool. There are special accesses the tours get so it's less crowded. Sistine chapel wasnt too crowded. Still space to breathe. No one was shoulder to shoulder. Would definitely recommend tour, but skip the breakfast.

Christina_K, Oct 2025
Was hoping that by doing breakfast at the Vatican we would miss the crowds…unfortunately not the case! Still crowded and we couldn’t go in St. Peter’s basilica due to a papal mass. Not viator’s fault but the crowds to get in once the basilica opened were insane!!! Never did get inside. Our guide though was fabulous!!

Not Worth the Price!!

Mary_S, Oct 2025
Ridiculous price for average, at best, breakfast, which was not handled as billed. Couldn't even get a second cup of coffee. Breakfast was delayed by at least an hour. The Vatican had electronic ticket issues and the perks of "leisurely breakfast" and non crowded tour were false. This was the biggest disappointment of my trip to Rome. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Tour guide was not helpful or interesting.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hi Mary, We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. We always strive to provide a seamless and enjoyable tour. Unfortunately, electronic ticket issues at the Vatican were beyond our control, but we understand how frustrating delays can be. Regarding breakfast and service, we sincerely apologize if it didn’t reflect the high standard and your comments have been shared with the Museums so we can address the issues you mentioned with them.

Jeffrey_M, Oct 2025
The tour company can’t be blamed for how busy the Vatican was for our tour, however our guide seemed fairly oblivious as to where her group was. The journey started with half of our group getting stuck on one side of the street while she kept walking away with the other half. It took one person to run after her when we finally made it across so she could let us catch up. This was a continuous theme for the tour. Often, she would get so far ahead of us, we could no longer hear her in our earpieces. That aside, the Vatican is an amazing place and I would love to go back sometime at a slightly slower pace.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hello Jeffrey_M, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback, and for joining our tour. We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and the difficulties you encountered keeping up with your guide. This is certainly not the level of care and coordination we aim to provide. We sincerely apologize for any stress or frustration this may have caused during your visit. Please rest assured that we will follow up with the guide involved to ensure that all guests are properly attended to and that the pace of the tour remains comfortable for everyone. We truly appreciate your kind understanding and are very glad to hear you still enjoyed the beauty of the Vatican. We hope you’ll give us another opportunity in the future to provide you with a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

Lots of people, must stay with your group.

Gerald_B, Oct 2025
Tour guide was top notch. Very informative and did a great job keeping up with our group. Sistine chapel was beautiful, but crowded and when leaving the chapel it was confusing to those on which direction to go. If you go left, it takes you away from basicilca and you go right it directs you to bascilica and square. So be careful. STAY with your group as much as possible. Food was good for the breakfast. Must see grotto with popes tombs.

Maryann_S, Oct 2025
My family and I booked a number of tours via Viator for our recent European travel and the majority were fantastic. Unfortunately this tour did not match the pitch. The tour was not conducted prior to general public opening hours and commenced 40 minutes past our starting time. As such the "VIP" tour was subject to large crowds which we felt like sardines squished in a can trying to move through the Vatican. The crows were so large a number of sections were closed due to being overrun. We booked the tour assuming as was advertised that we would get in prior to the general public, which was not the case. Our breakfast was also cut short having just 20 our of the 40 minutes allocated. Our tour guide was not knowledgeable having misidentified the majority of statues or artworks in the gallery. For example the guide would point at a statue and say it was person A, yet the plaque would say it was person D. The tour guide also spent most of the time talking about how statues looked like her favorite movie actors, talked about random films, or their travel plans. No history from the tour guide was shared. For example the entire commentary while walking through the galleries was "as you can see they have pots of many colors", "those are tapestries with maps". No, explanation or interesting stories about the Vatican, it's history, stories on works of art was missing completely. A few members of our group decided to leave early and a few others spent the tour without their earphones in, deciding to read the plaques provided by the gallery instead. The tour was also ended before we entered the Sistine Chapel. No direction was provided of where we were to go after. We didn't see St Peter's Square despite St Peter's Basilica being closed. A tour we were really looking forward to was pretty disappointing. Would not recommend.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hello Maryann_S, Thank you so much for booking your tour with us and for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, especially given how much you were looking forward to this visit. Please accept our deepest apologies for the delays, the overcrowding, and particularly for the disappointment caused by the guiding experience. What you described is far from the standard of service we strive to provide. We will be following up internally with the guide and operations team to ensure this situation is reviewed thoroughly and addressed appropriately. Unfortunately, crowd levels and certain access restrictions within the Vatican can change unexpectedly and are beyond our control. However, the issues regarding timing, commentary, and the quality of the information

Great time at the Vatican

The breakfast at the vatican was good.Definitely.Recommend doing this with your family or friends on our particular day. They had closed saint peter's square. So we had to find our own way over there. After the tour was completed and waded until after the mass that was going on finished up once done.We were able to enter the basilica and the square. No problem

Overall we had a great time. Our guide was very friendly and incredibly informative. It is a very fast paced tour so you will mainly just get an overview and only be able to see a lot of things very quickly so if you want a more leisurely pace I would recommend choosing a different option.

Long , but tour moved quickly and was very informative. Remind people again about Pieta in the Basiica. It was mentioned at end in mass of people and I know it was my fault I didn’t listen/hear.

Humor and history blended into a delightful morning with Cosmo. The Sistine chapel is stunning! Has opened the door for more curiosity!

More museums than religion

David_K, Sep 2025
Our guide was wonderful and very educated on the history of the Vatican and the artwork found there. However, this tour was more focused on the museums in the Vatican than on the Vatican itself - no St. Peter’s Square for example. But it was very interesting and educational, and Sabrina, our guide, was wonderful.
