The only complaint I have about this tour is the back and forth of when our tour time was. We booked months in advance for a 10:10 am start time. We ended up having to be at the meeting point at 8:45. It’s my understanding that the change was due to some shifts in management for the Colosseum, but I just felt like the communication from the guides could’ve been a little cleaner to seem less stressful. Otherwise, EXCELLENT tour! Fabio was fantastic, we learned a lot, and we had a wonderful time!

It was great intel on a hugely crowded hot day. Getting in without the lines then learning what you're seeing is powerful. The guide was knowledgable and insightful but try and go when no so hot. The lines and vast amounts of humanity was overwhelming

Our tour guide Morola was great. However, the booking website was very unclear. I definitely wanted to see the underground of the colosseum, but was told I didn't book that portion of the tour. The other couple on our tour also had the same negative experience in booking. I think that we all should have been extended the courtesy of also visiting the lower level since that's what we thought we were booking. I would recommend calling Viator directly rather than trying to figure out exactly what you need to book.

We are sorry to hear about the Underground not being available on the day of the tour, unfortunately that area sells out very quickly and was not available when you booked the experience.
It was hot in Italy the first week of September..90 degrees plus..Not so Humid though. We trekked along looking at the Forum and Palentine Hill. Our guide showed us where Ceasar was cremated.
Colloseum was interesting..Got a few pictures..Wish we could have got tickets to the underground, but was sold out. I almost got pickpocketed from Colloso Metro to Termini on the way back. I felt the guy trying to get in my front pocket while his accomplices were distracting my wife with questions...Be Careful.

If the weather is HOT dress for it comfortable shoes are a must And there is a medal detector so don't bring a Swiss Army knife. You will lose it

Do not ever trust this company, their wording or ticket descriptions! Booked a 3 hour tour for 6 of the Colosseum in Rome with the title "Roman Colosseum & Forum with Optional Arena Floor OR Underground" and paid ~$230 per person. (there were other much cheaper options BTW) We had all already been to the Arena Floor and Forum, but were excited to experience the underground through Viator because of past positive tour experiences with them. Well, read the fine print is basically what I was just told by phone, because way down in the Tour Description, buried in the middle of the ticket fine print, it does say (No Underground), It's a very misleading sales tactic, and I'm sure I am not the only person to have been burned by this one. As a happy, repeat customer of ViaTor for years now, I have to say that I am more than disappointed and I will not be using them in the future.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are very sorry that the experience you booked did not match what you were expecting, particularly as your main reason for booking was to visit the Colosseum Underground.
We would, however, like to clarify how this experience is structured. The product is offered in three clearly differentiated booking options:
• Regular Levels – access only to the standard Colosseum levels
• Arena – includes access only to the Arena Floor
• Underground – includes access to the Underground areas in addition to the other sections
Each option has its own inclusions and exclusions displayed during the booking process, and the selected option is also stated again in the confirmation voucher received after booking.
Underground tickets are extremely limited and often sell out well in advance. When the Underground option is no longer available, it is shown as sold out, while the Regular Levels and Arena options may remain available to book.
The price of the experience also reflects the semi-private format, with a maximum of 7 guests per group, rather than a group of 25 people (usual size of group tours).
That said, we are genuinely sorry that the distinction between the available options was not clear enough in your case. We certainly do not want any guest to arrive expecting an Underground visit when a different option has been booked, and we will review the way the alternatives are presented to see whether we can make this even more immediately apparent.
Daisuke is the best!!!! He was incredible kind and knowledgeable. He made it interesting and fun. The tour was so worth it!

We had Mario, absolutely hilarious! He really made the trip a lot of fun! The title of the experience was a bit confusing since it says arena or underground. For us it only included the arena, not the underground. But it was definitely a really great trip! Totally worth it!

We had booked the arena tour, and I confirmed ahead of time that the tour would proceed and wouldn’t be cancelled as I had heard of your companies switching at the last minute if they couldn’t secure access to the arena. I was assured that would not happen. And it did. A couple of days before we were told that two tour groups had been refused entry and they were changing us to a guided tour of palatine hill and the forum and we would be on our own in the colosseum. They did give us a Roma pass and a 10% discount but given we were hardly going to be in Rome the Roma pass didn’t do much for us.
So whilst the tour guide was excellent and it all turned out ok, I wouldn’t bother paying extra foe the arena floor entrance as it’s not guaranteed and ended up costing us more money than it should have.

We understand that this was particularly disappointing given that the Arena entrance was an important part of the experience you had booked.

With viator it’s all about the fine prints, ignore the titles and the first descriptions and focus on the fine prints, this was the cheapest entry that didn’t even include the arena nor the underground, what a rip off! Thanks!

