Itinerary
Rise early to meet your guide near the Vatican Museums at a time when other travelers might still be in bed. Without the crowds that emerge later in the day, you’ll step into the Cortile della Pigna for an American-style breakfast, complete with a Vatican view.
Regroup with your guide at the agreed place and time for your Vatican Museums tour. The miles of galleries contain vast amounts of antiquities and artwork amassed by the popes; to see it all would be impossible, but your guide knows the highlights, and you’ll go straight to them.
Visit the Gallery of the Maps, and then admire the Sistine Chapel with its Michelangelo frescoes that adorn the ceiling and back wall. After a skip-the-line tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, you can stay inside the lavish church, or go to the finish point in St. Peter’s Square to hear about Bernini and the square’s colonnades that he created.

This is NOT a fast track entry like Viator advertises. Our 8 am time did NOT give us an advantage. Hundreds to maybe thousands of people were let in at the same time. It did NOT allow us to explore the Vatican before the general public. We were herded like cattle in very large crowds and our guide made it worse. Instead of just taking us through the tour, she stopped and went through flip charts in the hot sun. From our 8 am arrival we finally saw the Sistine Chapel at 11:15am. ..more than 3 hours!!! We didn’t have enough time in the chapel or St Peter’s Basilica (though they were both very beautiful).

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're pleased to hear you found the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica beautiful. We understand your disappointment regarding the crowds; however, visitor volumes at the Vatican are managed by the venue and can be high even during early entry times. We appreciate your comments about the guide and pacing, and we will share them with our local team for review.

Great tour our guide was exceptional even with the challenge of the Vatican staffing being under he stepped into the breach and delivered. He went over and above on our tour and even gave up some of his own time to help us out. Out of 10 we give him 20

It seemed really disorganized trying to get into the Vatican from our tour guide. Once inside, we eventually made our way to breakfast. But it took a good 30-45 mins from the start of where we met. The breakfast was good overall. We had about 30 mins to eat. Then we made our way towards the museum rooms. It was very difficult to understand our tour guide due to his accent and we missed all the highlights due to that barrier. We seemed to have spent too much time walking thru the museums which normally wouldn’t be a problem if we could understand the content. Also, what made it difficult is their listening devices were terrible. It’s not a full headset style. It’s one earphone that hangs off your ear. And mine kept falling off. We eventually made our way to the Sistine Chapel. And it was magnificent. We spent about 30 mins inside. Then met up with our tour guide at the exit making our way over to St Peter’s Basilica. When we got there, it seemed like we missed our appointment time and the tour guide had to go all the way back to wherever he went to get our time updated so that we could enter. When we finally got inside, we still could not understand the dialogue from the guide. So several of us did our own thing walking about and just reading the signs to get our own understanding of what we were seeing. I think overall, if we had a tour guide that we could understand, the experience would have been a lot different.

Hi Monica,
Thank you for your detailed feedback.
We're sorry to hear that the delays, difficulty understanding the guide, and issues with the audio equipment affected your experience.
While Vatican entry procedures can sometimes cause unexpected delays, we understand how frustrating this must have been. We're glad you enjoyed the breakfast and the Sistine Chapel, but we regret that the tour didn't meet your expectations overall.
Your comments have been shared with our team as we continue to improve our tours. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again for a much better experience.

Great experience. Christian was very knowledgeable of all areas toured. The Sistine chapel and basilica de San Pietro were breathtaking. Highly recommend visiting burials grotto’s after the tour finishes

Fantastic guide Lorenzo on June 15, 2026. Wonderful tour. Crazy crowds getting in but the guided tours have a dedicated entrance making it manageable. The food was meh but can’t control that it’s what the Vatican cafe serves.
Larry_G, Jun 2026
It was amazing! Christian, our guide, was so passionate about the topic. I would book again! Just perfect!

