Itinerary
Meet your guide and group in central Rome, and travel south together by air-conditioned coach. After a relaxing journey, arrive in Pompeii to meet an official guide for your tour of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Pompeii Archaeological Site. The site is large, and excavations are still ongoing, but you go straight to the highlights to maximize your time. Check out the homes and shops of ancient Pompeii that lay buried for centuries beneath the volcanic ash of Mt. Vesuvius, and learn about the eruption of AD 79.
If you upgrade, continue to Ercolano, a town on the Bay of Naples, and relax over a pizza lunch with views that sweep along the coast. Three courses are included, leaving you recharged for your afternoon at Mt. Vesuvius.
Depending on the option you booked, either hike up to Vesuvius’ crater or enjoy a stroll along the slopes with a geologist guide. After, regroup for the coach journey back to central Rome.

This was a great family trip! I highly recommend it. The restaurant was had a spectacular view of the water and Naples. The tour in Pompeii was informative and interesting. Loved seeing the ancient ruins. The bus driver navigated the twisted roads that took us to Mt Vesuvius like a pro.

This is a fantastic experience! How cool is it to say you’ve hiked to the top of a volcano?! It’s a long day, but worth every second. The Neapolitan pizza was incredible, and touring the ruins of Pompeii will leave a lasting impression. Our tour guide Patrizia was wonderful, very knowledgeable and made sure we had very clear instructions for a stress-free tour.
Representatives were at the appointed place on time. Groups were easily organized. Bus took us to Pompeii where we met our guide. She was wonderful! She was engaging, personable, and informative. She gave us suggestions for lunch! Thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle that is Pompeii. You will not be able to see the entire city in one visit since it’s so vast! Good value for the money!
The bus ride tour guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The Pompei guide was not very good, he was hard to understand and didn’t have much patience while trying to lead a group of 20 people through a very overcrowded Pompei site.
First of all, this wasn’t the tour that I booked. I originally booked a semi private tour for $701. It was canceled on us fairly last minute and I was offered this group tour on a bus with 52 individuals at a discounted price. I asked several times what the price would be and the only answer I got was whatever the difference in price between the two different tours was. It was canceled fairly late and me and my wife really wanted to go so I did elect to go on the group tour. I did receive a refund of $222. So I paid $479 for the tour annd after talking to couples on that tour and the pricing on Viator’s site, I established that I definitely overpaid for this tour by about $129 or more, should of been around $350. Contacted City Wonders (The tour provider) and they said I would need to speak with Viator, Called Viator and they said call City Wonders. So not only did they not give me a discount for the inconvenience, ok fine , but I definitely overpaid for what that tour was. As of now it still has not been resolved..
May be this review will get someone’s attention.

A fabulous day with lots of hisory and geography thrown in. Comfortable walking shoes are a must as is being ok walking on uneven surfaces. Take lots of water or be prepared to buy some.
Overall a decent trip and worth a visit. There was a bit of faffing around in some parts and not very clear communication, more so when we arrived to Naples. I do think times could be managed better to allow for more time in Pompeii as 3 hours is not enough. 2 hours is the guided tour in which, Enrico was very good but spent too much time in some parts within Pompeii. It just means an hour free time to rush lunch or go around Pompeii in your own free time. I would still recommended going as it’s worth seeing but most of the day is spent travelling.
Surreal experience traveling to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. The hike up was more challenging than I had imaged but very much worth it! The restaurant we had lunch had the best view and pizza, and we were provided a bonus stop at the end! Kiara was a fun, informative guide and our driver Romil was top notch! I’d trust him to drive me anywhere after seeing how skilled he was maneuvering the bus around the switchbacks! Grazie!
It was an amazing experience. Sarah escorted us on the bus the entire trip and she was knowledgeable in both history and Italian culture. Climbing to the Vesuvius crater was hard but soooo worth it. Pompeii ruins were fantastico. They are truly the window to history. Pizza lunch was amazing and the view overlooking the bay of Napoli while we ate was stunning.

