What are people saying about St. Peter's Basilica

Informative but too short and too big a group for the price
The tour was very informative, but in order to really take everything in, a smaller group would have been nicer. In addition, 3 hours is really not enough time to see and look at everything. The best part of this tour is the skip the line access and the ability to get into St Peter’s Basilica right after the Sistine Chapel. It was also a bit difficult to understand the guide’s English at times.

See an icon without the long queues.
Brilliant way to see St Peter's Basilica & the Sistine Chapel, without the queues. The guides took us right through the line-up without having to wait. The commentary by Francesca was fresh and interesting. Our party of 2 was late, but Franceska welcomed us when we caught up with the rest of the group. We saw so much, and then had the opportunity to go back and see more in further detail. A great tour of a landmark attraction.

Don’t buy this on Wednesdays
DONT buy this tour for a Wednesday. The pope talks to the people and the st Peter’s Basilica is closed. I don’t know why they offer this your for Wednesday, probably because they are getting paid for 3 tours and why not make extra…it is in the fine print and the tour guy says constantly that it is to keep people from getting angry. We left that afternoon so we couldn’t even purchase another tour of just basilica for Thursday. Outside of that big annoyance, the tour was decent.

Comprehensive tour
The tour was very comprehensive and the guide was very knowledgeable. The headset was good but not the easiest to understand everything being said in the crowd + with the guides accent. A little bit of understanding around rest/toilet stops would have been good. Overall a good experience and a good way to see the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica.

Vatican City
St. Peter's Basilica on a sunny day, Rome
  • Be prepared for security lines similar to those at airports, including metal detectors, bag scanners, and potentially long waits.

  • This is one of the most popular attractions in all of Italy, so crowds are nearly inevitable.

  • The Basilica of St. Peter has a strict dress code—no bare shoulders, midriffs, or knees—and you won't be allowed in unless you adhere to it.

  • A skip-the-line tour of the Vatican Museums that includes St. Peter's enables you to bypass the basilica's long entry lines; you still have to go through the security check.

  • Climbing the dome atop the Basilica to take in the fantastic views over St. Peter's Square, requires a ticket.
