Your guide explains the site’s significance, including stories linked to Romulus and Remus and the rise of Rome’s earliest settlements, helping you understand how this hill became a center of imperial power.

The tour then moves to the Roman Forum, once the political, religious, and commercial heart of the city. Walk among temples, arches, and ancient pathways as your guide highlights landmarks such as the Temple of Julius Caesar, the Arch of Titus, and the Sacred Way.

A history lesson for the books!

Tia_N, May 2026
This tour is the perfect way to dive into the history of the colosseum and the Roman Empire , our tour guide was so knowledgable, she paced the tour out perfectly. We will never forget what we learned and the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and Palantine hill will never be overlooked again as we now know the rich history behind each structure/location.

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you had such a memorable experience and that the tour helped you truly connect with the history of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. It’s especially great to know that your guide’s knowledge and pacing made the visit even more engaging. Your kind words mean a lot, and we’re thrilled that this experience will stay with you. We hope to welcome you again on another tour in the future!

Guided Tour Would Have Been Better

Ron_H, Apr 2026
Paid for ‘skip the lines’ tour expecting a guided tour like our day before at the Vatican and was disappointed that it was an audio tour through a rather ‘clunky’ app.

Response from Host, May 2026

We are surprised by your review and would like to clarify a few points. The product you purchased does not include full skip-the-line access, as this is not stated in the description. We offer entry tickets that let you skip the ticket office line, which can often exceed 2 hours. However, all visitors are still required to queue for mandatory security checks at the entrance, and this line cannot be skipped under any circumstances. Additionally, you selected an option with an audio guide, which is significantly lower in price than a guided tour with a live guide. A guided experience, like the one you mentioned at the Vatican, is a different, more comprehensive service and therefore costs more. For future bookings, we recommend carefully reviewing the product description to ensure the experience matches your expectations. We remain available for any further clarification.

The Vatican

Nancy_G, Apr 2026
Nicolo was a wonderful guide who clearly loved his job! The tour was a long one, but well worth the time. We went into the museum, map room, Sistine chapel, etc, with Nicolo providing important historic details as well as religious significance. Highly reccomend!

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you so much for your kind review! 😊 We’re delighted to hear that you had such a great experience and that Nicolo made the tour so special. His passion and knowledge really do make a difference, and we’re glad you enjoyed both the historical and religious insights throughout the visit. It’s wonderful to know that the tour felt worth the time and that you appreciated all the highlights along the way. Thank you again for your recommendation—we truly hope to welcome you back again soon!

Very interesting but not enough time to see exhibits- tour length needs to be increased

David_C, Apr 2026
Our tour guide was Heidi and whilst she had good knowledge and told us lots of facts we felt quite rushed as the tour didnt allow time to stop to look at the exhibits along the way or even a toilet break until the end. At the end of the tour we would have been able to go back & look but there were few signs so we gave up. We would suggest adding an extra hour to the tour length would make it a much better experience

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback—we really appreciate it. We’re glad to hear you found the tour interesting and that Heidi’s knowledge made a positive impression. At the same time, we’re sorry that the pace felt rushed and that you didn’t have enough time to fully enjoy the exhibits. Your suggestion about extending the tour duration is very valuable, and we’ll definitely take it into consideration as we work to improve the overall experience. We also understand how important it is to allow for short breaks and clearer orientation at the end of the tour. Thank you again for your honest review—it helps us do better. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back for an even more enjoyable experience in the future.

Informative but rushed.

Nick_I, Apr 2026
It was nice to be able to skip the lines, but the tour was probably a bit too rushed. There was a lot of the Colosseum we didn't get to see. I suppose not the guide's fault. Next time I'd probably explore on my own.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad to hear you appreciated the skip-the-line access, as it’s one of the main advantages of this experience. We’re sorry if the tour felt a bit rushed — due to the large area and time restrictions set by the archaeological site, guides often need to follow a set schedule, which can sometimes limit the time spent in certain areas. As you mentioned, this is not dependent on the guide, who aims to provide the most complete experience possible within the allotted time. Please also note that the Colosseum has fixed visitor routes, and there are different types of tickets that allow access to different areas of the monument, each with different pricing. This means that not all sections are included in every tour. Additionally, your visit took place during the Easter period, which is one of the busiest times of the year in Rome, making the experience more crowded and logistically complex due to the high number of visitors. For those who prefer a more flexible pace, exploring independently can be a good alternative — as long as you are aware of exactly what is included when booking. We truly appreciate your comments, as they help us improve and better set expectations for future guests.

