Valario was the best! So informative, lots of history, and so funny! I can tell he really knew all about the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.

Islam was a very good guide. Place was very crowded , it manageable. There was an elevator for those of us who couldn’t manage some of the stairs. Islam was very knowledgeable and gave an excellent presentation.
Joe_W, May 2026
Valerio was excellent, very knowledgeable and make the tour very enjoyable. It was such a wonderful experience.
Jonathan_N, May 2026
All three sites are must sees in Rome. I would ask other travelers whether or not they need a guide. It is helpful having explanations however the pace of travel might not be what you want. I think I might have been better off going my own pace.

Outstanding! Scott from Scranton was exceptional! His knowledge and sense of humor kept us engaged, making this experience more than worth it! Highly recommend Viator and walking City Tours!
In fact I just booked another Viator tour for tomorrow! Do it, worth every penny😍
Sherry_D, May 2026
There is a lot of walking and climbing stairs so wear comfortable shoes. It is very crowded so keeping up with your tour group can be challenging.
Lauralee_G, May 2026
Sylvia was an absolute fantastic tour guide. Was tremendously knowledgeable and enthusiastic in narrating the history, with added illustrations of what things what have looked like in the actual time period. Would highly recommend.

This was contracted out to City Wonders. We were going to be about 7 min late, so we called guide.
He said okay we'll wait. Called City Wonders from taxi got someone else..no help. Called once we were there, got someone else on phone. no help, no cooperation. $236 gone.
I get it that we were 7 min late, 100% my mistake, just the poor & apathetic attitude got under my skin.
So we carried onward....paid €18 each and had a great time self touring Coluseum interior, Roman Forum were amazing. Free water on site too.
DO IT YOURSELF. def worth visiting though for sure. Amazing.

Dear Richard_C,
We are sorry that you were delayed and understand your frustration. However, as stated in the booking confirmation and terms and conditions, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate late arrivals or guarantee that guides can wait. This is due to strict timed-entry ticket restrictions, as tickets expire after the designated entrance time.
As this is a group tour, we are also unable to delay the experience for the rest of the guests who arrived on time. Please also note that guides’ personal phone numbers are not provided to guests, and all communication is managed through customer service and the on-site coordinator.
We are nevertheless pleased to hear that you still enjoyed visiting the Colosseum and Roman Forum.

Great tour with Hasim. He’s a very knowledgeable guide and very personable. We learned a lot about the colosseum and Rome, but be prepared to walk!
Angus_S, May 2026
A big disappointment, to be honest. Having done a similar tour a few years ago I was looking forward to another amazing day but it was all a bit flat and uninspiring. The guide needs to spend more time on explaining the history and significance of what he is showing his tour rather than making constant comparisons to Hollywood movies or American landmarks and cracking bad jokes. Very underwhelming and I’m not surprised a number of people left before the end - we wanted to but didn’t want to miss the skip the line into the Coliseum.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Angus_S,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations.
We understand that guiding styles can be subjective, and we regret that the balance of commentary and historical information was not to your preference.
Your comments will be shared internally and taken into consideration as we continue working to improve our guests’ experiences.

Water and a hat are a must. Wear comfortable shoes for the uneven terrain. There is a vending machine at Palantine Hill.

Awesome tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. Our tour guide Davide was highly knowledgeable and engaged with tour members. A little pricey but well worth it. Highly recommend.
Don_a, May 2026
It was very crowded but organized well, go early in the day, bring water, even in May. Make sure you have your ticket and passport with you and handy me it is checked many times . Our tour guide was excellent
Sheri_A, May 2026
Francesca was very knowledgeable about the colosseum. She took us up and around. If you needed the lift you were able to use it. She made it very enjoyable.
Sherrie_C, May 2026
Sylvia was fantastic. Her passion and knowledge in conjunction with her high energy made for an extremely enjoyable 3 hours. Thanks Sylvia!!!!

