Elisabeth and our driver Fabio were both fantastic. Very knowledgeable of the history and traditions of Pompeii and Positano. Both incredibly pleasant. They took us to some great spots and were professional through and through. It was a long drive and they were great troopers about it. I am glad we got to ride with them as they made the experience fully enjoyable. Highly recommended

It was a very good tour of Pompeii! They had a local guide employed at Pompeii. He was very knowledgeable and it was very interesting. It's hard to see the Almalfie Coast in a few hours but it was a gorgeous drive and we did have about 1 1/2 hours for lunch on our own and time to look around. Gorgeous Views!! We're glad we went on this tour!

Itinerary

Your morning starts with pickup from your hotel in central Rome by air-conditioned minivan. Settle in for a several-hour drive to Pompeii Archaeological Park.

On arrival in Pompeii, skip the ticket lines and the crowds trying to get into the popular attraction, and take a guided tour covering much of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Then, head toward the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy views of the Bay of Naples along the drive to Positano, where you can stop for lunch, relaxation and shopping (own expense). After several hours in Positano, continue down the coast to Amalfi, or visit the waterfront villages of Maiori or Vietri sul Mare.

Your full day ends with a return drive and drop-off in Rome. Note that if you visit in the summer, due to road closures, your itinerary may be reversed or reworked.

Long day, but worth it

This was a great trip and my family of 5 (two adults, three teenagers) really enjoyed it. We lucked out and had the van to ourselves, so it turned out to be a private trip which made it even better. Pompeii was awesome, despite the insane heat. Our guide in Pompeii was very knowledgeable and gave us a great overview of the site. Positano and the drive along the coast was beautiful. I would probably have skipped the long lunch for a shorter meal with more time to explore/shop, but you still a good amount of time to get a feel for Positano. Our guide Doha was so friendly, and we really enjoyed spending the day with her. She gave us some great recommendations on restaurants and some cool places to visit when we returned to Rome.

Driver was excellent. He is accompanied by a translator. You stop for breakfast on the road. Then arrive at Pompeii and a local guide takes over. After Pompeii, you drive to positano for lunch on the beach. Then you take the coastline back, stop for brief pictures at Naples and then return to Rome. There is no talking during the ride, meaning, the translator is not giving you information as you drive, so a .good chance to sleep.if you need to catch up.

Romulo was a fantastic guide at Pompeii and honestly enhanced the experience so much with his knowledge and passion for Pompeii. Malak was a great tour guide and Jordano navigated the narrow roads on the coast well. Our Pompeii guide was awesome. Private tour was the way to go. Pricey tour but better to be able to set your itinerary.

We got off to a rough start. The tour operator grabbed the wrong bag of radios so several of us did not have ear radios through Pompeii. Our guide through Pompeii was absolutely amazing though. Positano was wonderful. I would have liked more time to explore the town. We had a wonderful lunch but it ate up a lot of our limited time in Positano.

This is so much more than just Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast…. You have a driver, an assistant guide and then a licensed guide for Pompeii. We had a group of 6, ages 76 to 12 and everyone was FANTASTIC. Need to stop for a bathroom break? No problem. Need water? No problem. Want a great lunch suggestion? They have you covered! We never felt rushed it was lovely. We saw so much, learned so much and had such a great time (all of us) We booked 6 tours for this trip and this one hands down was our favorite! A Perfect Day Trip!