Apparently during Easter week was not the time to book even though it’s not part of the churc

Carol_H, Apr 2026
I did not Expect a short window for entry into these 3 places of history. We had booked a 9:30 am tour, got a message the day before the tour that the Colosseum did not release those tickets but we could go anywhere between 8 to 9. What I wasn’t told was that by the time I finished that the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill were closed. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy I got to see the Colosseum but I would have liked to see the other 2 as well. We didn’t realize when we booked our cruise that brought us over here was debarking at the start of Holy Week, they choose when they are coming to Europe. And once you book a cruise it’s go or no refund. We could have cancelled the tour but had no reason to think it would be changed the day before it was to be done. And since it’s not part of the church had no reason to think it would be affected. So just be aware, holidays can affect their schedule. And something the vendor couldn’t control- and I don’t know if this is the norm but it was extremely crowded with people that had to take selfies in 9 different poses throughout the entire Colosseum. I would do it again cause I would like to see what was missed but never during a holiday or spring break, again I what to say that this part was not something the tour company could control but based on the hours of operation for the 3 places I feel like that could have been communicated to us. And yes I know there is a disclaimer on the agreement but when you live in another country and your here for a limited amount of time there’s not much of a window of opportunity to see what you want to see before it’s time to go home. Bottom line is I feel like there should have been better communication or maybe I should lower my expectations but we had just done a tour 2 days before and it was outstanding, Stella did an amazing job so the bar was set high.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for your detailed feedback. However, we are unfortunately unable to identify this experience as one of our tours. From what you described, it seems likely that the booking may have been with a different provider, as the procedures and communication mentioned do not match how we operate our tours. We always strive to clearly communicate any schedule changes in advance and ensure that all parts of the tour (Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill) are properly coordinated. We recommend checking your booking details on Viator to confirm the tour provider, so you can direct your feedback to the correct company. That said, we appreciate you sharing your experience and hope you still enjoyed your time in Rome overall.

Great self-guided tour

Alan_R, Apr 2026
A pleasant self-guided audio tour that allows you to go through the activities at your own pace. Now if only I could get my wife to read every plaque and informational piece like I like to…

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thank you for your lovely review! We're glad you enjoyed the flexibility of the self-guided experience and could explore at your own pace. As for reading every plaque… we completely understand—there’s so much fascinating history to take in! 😊 Hope to see you again for another Roman adventure!

No actual VIP service needed for Colosseum

Cathy_O, Mar 2026
Expensive for actually not really needing a pre booking . Just buying the entrance ticket at cheaper rate thank going through Viator maes more sense as didn’t skip any line or get anything extra to those who had just bought the standard entrance ticket . We were told by the company giving us our ticket that there is no “VIP or skip the line” existing for the colosseum so not sure what the ticket is promoting . Keep your money and just get the standard tickets

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Dear Customer, your review is misleading and shows a clear misunderstanding of the service you purchased. Booking through an agency is not about simply buying a ticket, but about **securing guaranteed access** to a site like the Colosseum, where tickets **regularly sell out days or even weeks in advance**. Attempting to purchase tickets on-site without a reservation often results in no availability at all. The service you received allowed you to: * secure confirmed entry without the risk of sold-out tickets; * avoid wasted time and unsuccessful attempts at the ticket office; * obtain a ticket even at the last minute, with **free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance**. It is correct—and publicly known—that there is **no true “skip-the-line” privilege at the Colosseum**, as this is determined by official site regulations, not by the agency. Therefore, stating that the service provided no added value is simply incorrect. If it were वास्तवly as easy as you claim to purchase tickets directly on-site, you would have done so. The fact that you chose to book through an intermediary clearly demonstrates the opposite. We kindly invite you to provide more accurate and informed feedback in the future.

Last minute change to...