My husband and I did this tour on our honeymoon and enjoyed every minute of it. We learned so much about all the iconic Roman monuments and got some fantastic views. Maria-Luisa was a wonderful guide—it was clear she loved sharing her love of Roman history with us. Worth every penny!
Angela_S, May 2026
My mom, aunt, and I not only got a guided tour, but a boatload of extra information and history about the ruins we were exploring that we didn’t expect to receive at all that took our experience to another level entirely! Nicola may be a “tour guide”, but what we got was an archaeologist and historian who answered every single question we had and then some! Request Nicola for your tour and you will have an invaluable experience that immerses you in Rome’s past and present!!
Lynn_B, May 2026
Our guide was very interesting and knowledgable about history and archeology of the coliseum and Forum. Absolutely a worthwhile tour of Roman history
KaLynn_S, May 2026
Thoroughly disappointed in this tour.
We payed nearly $155 extra to have arena access, and we only got fifteen minutes in the special access area. The first ten minutes we were given a lecture about events that took place in the amphithéâtre (we would eventually hear the SAME lecture an hour later), and only given FIVE minutes to enjoy the arena on our own. The “upgrade” cost us $10 a minute!!! We also selected the upgraded tour because we were lead to believe that we would be in a group of no more than ten people….but no. They had us unite with a larger group, making it 25 guests in total. Being part of a large tour group really sucked the experience out for us. We couldn’t hear our guide through the little speakers they give you, so we were barely able to retain any information.
I feel absolutely ripped off.
Do not pay for the arena floor access if you’re expecting a small tour group!!
I wouldn’t recommend the tour at all, actually! Just get an audio guide—you’ll have to listen to your tour group leader through a speaker anyway.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hi KaLynn_S,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations.
We understand your disappointment regarding the limited time on the arena floor and the larger group size. Arena access is regulated by the Colosseum authorities, and time spent in this restricted area is often limited in order to accommodate all scheduled groups throughout the day.
The group size must be selected online so if you reach out with a booking reference we can check what was booked and compensate if required.
Your comments are extremely valuable to us, and we will share them with our operations team.

Easy meeting place to find. Started on time. Maria-luisa was a brilliant guide. She took everything at a great pace. Was very informative and knowledgeable. Really appreciated the large photos allowing us the imagine how things used to be. There was ample time to take photos at great vantage points. Marie-luisa made sure everyone on tour was looked after. Learnt so much more having experienced guide. Thought 3 hrs was about right. Could stay on afterwards at Forum if wanted. Definitely recommend

Excellent experience and a well managed tour, guide was very informative and made the experience one we'll never forget.
Taylor_P, May 2026
If you are paired with Valerio, you are in for a treat. I've been on a lot of tours myself, ive never laughed, enjoyed myself and had every question answered as much as I did with Valerio. His ability to paint a real picture about the Colosseum was unreal. Felt like i was there.
Michael_B, May 2026
Tremendous experience. Our guide Silvia had a wealth of knowledge about the Colosseum. There were spectacular views inside and out. Our tour was semi-private with only 7 in the group. Highly recommended!
Bob_L, May 2026
George was excellent in giving the history of it all and answered all our questions. He was patient kind, helpful and most pleasant.
Jane_L, May 2026
What an opportunity to get a history lesson in Ancient Rome from an actual university anthropologist- our tour guide- made the history come to life asking us to use our imaginations and think about the colosseum and the lives of those who attended and died all in the name of entertainment and sport- also debunking some Hollywood interpretations! Great credit to our tour guide who navigated a thunder and lightning storm while we were there and still led us to the Roman Forum and palantine Hill- explaining the digs of the past century.
Made the experience that much better for all of us! Thank you
teresa_w, May 2026
The tour initially seemed a little expensive, but it’s true — you get what you pay for. This tour was worth every penny and even included the audio tour.
We had Sam, “The Egyptian,” as our guide, and he was incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to answer every question, even after the tour had ended. The tour lasted a full three hours, and Sam was brilliant throughout. You leave with so much knowledge and insight.
Sam never compromised on safety at any point during the tour, which was especially appreciated given the number of stairs involved.
Highly recommended… A+
Bonnie_M, May 2026
Giorgio led a tour to Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. The tour was very interesting, and his knowledge helpful in understanding the history we were walking around to see up close. The Colosseum was spectacular. We would highly recommend this tour to others.
Susan_L, May 2026
The guide Valerie C. was amazing! Super knowledgeable and perfect for this tour!! Will use this source again! His knowledge made the trip better for me this time!
Paige_S, May 2026
My husband and I did this tour and loved it! Valero is the best and kept us intrigued with all the history! Would highly recommend to anyone that wants to visit the Colosseum!
