Very Disappointing Experience

Really disappointed with this tour. Our entry to the Colosseum was at 5:00 PM, but nobody told us beforehand that the Roman Forum closes at 6:15 PM. We had an early flight the next morning, so we missed the Forum completely. If we'd known, we would have booked an earlier time. We also weren't told in advance which app we needed to download for the self-guided tour. We only found out when we arrived, and with the slow internet, it was impossible to download it in time. We ended up paying for an audio guide we couldn't even use. A little communication beforehand would have avoided all of this. Instead, it completely affected our last day in Rome.

The fact that this option is an **audio-guided tour**, not a live guided tour, is clearly stated not only in the **product title ** but also in the **product description**. It is then repeated again in both the **title** and the **description of the specific option you selected**. The app to be used is provided at check-in, where our staff assists all customers with the activation process. Regarding the Roman Forum closing time, it is set by the archaeological park and varies by season; it is not controlled by our company. Making a mistake when booking can happen to anyone. However, repeatedly repeating claims contradicted by the information clearly provided before purchase suggests the issue is not a lack of communication on our part.

Appreciated skipping the line and getting in with the ticket. However, it was not clear that the ticket we bought was an audio tour as the descriptions were all similar. Also disappointing was that the ticket didn't include the lower levels and that was not mentioned.

The product description explicitly reads: "TICKET & AUDIOGUIDED TOUR – WITH THIS OPTION, THE TOUR GUIDE IS NOT INCLUDED." It also clearly states: "See the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum with an audio-guided tour." "Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes." Therefore, the experience purchased was an audio-guided self-tour, not a tour with a live guide. Regarding access to the Underground or Lower Levels, these areas require a completely different ticket category, which is sold separately due to its very limited availability. The option you purchased was the standard Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum ticket and does not include access to the Underground. We always encourage customers to carefully read the full description before purchasing to ensure they select the option that best suits their expectations.

Definitely would recommend purchasing tickets in advance for a visit to the colosseum. The line for those without tickets was very long. Also, just a note, the process is quite interesting. You need to first show your printed ticket (from agent), then show the digital ticket. That’s the first layer, then show paper ticket again with passport (adults). Finally, to gain full entry, show the digital & paper copies for a last scan. Be sure to be on time as I have heard the colosseum is strict about time (little buffer but not much). Overall the colosseum is amazing! Definitely a bucket list stop!!

Buy at site for $18 instead not there scammers

Pay 18 euros at the site instead of buying with these scammers. The tickets you buy from these tour companies are a waste of money and time. They don’t really provide anything else but charge you more than double. Also if you buy online you have to be there at a certain time. I bought 7 tickets and missed my time coz my kids were keep us back. You can buy the tickets onsite and don’t have to worry about running late.

As clearly stated in the product description before booking, these tickets **cost more than standard tickets** because they are among the very few remaining options when regular tickets have already sold out. Finally, your suggestion that everyone should simply buy tickets at the Colosseum is incomplete. What your review does not mention is that: * Visitors often have to wait **one or even two hours in line**, frequently under the hot summer sun. * There is **no guarantee that tickets will still be available** when you reach the ticket office. * Even if tickets are available, **you cannot choose your preferred entry time** and may have to wait several more hours before being admitted. The service we provide is not simply an entrance ticket. It offers the certainty of having a reserved ticket in advance, a guaranteed entry time, customer assistance, and the convenience of avoiding the uncertainty and potential disappointment of purchasing on-site. Call and verify if it is a guided tour with a person or a an audio tour. The office is 1/2 mile away from the Colosseum. We paid $100 pp for an audio tour. Could not see the lowest level. Even the ladies at the desk said the price was outrageous for an audio tour.

Second, you did not pay only for an entrance ticket. The price includes: Guaranteed admission to the Colosseum at a reserved time. No need to wait in the long ticket lines. The security of having tickets secured in advance, even when they are often sold out. An audio guide to enhance your visit. Customer assistance before and during your experience. Finally, the product you purchased was clearly described at the time of booking as a self-guided audio tour, not a live guided tour. The inclusions, exclusions, and the fact that the Underground level was not included were all explicitly stated before purchase. We understand that expectations can differ, but it is difficult to hold the agency responsible when the booking description clearly explains exactly what is being purchased. Reading the product details before confirming a reservation is an essential part of the booking process.

Terrible Rome Coloseum, Palatine Hill, and Forum Tour experience.

