This. Trip. Was. Everything! Talk about an amazing day!! Timely, informative and comfortable. Sarah was a wonderful bus host/tour guide, and Maximilian was great behind the wheel. Even winding up and down the streets leading to the peak of Mt Vesuvius, it was smooth sailing for our group of 51!

The long day trip was definitely worth it! We got lucky with the weather, so we enjoyed the stunning views from Vesuvius and the tour around Pompeii. The ride up the volcano was a bit scary, but our driver Paulo handled it very professionally. And our guide Valentina made our experience smooth and pleasant. Thank you!

If you upgrade, continue to Ercolano, a town on the Bay of Naples, and relax over a pizza lunch with views that sweep along the coast. Three courses are included, leaving you recharged for your afternoon at Mt. Vesuvius.

Amazing Pompeii!

Pamela_J, Mar 2026
This is a really nice day trip. The guides - Viviana (day coordinator) and Giancarla (Pompeii), and the driver Gianni (truly masterful at parking) were all amazing. The hike to the crater at Mount Vesuvius is worth it, but not an easy climb, especially after a full pizza lunch. I should have skipped dessert (nah, it was too delicious). The day went from 7:15 a.m. checkin to 8:30-9 p.m return to Piazza del Popolo. The coach bus is comfortable and easy to nap on. Prepare for all types of weather. We had sun, rain, hail, and wind on the mountain. I'm sure this wasn't normal, but better to be prepared. It's definitely colder and windier on top. This is an adventure I highly recommend.

Five star experience!

Amazing experience! Tour guide was exceptionally good. Our favorite thing we did in Italy. Such a memorable trip.

Wish there was more time at each stop.

Jennifer_C, Mar 2026
For a 13 hour day, very little time was spent exploring Pompei. Our guide in Pompei was great but there is so much to see and we only got a glimpse. The hike of Vesuvius was great and our guide was knowledgeable. Our overall "guide" from the company was only with us on the bus ride, and did not lead or participate in the Pompei or Vesuvius tour. She was very pushy for tips, mentioning no less than five times (and suggesting we get cash from the ATM) that tips were appreciated.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the limited time in Pompeii. As this is a day trip from Rome, with travel time of approximately 3.5 hours each way, the schedule does require balancing time between transportation, Pompeii, and Mount Vesuvius. While this means visitors get an overview rather than an in-depth exploration, we do aim to make that time as engaging and informative as possible, so we’re glad to hear you enjoyed your local guide there. As for gratuities, these should always be discretionary and never feel pressured. We will be addressing this internally to ensure it does not happen again.

Julia (guide) and Julio driver) did an excellent job today. Julia was very personable and welcoming. And idk how Julio drove so well in the sharp turns to Mt Vesuvius! Tony at Pompeii was great. I will say I disliked the headsets bc I felt it was falling off my ear the entire time. But we were able to hear Tony well and he was very informative. Lunch/pizza was very good and generous portions. The cone tour was closed but the ecological guide and walk was amazing. He was very excited to share his knowledge and teach children in the group. Overall a wonderful day! Thank you!

Amazing trip!thanks to our wonderful guide John! He took great care of us from start to finish, making sure my twins felt comfortable and engaged. His explanations were clear, fun, and full of fascinating details, you could tell he really knows and loves what he does. It was one of those tours that make history come alive. Truly a memorable experience!

Great experience to learn about history and nature surrounding Naples/pompeii

Rianne_B, Mar 2026
Very nice opportunity to see some of Pompeii and the Vesuvius in the same trip! Great to have a guide at Pompeii and a geologist at Vesuvius, this way we could ask specific questions and learn so much more about the nature and history of the area. Our tour leader was Marius and he did a fantastic job in making the experience stress-free and fun for everyone, especially during the bus trip to and from Rome. Would definitely recommend!

Fantastic Tour!

Sarah_S, Mar 2026
Sarah was an absolutely fantastic tour guide! She accommodated myself and my daughter since I had been to Pompeii twice before. We were given free time to roam the site, and it was fantastic. The crater hike was invigorating and truly gorgeous. It is a long day, but so worth it! Sarah even let me use her phone charger on the bus ride back since my phone was on low battery. 5 stars!

Great trip

This trip was bucket list checked off. Absolutely loved it. Only wish I knew to include the museum ticket.

Robert_W, Mar 2026
Excellent tour of Pompeii and climb to the top of Mt. Vesuvius. Local guide at Pompeii was very knowledgeable and our Tour Leader, Marius, did an excellent job on the bus explaining Italian culture and customs across the regions.

Awesome tour

Antonia_D, Mar 2026
It's been the best tour we have ever had. Flavio is the funniest and most professional guide we have met, he knows about everything and gives extra important information about Rome and Pompei. Max, the bus driver knows drives safely and you feel confident. The two guides, in Pompei and in the Vesuvius, have very clear and important information about the sites. 100% recommended.

We had a wonderful time...

