Itinerary
Stroll with your guide from Piazza Barberini to the nearby Capuchin Crypt, where the mummified remains of Capuchin friars await. While listening to an audio guide, explore labyrinthine tunnels, hearing about the 18th-century monks who created the macabre surroundings.
Having piqued your interest in Rome’s quirkier sights, continue to the Domitilla Catacombs. It’s one of Rome’s largest catacomb sites, with standout frescoes and early Christian symbols.
Next comes a church that’s off the usual tourist trail. The Basilica dei Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti sits on top of ancient Roman ruins, and a look inside reveals layers of religious history. After admiring Baroque-era frescoes, an underground early Christian chapel, and more, your tour ends back at Piazza Barberini or by the Basilica of San Nicola in Carcere.
To experience Rome’s catacombs without the daytime crowds, upgrade to the evening after-tours tour instead.

This was a great trip that we stumbled on when trying to fill a free day in Rome. It was super interesting and the right amount of creepy. We had two guides, Ale and Sylvia, who were both super fun, kind, and knowledgeable, and gave us a wonderful lunch recommendation after. The catacombs involve a lot of stairs and uneven surfaces which was slightly challenging for some people but added to the experience. The group was a little bigger than I anticipated and it may have been a little easier in a smaller group, but the other patrons had really interesting questions so that was fine too. Still worth it!

Such a morbid, but fascinating tour. Kler met us and lead us to the Capuchin crypt where we marveled at the intricate arrangements of bones before we took the very comfortable coach over to the Catacombs. Kler provided us with an astounding amount of knowledge and humor throughout the Catacombs tour. One thing to note, it definitely isn't for people who suffer from claustrophobia, as those tunnels are narrow, sometimes short and the entire thing is dark. You are underground after all. But such a cool experience.

Sylvia and Katarina were wonderful! We had a great time. Tour was well balanced, perfectly timed to be able to enjoy everytjing, fun and informative

My family and I had a wonderful time exploring the catacombs and Roman crypts! Our tour guide (Alain) was excellent--he provided so much interesting information and really brought our tour to life. This was one of me and my family's favorite parts of our trip to Rome :) 10/10 would recommend!

While you can book yourself the ticket through the Friar, the one through the monastery cannot, so overall a profound experience. Was not cold enough in the catacombs to warrant a sweater. No skeletons in the catacombs.

Cat and Kler were excellent guides! They were both very knowledgeable and kept things entertaining. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

It was an amazing journey into
2000 yrs past. The first depiction of the Virgin Mary and Christ was very special

Andrea was an awesome guide. The tour highlights some hidden wonders of Rome. The crypt is a bit eerie but fascinating. I wish we had more time in the museum but felt like overall the length of the tour was good.
Waldo_M, Jul 2026
The tour guide was extremely informative, and he had a good vibe. We weren’t rushed. Andrea gave the information and knowledge needed. It was educational and fun. The whole experience was fantastic. There were two guys named Andrea. Both were great, but ours was the one with dark hair & glasses.

My tour guide was Silvia and she was very enthusiastic about the city of Rome and its history. She made the experience a lot more engaging and fun with the landmarks she pointed out and fun facts about the city as we passed through points in our itinerary. The tour itself with City Wonders was seamless and we moved efficiently between points with an air conditioned bus that made the Summer heat a lot more bearable.

This was a great experience. Paula was an awesome tour guide with a lot of knowledge. The tour was the perfect amount of time. Highly recommend.

This was an outstanding tour. Our guide Sabina was friendly, helpful and absolutely full of interesting information! The tour itself was a unique experience, and I am so glad we got to do it!

Miriam was awesome. Kept us entertained, but also made sure we knew all the info. Appreciated the air conditioned bus in the heat. Great tour!