Supposedly the tour company tried to call us, but we had no incoming calls from them. We arrived at 9:36 for the 9:30 tour - yes, 6 minutes late - at the tour company's office. The man behind the desk said the tour left. We knew we were late, but our driver would drop us off at the front of the coloseum to meet up, but the tour company refused to provide contact info for the guide or contact the guide to say we were coming. I have NEVER experiended this level of rudeness. We got into the coloseum and did our own tour with the help of friends who had visited before and ChatGPT. I will NEVER recommend the Viator connection for this tour.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but your review does not accurately reflect what happened. The meeting time was 9:00 AM, while the guided tour started at 9:30 AM. This was clearly stated both on your voucher and during the booking process. Arriving at 9:36 AM means arriving 36 minutes after the scheduled meeting time and after the tour had already begun. Our guides cannot delay the start of the tour or interrupt the visit to wait for late arrivals, as that would be unfair to all the other guests who arrived on time. Regarding your request to contact the guide, once the tour has started, guides are busy conducting the visit and cannot answer phone calls or leave the group. Rather than criticizing a service that was organized exactly as described, perhaps the review should reflect the real cause of the missed tour: arriving well after the required meeting time. We always encourage guests to carefully read the instructions provided, as they are there precisely to avoid situations like this.

We booked this tour based on other positive Viator experiences and because the Colosseum website would not allow us to book directly. When we arrived, the tour office was in total chaos which did not inspire confidence. Once someone took charge and got us our tickets and listening devices, things improved. However, we then waited 30 minutes past the start of our tour time for the last two memebers of our party to join, which felt rude to those of us who had been on time. The Colosseum itself was also very busy, so there was even more waiting. Once we finally got started, our guide was knowledgeable, but it was a little hard to hear. We also moved through the Colosseum very quickly, and I would have preferred more time to take it all in, to take pictures, and to learn. Our tour also included Palatine Hill and the Roman ruins and there was another incredibly long line to get in. Once inside, again, our guide was helpful in understanding what we were seeing, but we probably spent 80% of our time there and only 20% in the Colosseum. Overall, it was a little disappointing. A lot of it was outside our guides control (the waiting, the heat) and she did her best to make it a positive experience, but I was left wanting more.

They didn't get our tickets. Possible it was just unfortunate for them or they sold too many. Just buy tickets off the offical website or line up the day of and get in for 18 euro. Audio guide not worth 100 dollars. Dont buy tickets or tours off the street.

Avoid this tour. It was expensive and 100% self driven. You will have to download multiple apps and attempt to navigate a completely foreign landscape. You will even have to find the correct line and show your paper AND downloaded tickets 3 times!! You will then play a very short summary of what you are looking at IF you are even in the right place. Most definitely go with a Guided tour that can point out all the interesting ruins that the area contains. I have been to Italy multiple times and this was by far one of my biggest regrets. NOT COMMENT!!! We would like to clarify that your original tour with The Tour Guy was cancelled abruptly at the last minute, as you also mentioned in your review. At that point, the only available solution was to book our last-minute service, which many customers appreciate precisely because it allows them to still visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill when other options are no longer available. Our service was clearly described as a self audio-guided experience, not a guided tour with a live guide. The need to download the audio guide app and follow the entry instructions was also part of the information provided at the time of booking. Instead of leaving a negative review for the company that cancelled your original tour at the last minute, we are surprised that you chose to criticize our service, which actually gave you the opportunity to visit the Colosseum complex on the same day rather than missing the experience entirely. We are sorry that the format did not meet your expectations, but the service provided matched the description of the option booked.

Joanna_Z, Jun 2026 Absolute waste of time! Terrible guide. I booked it to get information about the place, hostory culture! We were told where is a good view to take pictures, whee the toilets are and avoid vendors from Africa. We walked through the city in total silence. She had nothing to share - It was so disappointing. Bad time management - after 2h we didn't even get to the palentine hill. We had another tour schedule at 1pm so we just left the microphones and went at our own pace. Thankfully we had an audio guide downloaded.

The title of the tour is misleading. You will not be going to the Amalfi coast you will be driving along the Amalfi Highway on your way to Sorrento. There are two stops only Pompeii and Sorrento.

This was a tour with large crowds. There was not a lot of interesting information on the audio. The first tour I booked was canceled but I wasn’t told why.

Regarding the cancellation of your original booking, it was not canceled by our company and is therefore outside our responsibility. Don’t bother with audio tour.

Booked this last-minute when our previous tour was canceled. Tickets came right on time. Downloaded the audio tour app easily, but codes didn’t work. The company sent new codes quickly, but took 3 tries to get ones that worked. We ended up giving up on the audio tour as it didn’t sync up clearly with where we were physically and just seemed confusing. Interesting stories, but disconnected from the in-person experience.

We booked the self-guided tour and it was a total waste of money. Can't tell where were supposed to be at any part of the recording. It was more useful to watch the info about the Colosseum on YouTube.

We did the self guided tour and we enjoyed that versus being in a group. We enjoyed going at our own pace. It was a little difficult following the map at the end of the ruins.