We had a wonderful time during this trip, despite the weather doing its best to spoil it! All the meeting details were provided in advance and were very clear. We chose the option that included a hike to the top of Mount Vesuvius. Viviana was our guide, and we were very pleased with how she handled the tour and the insightful information she shared along the way. Our first main stop was the archaeological site of Pompeii. Here, we were divided into smaller groups and handed over to professional tour guides who took us around the site for approximately two hours. It was an incredible experience to see the city as it stood 2,000 years ago, with many of its buildings—at least at ground level—still intact. Our guide, Francesco, was excellent, sharing fascinating details about the buildings we were seeing and the lives of the people who once lived there. The murals are remarkably well preserved and offer a glimpse into how vibrant and colourful a Roman city would have been. The main forum was a highlight, where we were given around 15 minutes of free time to take photos or explore further. The site itself is vast, so the guided portion only gives a brief overview. Nevertheless, we found it to be a truly unforgettable experience, and we definitely plan to return in the future to explore it in more depth. Our next stop was a restaurant for lunch, which had a wonderful view over the Bay of Naples. The meal was good and filling—Neapolitan-style Margherita pizza followed by a sweet treat. After lunch, we continued to the hike up Mount Vesuvius. Unfortunately, it was very foggy during our visit, so we weren’t able to see the crater or enjoy the views of the Bay of Naples from the summit. Nevertheless, hiking on an active volcano was still an amazing experience, and we made the most of it. The hike itself isn’t too difficult, but it does require a reasonable level of fitness. It is recommended that you wear appropriate shoes- as the ground is uneven and may be even muddy. On the way back, we stopped at a small shop for some limoncello and sweet samples. The prices were much more reasonable than in Rome, so we ended up making a few purchases. Overall, we were very happy with the trip and would definitely recommend it.

Fabulous

Brett_M, Nov 2025
Fantastic trip. Everything was as stated. We had perfect weather. Would like more time on Vesuvius. Would do again.

Worth It

Lyn_B, Nov 2025
Pompey and Vesuvius are a must see. The lunch is fantastic. The ride is long but the guide balanced the time with helpful information and time of quiet. It was worth the time and money.

Great Option to see both in a single day trip

Michael_P, Nov 2025
A great option to see both Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius from Rome in a single long day returning to Rome by dinner time. You may have a more relaxed time at both attractions if you plan an entire day for each with different tours so that you have time explore more after the tour and to take your time climbing up Mount Vesuvius because it is a bit challenging and you may not want to be rushed as it is very steep. I didnt even try to go all the way because I could tell I would need more than the allowed time being a little older and slower walking. My son was very glad we did it and he made it to the top with someone from Ukraine that was on the tour with us. They did use headsets during the Pompeii portion of the tour which made it easy to hear even though there were about 15 or so of us in our group. Angela was an excellent guide and very informative and watchful recovering someone who got lost in Pompeii from our group. A smaller group tour with a longer duration separating these two parts (Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii) would be nice if you have the time. Otherwise, this is a wonderful tour.

Great guides and a nice trip

Mark_T, Nov 2025
Combining Pompeii and Vesuvius is an obvious choice. I wasn’t sure I was up to the hike but made it to the top. The guide from City Tours Errica was terrific and the guide at Pompeii was good too. Great experience

What a day!! Pompeii was mind blowing! The pizza lunch was delicious. Julia was great and made sure we made our hiking time!

Excellent tour

Matthew_H, Nov 2025
Tmstarting with the negatives. The travel is a bit of a slog, unavoidable when traveling so far but to be considered, the coach is not greatly comfortable but, again, to be expected when transporting 30 ish people for a 12 hour round trip. That said 100% utterly worth it for the history in pompeii alone. The tour guide was delightful and engaging The geologist walk was fascinating and ultimately made the trip worth it all on its own. The female geologist our group had ( forgotten her name ashamed to say) was brilliant insightful and excellent, clearly passionate. If you are at all interested in volcanoes and the science behind the pompeii eruption its worth the time. Would highly recommend

Ancient Roman life immersion and wonderful lunch

Jimmy_S, Nov 2025
Driver was superb to drive on those winding roads. Guide Julia was excellent at giving info and logistics. The Pompeii local guide Elena was very knowledgeable. Lunch was great.

Disappointed

Suzanne_W, Nov 2025
This trip does not allow you to See or walk near the current volcano area. The Pompei tour guide was great.

Pompeii needs more than an hour...

nicolan72, Nov 2025
The long drive from Rome (3hrs both ways) limits your time at Pompeii. The hike up Vesuvius was great - you don't get to go all the way around the cone. Remember to carry toilet paper, the porta potties at Vesuvius did not have toilet paper or running water to wash your hands. The guide for Pompeii did a great job explaining the ruins. However, 1 hour touring the ruins is NOT enough. We say the amphitheater and the spa The Margherita pizza was delicious. However, the pizza was a little soggy, they left too much waster in the mozzarella. If you are not going to spend time in Naples, this side excursion is a good alternative. The driver did a great job and our guide was sweet and knowledgeable. (Pari and Tao)

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Dear nicolan72, Thank you for sharing such a detailed review and for your kind words about our team, especially Pari and Tao. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hike up Mount Vesuvius, the pizza lunch, and the insights provided by our Pompeii guide. We completely understand your wish to have had more time inside Pompeii — it’s such an extraordinary and vast archaeological site that even a full day there can feel too short. Our guided tour portion in Pompeii lasts approximately two hours, which allows guests to see many of the highlights within the schedule of a day trip from Rome. To explore the site in greater depth, we recommend a dedicated full-day visit from the Naples area. We truly appreciate your helpful feedback about the facilities and your advice for future travelers. Thank you again for joining us and for taking the time to share your experience.

Extremely interesting day with Angela our guide on coach. Nicola was very good at Pompeii explained everything very well and very knowledgeable. Lunch at Kona restaurant was excellent. If you want to walk crater at Mount Vesuvius make sure you are fit as very steep. Luca our driver was excellent up and down narrow roads

This was a treat for my boyfriend who's very into geology. Our previous Pompeii tour got cancelled because of the weather, so this was last minute, and what a treat! Our guide was lovely (I feel terrible that I can't remember her name), the geologist and guides for Vesuvius and Pompeii were great, this was an amazing day trip out of Rome.

The excursion was great, however it went beyond the 12 hours. I think we could have eliminated a couple of the driving stops.
