This is a great day trip from Rome. We went in March the weather is varied throughout the day. Recommend a small umbrella and wearing shoes you can comfortably walk in. We did about 10,000 steps on this day trip. The views are beautiful and the towns are charming. Great photo ops and the towns were not as crowded when we went.

Valentina, our guide, was wonderful. She is a wonderful storyteller. Shared so much information in such an easily relatable way. She made the tour. Plus the wonderful area , food and wine. Highly recommend this tour. Valentine, our guide, and Teo, our driver, were the best. A must take tour

Itinerary

After a visit to Tempio di San Biagio, a Renaissance church backed by Val d’Orcia’s undulating hills, it’s time for lunch. Savor a 3-course meal of local fare, and sample the region’s wine including the Brunello di Montalcino.

In the afternoon, enjoy free time in Pienza. Its UNESCO-listed historic center was realized in Renaissance times by Pope Pius II, and it remains as impressive today as it was in pontiff’s days. Hear tips for architecture to see or shops to browse, and scout out Pienza’s prized pecorino cheese.

Regroup at the agreed time, and return to Rome by coach.

We would highly recommend this trip! Our guide Ana and driver Rommel were fabulous! Ana was informative and entertaining! She shared interesting facts about the region, food, and wine. We stopped at delightful little towns, a beautiful winery and interesting churches and piazzas. The food was delicious. The wine was wonderful. The travel was comfortable. Marta was our guide in Montepulciano. Because she is a local to the area, we thought her stories and insight made the tour! We fell in love with the valley! The Tuscan area was a dream to spend time in!

Anna was incredible! The city is magical and has deep rooted history. The tour was set up to be through a local tour guide. There were stops along the way to break up the travel time and get the most out of your experience!

Great visit to the countryside

Hannah_O, Apr 2026
An absolute blast- our tour guide Laura(spellling may be wrong) was a blast. Just the right amount of humor mixed with great knowledge and story telling. Like other reviews have mentioned- it is a lot walking- and on is a great deal of incline.

We went into this thinking it was a day of wineries - instead it was more exploring Tuscany which was incredible. There was a lot of free time to personally explore little towns. There was no way we would have been able to do a day trip to Tuscany from Rome without the tour so that made it worth it. We LOVED Laura and she gave us some personal recommendations for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend if you're looking for an easy and relaxing day outside of Roma!

Stunning Tuscany

Carol_L, Apr 2026
What a wonderful day and excellent tour - both our tour guide Natascia and driver Giovanni made the day extra special - they were both a lot of fun. It’s a long day so be prepared for that; the hill walking is fine and not too strenuous as the pace was slow - and if the weather is kind (as it was for us) then you’ll really enjoy your day. We would definitely recommend this tour and thank the City Wonders team for a fantastic day in Tuscany which we will not forget. Carol and Roger

Well spent money

It is a wow experience. Beautiful countryside with gorgeous landscape and old town architecture and history. Lots of tastings 😊- wine, chocolates, cheese, olive oil etc. Great and known tour guides.

This is a really relaxing activity. I loved spending time in the small towns. We had a glass of wine at a shop in one town and a gelato in the second town we went to after our lunch at the farm and winery.

We absolutely enjoyed the trip to Tuscany. The scenery was amazing and the food was great. I had been on this tour in the past. I felt like the sisters taught us more about the wine the first time. It felt packed in and rushed once we stopped at the restaurant.

Authentic Tuscan experience

Heather was an unbelievable guide! Bus ride was safe and beautiful and the towns we visited were magical.

Thank You Heather and Ramel!

Heather_S, Apr 2026
Thank you Heather and Ramel! What an incredible, fun and safe day! The energy if the trip was contagious and the tour was a good mix of information and free time. A beautiful and memorable day to Tuscany!

Great for even non-wine drinkers.

Keith_G, Apr 2026
The tour inside of montepulciano was really cool. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and the tour director Heather was great. The right amount of enthusiasm. The wine tasting and meal were very good as well. They did not short cut the amount of food or wine.

A nice day if you have a strong bladder

Bonnie_F, Apr 2026
The great: Montepulciano and Pienza are beautiful towns-- they have historic architecture and panoramic views in Tuscany plus fun shops with quality locally-made products. Lunch in the winery was fabulous-- they make the pasta fresh daily. We also enjoyed the picturesque church stop. The bad: We had half an hour to sprint through Montepulciano because the local tour guide held us captive giving us a 45- minute talk and scolding my husband for looking in a store window and chastising a child who needed a bathroom. The guidec tour should be optional-- I wanted to climb the bell tower to see views or have a glass of wine overlooking the countryside but she wouldn't say where the meeting place was until she finished talking. The other guide, Anna, made sparky comments to me twice about needing a bathroom and it was a 12-hour day so yes, I needed to pee more than once. Having a bus with a bathroom would give more time in both scenic spots. We had two stops at the same local market-- on the way there it was fun but on the way back it was excessive. I really wanted more time in Montepulciano but felt like a naughty child on a field trip.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Dear Bonnie_F, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed the beautiful views of Pienza. We sincerely apologize that the guiding style and pacing did not meet your expectations. Fitting a comprehensive Tuscany itinerary into a single day is a logistical challenge, and we strive to balance informative tours with free time. However, we clearly missed the mark regarding the flexibility and tone you deserved. Your comments about the guide's approach and the repetitive market stop have been noted for our team to review and improve. We hope the memories of the Tuscan countryside remain the highlight of your trip.