We were nervous about this day trip since we knew it would be a lot of time in the car. But we are so glad that we went! It was truly one of the highlights of our time in Italy. Our guide through Pompeii was funny and moved through the sites quickly, which was a perfect pace for our teenage boys. We had lunch right on the beach and Positano. It was incredible food and an unforgettable experience. Our driver for the day was amazing, and safely got us through the tight and twisted roads. Our guide for the day, Elizabeth was wonderful. Pointed out important details as we drove, but did not talk at us the whole time. The perfect balance. She was knowledgeable and always let us know what we would be doing next. We especially appreciated the mini market stops in the morning on the way out and halfway on the way back to stretch your legs and grab drinks and snacks. A well- planned day that we thoroughly enjoyed. As long as you have correct expectations about the long time in the car, and like who you are traveling with ;) , it will be an incredible experience! Wouldn't recommend it for older people . First we went to Pompeii where is was extremely hot in the sun but the robotic tour guide had an umbrella for herself, would have been nice if she had a couple spares. Then we went on a long long winding drive to amalfi 2 hours. That i later found we could have taken a fairy to. But to top the day off our tour guide took us to her favorite restaurant down a long steep hill. The guide left us at the restaurant to eat and am a fast eater and so is my granddaughter but the second i ate the last bite of my salad two waiters brought over extra chairs and told us we needed to pay and let the next people in. Salad wasn't that great either for $93 euros.

Regarding the journey to the Amalfi Coast, the ferry is not part of this itinerary and, if chosen, would have required a separate ticket and additional payment. Our tour is operated by private vehicle, as clearly described in the itinerary, allowing guests to travel directly between the scheduled locations. We are also sorry to hear about your experience at the restaurant; however, the restaurant is an independent business and its service, pricing, and management are not controlled by our company. Our guide simply offered a dining suggestion and did not operate or manage the restaurant. While we fully respect your comments about the meal, we feel it is important to distinguish that experience from the actual tour and the service provided by our team. We always take feedback seriously and remain committed to offering professional, safe, and enjoyable experiences to all our guests.

We drove to Pompeii with...

We drove to Pompeii with a stop at a roadside gas station for breakfast. A private guide in Pompeii showed us around; it was very informative and well done. Then we drove to Positano and had lunch at the Pergola and had some time to shop. We then drove further down the Amalfi coast to Ravenna and back to Rome. The drive after lunch was long, about 4 hours. We did stop about 3 times to take pictures with views. Ana was our guide and spoke good English and was very personable. A great experience. I gave it 4 stars because I would have liked to be able to choose to go straight back to Rome after lunch or continue down the coast.

What a fabulous day! Nicholas, our guide with perfect English & Pino, our driver, collected us from our hotel in Rome & whisked us off to Pompeii where we were met by an expert for a fascinating 2-hour tour which really brought it all to life. Then off along the Amalfi coast where Pino excelled at navigating the mindblowing hairpin bends & squeezing past other traffic when there really wasn’t enough room, giving us stunning views all the way to Positano for lunch. Nicholas answered all our questions along the way, & was not only knowledgable & charming, but got us a beach-view table for an absolutely delicious lunch. It was a very big day, made much more enjoyable by Nicolas & Pino - highly recommend!

Worth it if OK with heavy traffic in mid-peak season

Pompeii is awesome as is Positano. We had time there. The rest is drive-thru if that. It is one insanely trafficked road once you get to the Amalfi Coast. We had a couple accidents (not uncommon) that rerouted us, so long day with limited sightseeing that wasn’t driving but we did experience the Amalfi Coast.

It was a long day - this is not meant to be a day trip from Rome (better to be based in Naples). We spent nine hours in the car for 4.5 hours of sightseeing. Pompeii was a nice tour, and Positano was lovely but there was not enough time to really enjoy it. Unfortunately due to an accident we were unable to go to Ravello, but given that would have been a brief visit, it was not worth the attempted drive there. JB was a nice tour guide and our driver was amazing (driving the Amalfi coast is tough!)

Unfortunately, traffic conditions and unexpected events such as road accidents are beyond our control and can sometimes affect the itinerary, particularly along the Amalfi Coast where road access is limited. While we regret that it was not possible to visit Ravello on this occasion, the decision was made to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests and to avoid spending additional time in traffic for what would have been only a very brief stop. This was an awesome experience with our tour assistant JB and our driver Joesph. They took great care of us and made sure we were where we needed and wanted to be. I highly recommend this for a day trip to get out of Rome and see more of Italy in a controlled and safe environment.