Jen_L, Feb 2026
Last minute change to timings from booking a 12pm slot that was moved to 9.30am. We had plans that had to be moved. Received a WhatsApp message to notify of changes with no email to back this up that it was a legitimate change as what’s app was through a 3rd party.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We completely understand the inconvenience caused by the change in timing and we sincerely apologize for the impact this had on your plans. However, we would like to clarify that the Colosseum and the Archaeological Park are not managed directly by our company. As clearly stated in the tour description at the time of booking, entrance times may vary due to operational requirements or internal decisions made by the site authorities, and these changes do not depend on us. As soon as we were informed of the schedule change by the managing authority, we immediately contacted you via WhatsApp to ensure the fastest possible notification. We understand that you may have preferred an email confirmation as well, but our priority was to reach you as quickly as possible. We remain at your disposal for any further clarification and thank you for your understanding.

ok

Achilles_S, Jan 2026
Tickets issued by Viator but did not receive any more information except the application. Office should be closer to venues visited - had to walk sometime to get the printout tickets

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that our office is located only 3 minutes from the Colosseum, at a distance of approximately 350 meters (0.217 miles), as clearly indicated in the information provided. In addition, all tickets and detailed instructions were also sent via WhatsApp in advance, specifically to allow guests to avoid coming to the agency if they preferred. Unfortunately, it appears that these messages were not read. Our staff nevertheless provided full assistance both by phone and in person at the office, remaining available at all times to support the guest. While we understand that travel experiences can sometimes be challenging, we kindly encourage guests to carefully review the information sent and acknowledge that misunderstandings should not automatically be attributed to others. We remain fully committed to offering clear communication and reliable assistance and thank you for sharing your feedback.

A female 74yr old view of the tour

Peggy_J, Jan 2026
My companion purchased both of us tours of the collesium and all the outside "EXTRAS". Our meeting place was outside of a beautiful chuch (which had restrooms) there was nowhere to sit while waiting. The walk was downhill, but exhausting for two of our group. The collesium was everything from the movies, but so much more...But first: You will be walking more than your 10,000 steps; 47 stair steps that are not the American 7" in order to see the beginning of the place where so many young men and unusual animals died...how those men remaining had to remove not just the dead, but the bloodied sand and bring in fresh sand for the next 'entertainment'. Our guide spoke English very well, and knew much more history of the eras it was built, used, came into nature's decay (earthquake) and the beginnings of the tourist use today. With a tour you are GUARANTEED entrance with your group...you could try to get your traveling companions to awake early, stand in line to buy a ticket, and escort yourselves around...you could bring your folding wheelchair and take an elevator up one level (the walkways are NOT meant for wheelchairs and the pusher needs to be VERY strong) AND you would have to walk around guides speaking several languages to groups of 20 folks. I was VERY GLAD TO HAVE A KNOWLEDGABLE, resourceful guide who found niches for us to gather, see, and hear information of each area...perfect picture vantage points included. After the collesium the tour continued but I was shot for the day

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed and honest account of your experience. We truly appreciate your thoughtful perspective and are delighted to hear that you found the Colosseum experience so meaningful and memorable. It’s wonderful to know that our guide’s historical knowledge, clear English, and resourcefulness helped make the visit informative, well organized, and enjoyable—especially in such a busy and complex site. You are absolutely right that this tour involves a significant amount of walking and stairs, and we’re grateful that you highlighted this for future travelers, particularly those with mobility concerns. We’re also glad that the guaranteed group entrance, strategic stopping points, and well-chosen viewpoints added value and comfort to your visit. Thank you again for your kind words about our guide and for sharing such a vivid description of your day. We hope the rest of your time in Rome was just as enriching, and we would be honored to welcome you again in the future.

colosseum in the rain

Sian_L, Dec 2025
To walk a structure thousand years old is a humbling and awesome experience. Though it was raining, we were able to glimpse the life of people in the past. It was cold and wet and medieval and still a bit crowded, though they tell us it is the off season. All in all, it still was an enjoyable vacation.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughtful review! Walking through such an extraordinary monument as the Colosseum, together with the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, truly is a humbling experience, and we’re glad you were able to feel the atmosphere and imagine daily life in ancient times, even under the rain. While the weather can certainly add a layer of challenge, it often also gives the sites a unique, almost timeless mood. We appreciate your understanding regarding the crowds, which can still be present even during the off season, especially at such iconic landmarks. Thank you for choosing this tour and for your positive spirit — we’re happy to know it remained an enjoyable part of your vacation and hope to welcome you again in Rome under sunnier skies!