We would, however, like to clarify that the Freedom Experience you booked included entry to the upper levels of the Colosseum. The booking title presents the different available options, while the specific inclusions depend on the option selected at checkout.
According to your booking, neither the Arena nor the Underground was included in the option you selected. Nevertheless, our team actually upgraded you to include access to the Arena floor during your visit. Unfortunately, the Underground is an area that sells out very quickly and much in advance, therefore it was not available when you made the reservation nor on the day of the tour.
We always encourage guests to carefully review the inclusions of the specific option selected before booking, as different Colosseum experiences can have different access levels. We’re sorry for any misunderstanding and hope this clarifies what was included in your reservation.
Wouldn’t recommend this experience via Touriks & Viator if you’re seeking a reliable tour operator & straightforward experience.
We booked 3-months in advance - intentionally selecting an early tour to beat the heat during Summer. A few days prior to our anticipated tour Touriks informed us that they had cancelled it. Given the vague message and suspicious email account we assumed the email was a scam and ignored it. A day or two prior to the tour, Viator (the booking platform) contacted us informing us our tour had been changed to 11:30 & we either accept or not go/get a refund. We accepted however, the tour started 45 mins late.
Despite advertising ‘underground’ in the Rome-Colosseum experience title, Touriks never provided us the option to select this (our preferred) option; much to our disappointment we didn’t get the experience we paid for. We found this (the experience titled ‘Colosseum Arena, underground, or regular entry, and Roman forum’) deceptive & misleading, overall false advertising.
After doing some research, we acknowledge numerous unrepeatable tour operators exist in Rome with recent crackdowns.
Be cautious as many tour operators alike Touriks operate this way - they’ll sell you an experience but not secure the allocated ticket time slot you’ve purchased…

The Underground option is subject to availability and tends to sell out very quickly. Based on the booking details, it appears that the Underground option was no longer available at the time your reservation was made, which is why you could not select it.
Regarding the change in start time, unfortunately as we explained in our direct communication together, the ticket for your original tour belonged to a limited batch of tickets that we had to cancel since we discovered they were not always granted access to the Colosseum.
To guarantee that you could still enjoy the experience you had booked, we offered you the alternative 11:30 AM departure.
We understand that the change of time was inconvenient, this is certainly not the level of punctuality we aim to provide.
We take transparency very seriously and regret that your experience gave you a different impression. Extremely Disappointing Colosseum Tour
I paid €220 per person specifically for an underground Colosseum tour, expecting to receive the experience that was advertised and to have the opportunity to explore the underground areas. Unfortunately, we were only taken to the arena floor and were not given the opportunity to navigate or experience the other areas I expected to see.
For the price I paid, this was extremely disappointing. If I had known that the tour would only include the arena floor, I could have purchased a much cheaper ticket—approximately €68—and had a similar experience without spending €220 per person.
I feel that the tour was not worth the price, and I am very disappointed with the experience. The description and what was actually provided did not match my expectations, and I would not recommend paying this amount for this tour based on my experience.
I believe a partial or full refund would be appropriate given the significant difference between what I paid for and what I actually received.

While our actual tour guide, Donnatella, was fabulous, unfortunately the experience was not what I booked. A week before the tour, I was contacted by touriks to inform of a change to itinerary beyond their control for colosseum entrance. I appreciated the communication and the small discount offered to compensate. Then the day before the tour, I was contacted again, asking if I wanted to change to a free upgraded tour in exchange for touring later in the day. I declined due to plans and hot weather, noting we’d like to stick to our original morning tour time of 8:45.
They confirmed and advised to now meet at 9:10. The tour did not head out until 9:20 and included 2 hours in the forum before allowing us to tour the colosseum on our own (the change they had first informed me of).
Again, our tour guide was great but the logistics and multiple changes did not leave me with what I had planned and paid for

Pros: Tour guide was good, and the changed MEETING location was well-communicated and was easy to find (for us, the others in our tour were unaware of the changed location, though)
Cons: Listing and what we purchased was very misleading. What we had selected said “Underground” but our guide said we only had “Arena”. This ONLY included the Arena, NOT the entire Colosseum (going around and onto the other floors where we saw all of the other tourists with other tickets accessing). Very disappointing considering the amount of money we spent.
Note that after booking, our voucher stated “Underground, Arena, OR Regular entry”

Get a guide! There is so much history here and if you travel all this way to see it and learn about it, spend the extra to get a guided tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly! Gave us such a great picture of ancient Roman life. We had direct access to the sites. Incredible tour!

Our expert-guided tour of the Colosseum was very well organized and enjoyable. We were part of a small group, which made it easy to stay engaged and explore all the included areas at a comfortable pace. Overall, it was an informative and memorable experience. Note if you're in a wheelchair or carrying a stroller, the site is not very accessible - but otherwise great experience.

On the day of your visit, entry to the Colosseum was delayed due to factors outside of our control, which can occasionally happen because of security procedures or site operations.
We regret that this impacted your plans, and we always recommend allowing some flexibility between scheduled activities when visiting major attractions such as the Colosseum, where delays can occur despite our best efforts. Thank you for sharing your experience.
The tour was great, exactly what we were expecting. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Even with terrible heat she made sure to find us shade and cooler spots for longer discussions of the history.
