Great tour

caroleperry, Mar 2026
A wonderful tour and so worth having a knowledgeable guide like Giuseppe take us to both of these incredble locations.

Absolutely stunning!

Charles_M, Dec 2025
Truly unique places away from the hustle and bustle of Roma. Must see! You won't be disappointed! And it's only 30 minutes outside the city. Guide, as usual, was fantastic!!!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you! We’re delighted you enjoyed the Tivoli Full Day Trip from Rome: Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este. It’s wonderful to hear you appreciated these unique places just outside Rome, and we’re glad your guide made the experience even more fantastic!

Convenient way to see Hadrian’s Villa

Angela_W, Dec 2025
A convenient way to see Hadrian’s Villa from Rome. It was good to have a knowledgeable and friendly guide but it would have been nice to have just a little bit more time at Hadrian’s (there is so much to see!). The visit to Tivoli was nice - we would have not seen Villa D’Este if not for the tour. The fresco rooms of the villa were just stunning but unfortunately we were rushed through them to get out to see/hear the organ fountain. It would have made more sense to have less time for lunch in Tivoli and to have started the walk through of Villa D’Este earlier. Small group of 15 was good.

Beautiful sites

Two beautiful gardens and buildings! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave is wonderful insight into how Romans lived throughout the centuries. FYI- a lot of walking, nice pace, and alot of stairs up and down.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Lovely day at Tivoli

Audrey_B, Sep 2025
There is a lot of walking and some stairs and hills to climb. May not be good for those that have mobility issues Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable but sometimes hard to understand

Great tour of very worthwhile sites. Don't book the lunch.

David_M, Aug 2025
5 stars for the guide and the organization of the tour. However, do NOT book the lunch. Others must have seen this in reviews, so just four of us were led like lambs to our fate. A restaurant that has no other customers at lunchtime is a bad sign. And then came the carafe of warm white wine with small flies floating in the bottom. When I pointed this out with a laugh, suddenly the owner had no English and poor eyesight. The red was ok. Micro portions of uninspired fare. A smiling offer of espresso, without mentioning it would cost more, but we had been warned of that. I've traveled in Asia where food is always included and is fine, so I naively clicked on the lunch option. Now I realize all the incentives are for a disreputable operator to take your money and give substandard fare. Anyways, it was memorable. Also, don't get to the meeting point early. It's a barren metro station by a military base in a sketchy neighborhood east of Termini. I can see it's practical for leaving the city to the east, though.

Recommended for efficient and convenient way to see both villas at Tivoli

Una_M, Jul 2025
A good opportunity to see both villas. Local guide was knowledgeable and fun. Convenient booking arrangements and pick up. Maybe a little information on Tivoli town (eg a page with map and key sights marked) for those not availing of lunch as we had about 1.5 hours here to explore. Not a big deal as I just used google maps and found my own way around- but just a minor improvement would be a map and key information on it. Many thanks to our guide and drivers.

These two sites are amazing but very different. Learned a great deal about the Romans and how they were influenced by the Greeks in their building and ingenuity. The Villa D'Este was a former convent and has the best fountains and gardens I have ever seen. Not to be missed. This day tour was exceptional. Had a great guide.

Great experience

Elaine_S, Feb 2025
The tour was excellent. We had thought about doing it on our own and from what I read it was very difficult to do both places on your own so we opted for the Viator, which was very convenient. Only issue was that there were two rotations listed on the initial ticket to meet at.- Castro Pretorio and Ponte Mammolo. We opted for Castro Pretorio but when we exited the subway, there were three exits. So we stood by the one that had the large parking garage, which seemed to be the one that most people stood by. We found the Director and boarded the van. Once we get to Hadrian’s Villa, the tour guide met us there her name was Alicia She was phenomenal! The time we spent in the town of Tivoli-which was good however -we had lunch on our own at noon, but we did not realize that all the shops closed at 1 o’clock and reopen at 4:30 pm. Something to keep in mind if you want to shop in the town Tivoli! Otherwise great tour!

Lovely day out from Rome.

Hadrian's villa and Villa de Este with its beautiful gardens and waterfalls was devine. The Tivoli gelato and pizza were excellent. Our guide was upbeat and mindful of the needs of his group. He stopped in the shade for discussions which made a difference in the heat.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

We are thrilled to hear that you found the gardens and waterfalls to be divine, and that you enjoyed the gelato and pizza in Tivoli. We greatly appreciate your kind words about your guide. It is heartening to know that he was attentive to the needs of the group and made thoughtful accommodations to ensure a comfortable experience in the heat. Thank you once again for your review. Dear Client, We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your Tivoli Trip. We hope to host you again next time!