We opted for this experience which cost our family of 7 nearly $1,000.00 when we missed the dates to reserve tickets directly from the Vatican and thought that on a once in a lifetime experience to Italy we may as well also have a once in a lifetime Vatican experience, embracing a VIP tour that was advertised as semi-private and early access.
When we arrived we were grouped around roughly 20 other large groups and then ushered towards a long line to enter the Vatican museum around 8:00 AM. We waited in line for aprox. 15 minutes before entering security and the Vatican museum area. Headsets were given to the adults, but not to our children so we shared. We knew at this point it may not have been the experience we anticipated but we were still eager to experience the Vatican in a unique way. Our tour guide even mentioned he was surprised how quickly we got in as sometimes it can take him an hour, which showed us this was not a unique experience facing the large crowds at this time.
Once we made it through security and into the Vatican Museum area, the crowds were shoulder to shoulder and we had to search out our tour guides flag and fight the masses of people just to stay near. We started our morning with a breakfast, which was good and we were the only group in the restaurant area which was nice and seemed to be a good insight into how this may actually turn out to be a VIP experience, but that is where the exclusivity ended. We had a short time for breakfast and bathroom breaks, about 35 minutes for both, which felt rushed. It appeared anyone could walk up and also eat at this location but it was not busy as I had assumed people would rather spend time exploring the Vatican, as opposed to using valuable time to eat.
After breakfast we met outside the cafe. We learned a bit about the art in the Sistine Chapel prior to making our way into the interior of the Vatican Museum. Once in the Museum we were so compressed by the crowds you could not see nearly anything, it was difficult to walk for our elderly parents and keeping an eye on our young children, and we were ushered through about 4 galleries as our guide discussed a few items in each. We had booked this partially hoping the early entry and 'VIP' factor would lessen crowds a bit and make ti more enjoyable and accessible for our elders parents and young children. Unfortunately, our elderly parents struggled with the crowds, stairs and ensuring they were not tripping on others and keeping up with the fast paced guide and our children were unable to see anything or hear as they were not tall enough to see over crowds, get to the front of exhibits, and did not have an ear piece. I didn't expect to see the entire museum but only seeing a few galleries seemed very minimal and I would have liked to see more. I had also assumed that for an early morning tour that was marketed as VIP and prior to most people getting in, that there wouldn't be such large crowds. We truly could not see anything and it would have been no different or less crowded had you done it alone, in fact, you probably could have seen more better, as you could have maneuvered crowds and gone to less crowded galleries.
Our tour guide then took us into the Sistine Chapel for 15 minutes, which included time to take a bathroom break. After fighting crowds and the bathroom line we got about 5 minutes to view the Chapel before moving on with the guide. The chapel was so crowded you basically found a spot, looked up and couldn't move. Understandable for such a fascinating and popular landmark, but not what was expected for such an expensive tour.
After the Sistine Chapel our tour guide brought us into St. Peter's where our tour ended. He collected ear pieces and his tip and left us to explore the Basilica on our own. We walked around, viewed the different areas and went down to the tomb area. It would have been nice to have some audio tour guidance to these parts as there is so much history.
Overall the tour was disappointing for the price and description given. While we were glad to get the opportunity to enter the Vatican, we could have done this on our own or through a less expensive option. The only benefit we felt was that we missed the reservation timeline for reserved entry on our own, so we got to wait in a 15 minute entry line as opposed to the several hour line for those without reserved entry (available 60 days prior directly from the Vatican).
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Dear Alexis_J,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet the expectations you had for your family's visit to the Vatican.
We understand that you were hoping for a much more exclusive and less crowded experience. Our early access tour is designed to provide entry before the general opening hours, allowing guests to enter the Vatican Museums ahead of the regular public. However, this privilege is shared by all official early access groups, and visitor numbers inside the Vatican are managed by the Vatican itself. Unfortunately, crowd levels within the museums and the Sistine Chapel are beyond our control, even during the early morning.
Regarding the "semi-private" experience, this refers to the limited size of the guided group compared with standard large-group tours, rather than private or exclusive access to the museums or exhibits. The itinerary also follows a carefully planned route to ensure guests see the highlights within the time allotted, as it is simply not possible to cover the entirety of the Vatican Museums during a guided visit.
We are pleased that you enjoyed the breakfast and that reserved entry helped you avoid the significantly longer queues faced by visitors without timed tickets. At the same time, we regret that the pace and the crowds made the experience challenging for your elderly parents and young children, and that it did not provide the memorable VIP experience you had envisioned.
We sincerely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us ensure that our tour descriptions accurately set expectations for future guests.

The experience was wonderful. The details were specific without being overwhelming and made the tour an amazing history lesson. The guide was very knowledgeable about the location.

This tour was absolutely phenomenal! Alisandre was our tour guide and she was a treasure trove of information. She was kind and took us on a well-paced tour through the Vatican museums. Although you are not allowed to stop in the museums, we kept moving but it was at a very leisurely pace and we didn't feel rushed. The breakfast was excellent and it was nice to enjoy the morning atmosphere in one of the Vatican's courtyards. St. Peter's Basilica was on my bucket list and I cried, sobbing, when I saw how beautiful it was in person. We also saw the Hall of Maps, the Hall of Tapestries, the Sistine Chapel, and many other galleries. It is imperative that you get tickets for a tour like this before you go. We were lucky enough to go through a side entrance and enter the Vatican within 20-30 mins. The main queue to get tickets was between 3-4 hours long! This tour was very well done and was very enjoyable! Worth every penny!

Excellent tour & breakfast in museum cafe get their an 3/4 hour early as is very busy location. Can go grab a coffee and come back once located tour host.

Christian is the best tour guide I’ve ever had anywhere in Italy. He was so insightful, caring, and went above and beyond to take care of us when there were delays. The breakfast was amazing, and this was the best tour I’ve done in Vatican City yet, i will do this tour again for sure, and I hope I get Christian again for it because he is the absolute best.
Alisa_D, May 2026
Our guide was wonderful in trying to navigate the tour. Unfortunately, in the allotted time at the café, we never received our breakfast. We understand that this was in no way a reflection on him, however it was disappointing for the overall experience.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Alisa_D,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are glad to hear that your guide was wonderful and did his best to navigate the tour for you. However, we deeply apologize that you did not receive your breakfast. We understand how disappointing this was and that it impacted your overall experience..