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Hi, thank you for your review. We’re very sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced. We would like to clarify that Colosseum tickets are strictly timed-entry, and it is mandatory to arrive on time for the scheduled slot. This information is stated clearly on Viator and in the confirmation details we provide. To help us understand what happened and avoid future misunderstandings, could you please let us know where you read that the tickets were valid for 24 hours? This would allow us to verify if any incorrect information is appearing online. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you’ll consider visiting with us again under better circumstances.

After locating the tickets for entry because we had been guided to the colosseum entrance we didn’t have the QR code for the audio guide or for the forum

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Dear customer, we would like to inform you that we always send all required QR codes to our clients before the experience. For any issue, our agency is located just a few steps from the Colosseum, and you can always contact us by phone, WhatsApp, or through the Viator chat. For this reason, we truly cannot understand how you were unable to receive the QR code for the audio guide or for the Forum, but we are, of course, fully available to assist you and clarify any doubts.

Friendly staff and detailed instructions

Grace_H, Nov 2025
We arrived at the meeting point at our designated time, the company running this were very friendly (even gave us cold water bottles as it was very hot) and gave us detailed instructions as to where to go and how to review the audio guide in the app. Remember to bring ear buds so you can listen to the tour as it is self guided audio from your phone, I liked this because you can listen to it at your own pace.

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re really glad to hear that you appreciated our team’s friendliness and the detailed instructions provided at the meeting point. Offering small touches like cold water on hot days is our way of making your experience more comfortable. We’re also happy to know you enjoyed the flexibility of the self-guided audio tour — it’s a great way to explore at your own pace. We hope to welcome you again soon for another experience in Rome! Kind regards, Tour in the City Team

Short changed - check fee status of kids at attractions, most are free to 12 and under

Conrad_G, Nov 2025
I booked a VIP ticket that offered the full experience. There was no option to add a child as children under 12 are free at the Colosseum, we also had a Roma Card so should have been ok. The vendor could not add my son so I was forced to pay an extra $50EUROS and only received standard tickets. On arrival at the Colosseum I was told I do NOT have to pay for my son as he was 12 - I felt fleeced by a confusing and unnecessary processing and also lost out on the VIP experience. Rome has to do more to make it simpler for people to understand what you DO and DO NOT need to pay for at these attractions. I have visited Rome and the Colosseum on three previous occasions, so not a newbie to this. Over processing is ruining the experience both here and all over the world.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to read about your disappointment and would like to clarify the situation. You purchased your tickets at the very last moment, when standard Colosseum tickets were already sold out. As clearly stated in the product description, the only remaining option was a special last-minute ticket, which is available up to one hour before entry time. This ticket type allows flexible entry, time changes in case of delay, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before the visit, but it is also more expensive than standard tickets. For future visits, we strongly recommend booking in advance to take advantage of lower-priced or discounted tickets. Unfortunately, last-minute availability often requires premium tickets that do not include child discounts.

Good purchase and experience

My family and I went to pick up our tickets from Via Labicana 96. The team delivered excellent customer service and were very friendly. Although we had VIP tickets, this made no difference as we had to queue to enter the Colosseum. I don’t have an issue with queuing, but it was so disorganised as there was no crowd control which meant people kept cutting in line. Also, I found it was odd that the attendants checked our tickets an 3rd time even though we went through security! Getting into the Roman Forum and Paletine Hill was more bearable as the queue moved faster. Overall we had a good experience seeing the sites.

Response from Tour in the City Team: Dear Guest, Thank you very much for sharing your detailed feedback and for your kind words about our team — we’re delighted to hear that you appreciated our customer service and enjoyed visiting the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. We completely understand your frustration regarding the entrance queue at the Colosseum. Unfortunately, once inside the security area, access and crowd management are handled directly by the site’s official staff, and we have no control over those procedures. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding. We’re very glad to know that, overall, you and your family had a good experience exploring these incredible sites, and we hope to welcome you again on your next visit to Rome! Kind regards, Tour in the City Team

Easy booking. Audio guide worked well. Nice to be able to stagger the Collusseum followed by Forum/Hill.