Rushed, tour guide not very good, and bad lunch.

PaulDaniel_B, Jun 2024
I have done many tours with Viator that I have really enjoyed. This is the first one that I have to give a qualified recommendation to. If there were an easy way to get to Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este from Rome without a tour, I would prefer them. I understand that both destinations are a lot to cover in a day, but it all felt a bit rushed. I feel like we didn't see as much as we could at Hadrian's Villa, and would have liked more time at Villa d'Este. I talked to fellow tour group members, and opinions were mixed. Some thought it was just right, but a lot felt like they wanted more time at each location. Our tour guide kept telling us to walk carefully on the uneven surfaces, but then moved at a pace that few of us could keep up with. She also told us everything at Hadrian's Villa was: "now here is a special building..." and "up next I will take you to a special building." At Villa d'Este, it was "now I will show you a special surprise.." and "next I will take you to a special surprise." I don't think the word "special" means what she thinks it means. The lunch provided, if you choose that option, at a restaurant, was not good. I would skip that option and find a better restaurant on my own. The restaurant was filled with tour groups, which is often a bad sign. Sorry Viator, but you can do better on this one.

Dear Client, Thank you for your feedback on the Tivoli tour. We appreciate your insights and will take them into consideration as we strive to provide a better experience. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you again in the future.

Very interesting and wonderful guide. Lunch was a little disappointing.. not much more to add. Might have liked more information about Hadrian the man.

Response from Host, Aug 2024

Dear Client, Thank you for your nice review. We apologize as the lunch was not up to your standards. We hope to host you again in the future!

Canceled us the day before due to overbooking

mareplus3, Oct 2023
Was messaged the day before that our reservation was canceled due to overbooking. They asked if we could come another day, I said no and please refund credit card. Suddenly, we could keep our booking, but messages were confusing and we were trying to figure out what to do. I said ok, but the group was upset and feeling unwelcome, so I later canceled. They finally wrote back later the next day, long after the tour started, to say I would not be refunded. A huge mess that they caused and could've been avoided if they had first ASKED if we could change our tour date instead of going straight to telling us our tour was canceled and then changing their minds when I wanted my money back. Incredibly unprofessional and I will be contacting my bank when I return home.

Be prepared to keep moving

Therese_E, Oct 2023
We would never have done this trip under our own steam and so were delighted to share time with a rather large group. However, the guide was very informative and we covered a lot in a short time. Perhaps that was one of the downsides. There was a definite feeling of being rushed through both Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este. We would have like some additional free time to explore. Both are worth a visit. We were awestruck by both even though we have previously visited Pompeii and Forum. Bus was comfortable, visit to Tivoli for lunch good. Summing up, we we happy and tired at the end of the day. Warning: there is plenty of walking and steps to navigate. There is mobility support at Hadrian’s Villa and a lift at Villa D’este.

A great tour with a knowledgeable guide

Caroline_B, Aug 2023
Giuseppe was a lovely guide. We were lucky there weren't many people at Hadrian's Villa, so we got to appreciate that expansive area what felt like to ourselves. Giuseppe's magic book helped visualise how the Villa looked in the past. Tivoli is a beautiful town and we had a wonderful lunch (not with the tour). Villa d'Este is a beautiful mansion and the gardens and fountains are just outstanding. It was a great contrast to see how cool the gardens were compared to when we were at the Villa. A great tour with a knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend this day trip.

Great day trip from Rome to Tivoli villas

Karen D, Mar 2018
Our guide, Giuseppe, was wonderful. He lives in Tivoli, as has his family for the last 500 years, so he was extremely knowledgeable about the area as well as the two places we visited, Hadrians Villa and Villa dEste. Although it was a long day 7 hours it went very quickly and I actually would have liked a little more time at the two places. Giuseppe also recommended a restaurant for lunch which was very good. One note, and this is indicated in the description, if you have mobility issues, believe them when they say there is a lot of walking and much of it is up and down. There were several people in the tour group who had a difficult time with the walking although they all made it through. I would highly recommend this tour when youre tired of the frenetic pace of Rome and want a day trip outside the city.

Interesting but fast

Renee_D, Oct 2025
Two nice visits but a little quick to Villa Adriana , the interesting guide but too fast for our taste