Great experience. Tour guide Alain was very knowledgeable and made the tour extremely enjoyable. Might not be appropriate for those who are uncomfortable in confined spaces.
Kathryn_M, Jul 2026
Our tour guide Paula was excellent and very knowledgeable. The crypts and catacombs were very interesting. I really appreciated the included transfer in the air conditioned bus. I think the last stop should be eliminated. It makes the tour longer and leaves you off in a not great area.
Philip_V, Jul 2026
Wonderful tour of crypts and catacombs inside and nearby Rome. Our tour guide, Paula, led us through the stops quickly and efficiently, while providing useful insight and knowledge throughout. Would definitely recommend for folks wanting to experience a different side of Rome.

Amazing tour of the crypts and catacombs in Rome. Of all the tours we did in Rome this was the best. Great way to get out of the summer heat and learn about the history of Rome.
Elizabeth_G, Jul 2026
Lots of stairs & steps. Floors uneven. Not suitable for walkers/walking sticks, etc. Not suitable for those with claustrophobia
Liesha_W, Jul 2026
These were valuable to see. The Capuchian experience was good, the crypt was amazing. The tour starts at the Capuchian crypt and it’s done by audio guide. Might as well book it yourself. The crypt we had to walk 5 mins uphill to the bus, bussed to a second location and then the tour was done by a knowledgeable Nun. It was good. You are paying to be transported to the crypt and they cover the entrance fees but otherwise there are very few other services they provide. They aren’t your tour guide for any of the experience.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hi Liesha,
We're pleased to hear you found both the Capuchin Crypt and the second crypt worthwhile visits.
As outlined in the tour description, the Capuchin Crypt visit is self-guided with an official audio guide provided by the museum, while the second site is led by its own official guide. Our service includes transportation between the locations, entrance tickets, and the coordination of the overall experience to ensure a smooth visit.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience, and we hope to welcome you on another tour in the future.

Was a good tour and amazing to see. Other then the bus you could have done it one your own. But was still amazing to see and on my bucket list

We are a family of four with two children ages 15 and 12. Our 15 year-old daughter found this tour online and added it to her wish list. This tour was great for the whole family surprisingly one of our favourite things that we did in Rome. A truly unique experience to see the Crypts and the catacombs. Our guide was very knowledgable and very much a people person. We really enjoyed him. If you’re looking for something you unique to experience in Rome and to cool off in the catacombs, I highly recommend this tour.

It was a wonderful experience. Very emotional and our guide Allen was terrific. We wish we had even more time.
Joanne_M, Jul 2026
It’s a trip of three parts, all of which were interesting. The Capuchin crypts were almost spooky but good to see and artistic in an odd way. The catacombs were more extensive than I realised and the final church was definitely an archeological lasagne.
Michael_S, Jul 2026
Great tour! Very interesting! The tour at St. Priscilla led by a Nun was very informative and she was excellent!!
Robin_M, Jul 2026
Emiliano was excellent! He was knowledgeable, engaging and personable. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour.
Austin_E, Jul 2026
Our tour guides, Andrea and Emiliano, were a blast. They were very funny, engaging and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed this unique experience touring and learning about some of Rome’s lesser known attractions and history.
erik_t, Jul 2026
Paula was an amazing guide and did a great job explaining various historical facts for each place we visited. This tour are exceeded our expectations and Paula was amazing. Highly recommend this tour

The tour was interesting for not knowing much about the topic!
The Crypts tour is self paced with a head set. Our guide gave us information before entering on which exhibits to stop and learn about.
The Catacombs were very interesting, we would have enjoyed more time at it.
Our guide was okay, it seemed to be more of a paycheck than a job he actually cared about.

This tour is the perfect one to do in summer. Maria was always conscious of making sure we were weren’t in the sun too long. The first stop at the crypt ended with the group walking to a cooly air conditioned bus for the ride to the catacombs. The catacombs were refreshingly cool being so far underground. Special note: by Vatican law and because the Vatican controls to grounds, different tour guides will take over inside the catacombs. Don Sam was great. He was an actual priest. Be aware, there are no photos inside the catacombs. We went to the last church via bus as well. The tour ends a short distance from multiple Rome metro lines. It was a great half day tour!