Tour through CityWonders. Meeting point was clear and easy to find. Antonino was our guide he was incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and organized. The pizza lunch was incredible! Our Pompei tour guide was also very knowledgeable. This tour was the perfect overview of Pompei (about 1hr40min) and mount Vesuvius (about 1hr 30min total). Definitely wear athletic clothes and gym shoes! Bus ride is long but comfortable & air conditioned. Would definitely recommend this tour!

Wonderful trip, you must do it!! Antonino was a great guide and our driver was excellent. We learned a lot and the authentic 3 course pizza lunch was huge and very good. I originally wanted to go to Naples to have pizza but I am glad I did this instead. The Mt Vesuvius hike is very doable as long as you are ok with a 15 degree incline the whole way up (about 20 minutes to the top). If it’s going to be a hot day, make sure you bring a water bottle, fan, and sunscreen!
This was an incredible experience from start to finish. Antonino was the best tour guide we’ve had during our Italy trip so far. From the beginning he did a great job of making us feel taken care of and what we could expect throughout the day.
During our bus ride to Pompeii, he gave periodic history lessons about Rome and Pompeii that were very intriguing and informative. We learned a lot about Roman history by the end of the day.
When we arrived at Pompeii, our guide Vincenzo was fun and knowledgeable about the site. Being able to walk through the buildings was breathtaking.
Afterwards, we went to the restaurant to eat and the 3 course lunch was absolutely delicious!
We then set out towards Mt. Vesuvius which had winding roads all the way up to the hiking start point. Our bus driver Luca did a fantastic job the whole day but especially during the drive up and down the mountain road.
Overall we had a terrific time and Antonino clearly cares a lot about everyone enjoying the trips as well as life in general. He was the most genuine and authentic tour guide we’ve had and this was truly an unforgettable experience!

Natasha is was great. The day was wonderful. Would recommend to others to bring euros because cards do t work on the mountain. Bring water a fan and an umbrella in the summer. Great experience.
Marius is an excellent tour leader. He is funny and shares culture and his experience living in Rome. The tour is excellent. Pick up instruction is clear and tour company is efficient. The bus is comfortable. Pompeii is amazing, well preserved. I wish there are more time to see the exhibit. Mt Vesuvius’s view into Maple is amazing. Truly worth it to make a trip to Pompeii
We had a fabulous trip! Marius made the drive to and from Pompeii fun and informative. They have many planned restroom stops and our guide at Pompeii, Claudia, had a true passion for the site. We did this with two teenagers and highly recommended.
Fabulous day. Errica was amazing. Informative and enthusiastic. Pompeii was just something that you have to do it was incredible. It did seem a bit rushed at times but we did get to see all the highlights. Vesuvius was well worth the steep climb. I would do it again
Amazing experience. . .except for the extreme heat. Our guide (I apologize because I neglected to write down his name) for the 2-hour tour was professional, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. If we return, I will certainly try to arrange another tour with him (City Wonders bus tour from Rome on 8/12; Pompeii tour 12-2 pm). It is difficult to comprehend Pompeii without walking amongst the ruins. Don't miss this opportunity. . . just go when it is cooler!!

What a day! It was a last minute decision for this tour but I’m so glad I booked it. My partner and I had a fantastic time. Our guide was Marius. What a lovely man. Not only was he knowledgeable about the entire tour but he provided additional information about Rome itself. He also provided a list of best places to eat and the best gelato places. We had a wonderful time at the tour with Marius. I would highly recommended.
The tour with Roberto was exceptional! The entire experience was pleasant and he was very knowledgeable about Italian history, culture, and food. We would highly recommend this tour.

On my tour, Chiara was our friendly, knowledgeable guide and Luka expertly drove us safely on the mountain roads of Vesuvius and the streets in route to Pompeii. Finally I got to see the incredible, uncovered city of Pompeii, which was great for me because I loved learning about that city in school. And Vesuvius is a beautiful mountain. The appetizers and pizza we ate for lunch was delicious. This tour was worth every penny!
Flavvio was our tour guide on the coach and he was very friendly and entertaining. Fabio was our tour guide in Pompeii and again was friendly and knowledgeable. Both guides loved their jobs and it was absolutely worth going on the trip with them. A great day out. The pizza lunch was amazing at the side of Mount Vesuvius.
