This is a fantastic and detailed experience. The whole booking experience was simple with Viator and City Wonders. It is a long guided tour at 3 hours in total (a little longer if you do the arena floor walk), but Amy makes it a wonderful experience. She has a great sense of humour, lots of knowledge and great stories too! If you have the time and want to learn a lot, this is a brilliant option.

Great review on the site… Not too long and not too short. Our guide was very knowledgable and had valuable archeological information to share about the sites. Makes you want to learn more.

Sabrina was great and explained the historical facts and stories about the places. She was very patient and made sure everyone was sticking together. Gave great advice when walking and best places for pictures. Also when showing us pictures she made sure everyone saw them and even made it more fun than it looked. Overall it was a great experience!

We had a wonderful experience visiting the Colosseum with our kids. It was absolutely doable as a family—even with a stroller—though there were som3 areas where the kid needed to walk, which was manageable. The tour was well organized, and our guide, Lorenzon, from City Wonders was both knowledgeable and flexible.

Viator and their partnering company Citywonders that actually provides the tour do not communicate. Viator was misleading and made me sign up my kids as infants which in turn led for Citywonders to not have a ticket for them. Waste of money and time.

As City Wonders operates the tours on behalf of Viator, we strive to ensure that all booking information is clearly aligned between both platforms. The age range of infants, children and adults is specified only and it is different for the Colosseum and the Vatican for example.

Our very knowledgeable guide Scott made this tour so enjoyable. There is a lot to pack in over 3 hours but he managed to do so with enough detail and humour that made it very relatable. Certainly didn't feel like we had been given a history lesson with endless and forgettable dates. This was the third time we had done a tour like this and it was by far the best.

We are very happy with our tour of the Colosseum. Haythym was our tour guide and made seeing the Colosseum and the Roman Forum very informative and safe. The Colosseum is a extremely busy location and being a tourist difficult to maneuver through. We highly recommend the tour.

Great tour! However, be mindful of lots of walking (3 hours+) that includes steep inclines and cobble stone and rough pavement. Strong calves and ankles needed.

Amy/Amit was a wonderful tour guide - very knowledgeable, friendly & patient with our group. My husband and I took the exact tour in October with another company, but wanted to enjoy it with our kiddos. I learned so much more and retained more knowledge from Amy than any other tour guide I can remember! Even with the rain and hail, she stayed fun and positive.

The tour went great, it does require a lot of walking, going up and down some steep stairs and some places needing extra concentration while walking across uneven stones but it was well worth it. Our tour guide Haythm, was amazing, full of knowledge and answered everyone’s questions. He managed to keep my 13 year old child son engaged the whole time. There were a lot of things we thought we knew about the colosseum, palatine hill and the Roman forum but we were wrong. We learned so much during this experience, especially about the structures and the history of not only famous people but far less famous individuals. Some of the information was eye opening but I won’t spoil that, you’ll just have to take the tour to find out. Haythm our tour guide was also very patient with folks needing extra breaks and also led us to some amazing vantage points for pictures.

I would recommend this tour ten times over to anyone, local or visitors. From start to finish, the tour guide, Hyathm was giving information. Not to mention, the tour coordinators called us to ensure our arrival at the correct starting point. If you are going to spend your money, spend it here. We learned so many new things! The Coliseum/Forum/Palatine Hill tour was fine. Better than a self-guided tour but not the best in general. It was informative but lacked originality and was less relevant for small and even teenaged kids.
Highlights:
1) you do “skip” the standard entry line which looked exceedingly long and slow-moving
2) the guide had a wealth of historical knowledge and shared some interesting facts about the Constantine era and gladiators who fought in the Coliseum.
Lowlights:
1) we were a larger tour group (20+) so with the crowds, it was harder to stay close to our tour guide at all times. This makes the audio device useless because you can’t clearly understand what the guide is saying when there is static (due to being too distant)
2) the tour can easily be 30 mins shorter with less content but more punchy storytelling
3) though not the tour operator’s fault, the number of times someone checked our entry tickets (3-4 times) seemed excessive. You do end up standing in several “group entry” and security check lines which were not a long wait but I imagine are way worse during the summer months.
Overall, I would opt for a shorter tour if possible but would still recommend a tour over self-guided options. With kids, I would recommend a tour more aimed towards keeping them engaged. This tour was for adults.
