This was a great experience! We chose this option so we wouldn’t have to figure out transportation there and back and it was well organized! We had plenty of time to walk around Pompeii on our own. Our group leader, Lucas, was really great! This was a great decision and I highly recommend it.

It's a long walk to catch the coach in Naples. Our coach, the 2nd coach, was late and used 20+ minutes of our tour.

very well organised - it was good to be sure of train, bus and entrance to pompeii all arranged and of getting to venue without any worries. Lucas herded us well throughout which involved getting from train station in Naples through streets to the bus (not far but old be easy to get lost when unfamiliar to the area). Lucas was attentive to our needs and questions. He also gave us an overview of the history of Pompeii on the bus. Pompeii itself was amazing a truly unforgettable experience.

Traveling with Italia Tours made getting to Pompeii easy and hassle free especially with our family group of 9. Generally I was the guide around Rome and this gave me a break from trying to figure out transfers, etc. Mario was our guide. He was friendly and spoke excellent English. He always made sure everyone was present. He was calm and informative and took excellent care of us even facilitating the retrieval of a list phone that was left on the bus. 5 hours in Pompeii wasn't enough time though. Our family felt like we needed 2 days there (ages 14-57). But it is enouttine to get a taste of Pompeii in a busy schedule. It was a highlight for our family. I would very much recoythis tour with Mario.

The train trip to Naples and transfer to Pompeii was fantastic! Laura, our guide, was so friendly and organized. Everything went so smoothly. It was a great day trip from Rome!

My husband got sick on the train. Got to Naples had to find our own way back. Ok paid again 104.00 of our own money train ticket even though we paid bill with the company for a return ticket asked for partial refund and the answer was NO. Would not recommend.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Dear Edward,
We are very sorry to hear that your husband was unwell during your trip and that you were unable to complete the tour as planned.
As you can imagine, the train company has strict policies regarding ticket changes and cancellations. Because all tickets were purchased in advance, we were unfortunately unable to modify or refund them at the time. Our tour guide did her best to assist, checking in several times about your situation and delaying departure to help as much as possible.
Please note that, at the time of booking, all guests acknowledge and accept our cancellation policy, which clearly states that this particular tour is non-refundable once confirmed. For this reason, and because all travel arrangements had already been paid for, we were unable to issue a refund.
We completely understand how disappointing this situation must have been, and we hope your travel insurance can assist with the costs incurred. We also hope your husband has since recovered and that you may consider joining us on another tour in the future.

Our travel guide Monica was amazing , We did the unguided tour to Pompeii . She gave clear instructions on meeting points and times for three different tour groups with ease nothing was a problem and she gave everyone personal attention even assisting us with additional travel after the tour

The trip to Pompeii was absolutely worth it. Exploring the ruins on your own gives you the freedom to take it all in at your own pace, and there’s so much to see that self guiding is actually the best way to go. Also a little hint, there’s free water fountains around Pompeii. Mostly on the main walking areas and few off the beaten path. Which comes in handy when your walking a lot and get thirsty. So bring a water bottle or two so you can fill up. An enjoy the site.
The tour guide, in this case Carlos, primarily helps with logistics getting you on the right train, then onto the bus, and helping you bypass the lines at the entrance. He also escorts the group to a nearby restaurant for lunch, which costs €18 per person if you eat at the spot right next to the ruins. Honestly, the food was pretty good, so no complaints there.
After lunch, it’s back on the bus, then the train, and finally a smooth return to Rome.
All in all, I’d recommend this trip, especially if you want the convenience of transportation and tickets taken care of. Carlos did a great job keeping everything on track and stress free.

Our entire group got a tour guide with headphones and maps. Ours left us at the gate no tour no headsets no map. Nothing was offered. I’m beyond upset.
Response from Host, May 2025
Dear Marlene,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your experience. I'd like to take this opportunity to ask that you reconsider what you have written. As you will note, the following information is provided at least 4 times throughout the experience description page for Pompeii Express.
"This experience is self-guided inside the ruins at Pompeii".
I struggle to understand how you could post a 1-star review when we've provided exactly what is described.
In our own defence and that of every other tour operator working hard to deliver exceptional experiences, we would strongly urge that you read descriptions and confirmations, instead of leaving reviews that are largely unfounded and incredibly damaging.
The fact that there were other groups following guided tours is easily explained by the fact that they booked guided tours, which we also offer.
Sincere regards,
ItaliaTours Team