Silva shared her extensive knowledge of art history to make this a truly memorable outing. Yes, the spaces are beautiful, but getting to hear the stories behind the spaces and sculptures add so much value to this tour.
Julie_P, May 2026
Guided tour through the Vatican with breakfast in the Vatican courtyard was well worth the money! I can’t imagine trying to do the Vatican on your own for the first time. Our guide was very knowledgeable and kept the pace at a manageable speed for a group with a variety of abilities. Breakfast was delicious. Got to see several collections of the Vatican Museum and through the hall of maps. As with any guided tour you never have enough time to see everything but the Vatican is so crowded I don’t think you’d manage well without a guide. We got to see the Sistine Chapel and take a shortcut to St Peter’s Basilica which saved time and steps. Guide pointed out restrooms when needed. Great tour would highly recommend. Not sure breakfast is a mandatory addition but it was good!
Donna_P, May 2026
Be prepared for crowds and lots of walking.
Instead of taking pictures enjoy the experience of being there and the magnificent beauty of the Vatican. Our guide Christian was a fountain of knowledge and very kind.
Ian_J, May 2026
There are lots of steps and if you choose to use a wheelchair the tour group can’t cater for you because you need to travel a different route to the main group. Which is a challenge given the volume of people accessing the site. My wife chose not to take the tour because of this.
How ever the art, architecture and history are truly amazing.
PAMELA_S, May 2026
Excellent guide. Awe inspiring art and religious artifacts. Huge breakfast, very good. Highly recommend.
Lorne_W, May 2026
Our guide Paula was very knowledgeable and interacted with all in the group and seemed to remember who was missing
Philip_S, May 2026
Using a small private tour like this makes the experience so much more enjoyable. The Vatican is always very crowded, but Lorenzo managed our small group through the crowds and was able to give us many insights and highlights.
Lisa_N, May 2026
The Vatican was so crowded! I was so happy we had this tour planned. Our guide, Silvia, was lovely and so knowledgeable. She was extremely organized and was so helpful! The breakfast was great and such a treat to experience in the setting. The tour took us through the museums, through the Sistine chapel, and then she left us inside St Peter’s basilica with instructions of how to see the crypt, access the dome, and head out to the plaza. When we came out, the line was wrapped around the plaza. We paid the additional to climb up into the dome, which provided spectacular 360 views of the city! If you are claustrophobic or fear heights, this may be one to miss as it gets tight. Overall, the tour exceeded our expectations.
Rebecca_M, Apr 2026
What a lovely experience with so many beautiful architecture pieces. The breakfast was exceptional and Christian made the experience so educational. Christian was so passionate about the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica. He wanted to make sure we all were taken care of.
Maureen_R, Apr 2026
Excellent tour, started with a delicious breakfast in a courtyard. Iliria, our tour guide was great! Knowledgeable, funny, and engaging with the small group.
FYI- Just know where you must meet- so many people go to the lines- read the directions for meeting points!!!!
GAVIN_H, Apr 2026
We both really enjoyed this tour, it was the highlight of our trip! The meeting point was really easy to find, and our tour guide, Lorenzo, was easy to spot. The breakfast was a great way to start the tour, before Lorenzo really brought the architecture, artwork, and sculpture to life with his elegant storytelling and expert knowledge.
Lynda_R, Apr 2026
Fantastic and well organized tour. Breakfast was yummy and felt a bit special. My guide Sara was great, lots of information, kept the group together and I never felt rushed or bored! Highly recommend:)
Tara_A, Mar 2026
This was a great tour! The breakfast was delicious and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. It was great to no have to wait in the lines that wrapped around the buildings!
audesign4u, Mar 2026
Sylvia was a wonderful guide. She was so knowledgeable! My only suggestion is to try and get this tour before 8am since the museum is not yet open and you can avoid the crowds.
Karen_L, Mar 2026
Paola was amazing. Very knowledgeable and funny. Really enjoyed the tour. We started at 8:30 and I would recommend going earlier if possible. It was still very crowded even at that hour.
Maryanne_Y, Mar 2026
It was a wonderful tour with an extremely knowledgeable guide- Oksana. She brought everything to life and shared all sorts of important insights about art, history and architecture. And she was very personable.
Michael_M, Mar 2026
When we arrived at the Vatican City and saw the enormous queues, we knew we'd done the right thing by booking an organised tour! Fortunately, our guide Francesco ensured a quick and smooth entrance for us and the others in our group. We enjoyed a very pleasant breakfast in the courtyard, followed by a well-paced and informative tour through the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's Basilica. If you would prefer to linger and savour every single fresco and piece of art, then this kind of tour probably isn't for you, but we felt that we saw enough of significance in the time we had available (and we appreciated being able to remain and continue taking in St Peter's Basilica once the official tour had ended). Without Francesco and his expert guiding, I feel it may have been a little overwhelming trying to negotiate the many rooms and halls (and the sheer number of visitors) by ourselves, so we were very thankful for him!
Patti_D, Mar 2026
Amazing, well guided tour and the breakfast was a good start to the experience. Francesco was a knowledgeable guide and did well informing us along the way.