A Day at the Winery

Walter_S, Apr 2026
Our guide was exceptional! She gave us the highlights of our complete tour. As we went through different areas while touring she informed us of the history of the area. We were very pleased with her.

Beautiful

Brenda_J, Apr 2026
Fantastic experience, everywhere was beautiful. Food and wine tasting was really lovely, well worth going.

Decent tour, good value.

michael_w, Mar 2026
Overall Good experience. Bus was clean and comfortable. The rest stop was great. Nice people tour guide was knowledgeable. Pienza wasn't valued added after a meal. I would prefer a tour of vineyard grounds and process explained or the grounds of the wine we tasted. Wine was of lower quality than what they actually sell. After friends bought wine before from previous tour, the test wine was considerably different. 3.5 stars due to Pienza and no tour of winery.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear michael_w, Thank you for your review and for highlighting the comfort of our transport and the expertise of our team. We sincerely apologize that certain aspects of the experience, particularly the visit to Pienza and the wine tasting, did not meet your expectations. We take your feedback regarding the wine quality and the lack of a technical tour very seriously. We strive to provide an authentic experience, and we will review these points with the winery to ensure our guests receive the high-quality tasting and educational insight they expect. Your comments about the itinerary balance are also very helpful for our future planning. We appreciate your honesty and hope to welcome you back for an improved experience.

Our Tuscany and Montepulciano day trip from Rome could not have been better. It is a lovely drive to and through Tuscany. Anna, our tour guide, did a great job giving us information as we traveled along. The scenery is beautiful and the towns are quaint and picturesque. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to Montepulciano and Pienza. Lunch at a Tuscan farm complete with wine tastings was delicious and relaxing. Thanks to our tour guide Anna and our driver Paolo it was a memorable experience.

Our whole family loved this adventure. We went to several places in Tuscany. They were all so gorgeous! The views were spectacular! The food was delicious and the tour guides were so wonderful! Super informative and fun!

beautiful scenery

rosemarie_d, Mar 2026
our guide was wonderful and thorough. “the countryside was beautiful and she highlighted interesting facts. the winery part was very commercialized, too many people, not enough wine, just sips. starter was hard bread with unknown toppings. no olive oil and vinegar on the table. meats and cheese sparse. pasta mediocre. i’ve been to many vineyards and wine tastings with food. this would go on the bottom of the list. in fact we went to o one the day before they was wonderful. sitting in long cafeteria tables doesn’t do it for me.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hi rosemarie_d, We’re very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Tuscan countryside and that your guide made a positive impression. That said, we’re truly sorry that the winery experience didn’t live up to your expectations. Your comments about the food, wine portions, and seating arrangements are very valuable, and we will be sharing them with our winery partner to review and improve the overall experience. We hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you again on a different experience that better matches what you’re looking for.

Loved this tour!

Deb_S, Mar 2026
This was a wonderful way to see more than just Rome. It’s a beautiful trip and a great experience. Our guide Anna was exceptional and shared so much knowledge and information about the areas we ventured to. Montepulciano is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Misleading

Manuel_A, Mar 2026
Tourist Trap and waste of a day. Tour guides were nice and knowledgeable, but the advertisement was misleading, it should be renamed: Bus Tour with short stops in Tuscany. You spend almost 7 hours in the bus stopping at these ‘rest stops’ to and from that are filled with local vendors and it seems like this is some kind of ploy to get you to spend money as you spend as much time In these rest stops than at the towns you took the trip to see. Also, the wine tasting was barely a tasting at all. You get about a spoon full of 4 wines and that is it. Not to mention it was packed full with almost no room to eat/drink. The ad says the maximum number of people in the group is 25 but this wasn’t the case as there were twice as many on the trip. The only redeeming qualities really were the views and the towns, they were beautiful. Just wished we got more liberty in exploring them and time to really enjoy them. Would not recommend to any one expecting an authentic wine tasting experience.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hello Manuel_A, Thank you for sharing your experience, and we genuinely appreciate your kind words about our guides. We understand your frustration regarding the travel time; however, covering the best of Tuscany in a single day from the city is a significant distance, which naturally requires several hours on the road; we aim to provide an accessible way to see these beautiful towns, which necessitates using a standard coach size and organized stops. We value your feedback on the group size and the duration of stops, as it helps us manage expectations for travellers looking for a high-value, comprehensive day trip.

Family Review

Stephanie_B, Mar 2026
Wonderful guide - Chiara. Really near perfect experience to see Tuscany if you only have one day. The directions for meeting point were clear, guides were easy to follow, logistics were cared for so we could enjoy. The lunch at the winery was spectacular! The family who own the winery, together, served lunch. The pasta will leave you wanting more - my son had 3 servings! Really great opportunity for bigger groups - I went with my parents, my husband, and 2 kids (ages 12 and 9). Everyone really enjoyed the tour, change of pace from city, and the food!

Beautiful Countryside

Amanda_T, Mar 2026
Really beautiful countryside to see! The bus ride is long in comparison to the ground time but the stops are well thought out and picturesque!

A truly immersive experience in Tuscany! Anna and Daniel were wonderful and very professional and accommodating to everyone. We had a great time!!

Othello_H, Mar 2026
There is very little wine included in this tour. We had a few sips of four wines that didn’t add up to a half glass. If you’re looking for a tour that includes wine, this isn’t it.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Othello_H, Thank you for your feedback. As stated in the tour description, this experience includes a wine tasting, which consists of small samples of several wines rather than full glasses. The tasting is intended to introduce guests to a variety of regional wines as part of the experience. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts and hope the rest of the tour was enjoyable.
