While this is a long day it is well worth the time. The Amalfi Coast is beautiful and the Pompeii was very interesting. The shopping in Posttonic was great. What made this really special was our guide Sarah. Knowledgeable, friendly and kept the group together and on time. Definitely recommend this excursion. Well worth the money

Great for zero hassle travel. Very organized and felt secure. Guided tour of Pompei was short but great info. Short stop in positano was perfect as we wouldn’t have been able to get to amalfi coast otherwise. Our driver Julio and guide Sarah were excellent!!

Overview

Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast are two headliners in southern Italy, but it’s virtually impossible to visit both in one day by public transportation. On this day trip, save hours with round-trip transport directly from Rome, explore the ancient ruins of Pompeii with a guide, and visit Positano. Unlike many tours that simply drive along the coastline, you have free time to experience Positano's colorful streets, stylish boutiques, and breathtaking Mediterranean views for yourself.
  • Hassle-free full-day transportation to Pompeii and Positano from Rome
  • Priority entry to Pompeii and a guide to better understand the complex ruins
  • Views of the Amalfi Coast along the famously scenic coastal drive
  • Visit Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast, with free time to explore at your own pace

What's Included

  • Skip-the-line entry to Pompeii with reservation fee included
  • Official licensed guide for a 2-hour guided tour of Pompeii
  • Round-trip transport from Rome in air-conditioned coach with Wi-Fi onboard
  • Free time in Positano (2 hours) to explore, shop and enjoy coastal views
  • English and Spanish assistance throughout the day (depending on option selected)
  • Gratuities (optional)
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off (available with Private Tour option only)
  • Food and drinks

Meeting and Pickup

Meeting point

  • Piazza del Popolo, 00187 Roma RM, Italy

At the center of Piazza del Popolo, by the large fountain with the lions and the obelisk. The nearest metro stop is Flaminio (Line A).

End point

  • Viale Giorgio Washington, Roma RM, Italy

Viale Washington, next to Piazza del Popolo

Itinerary

Head to the meet-up point in central Rome, where you'll board an air-conditioned coach and set off for Pompeii. Meet your guide at the attraction's entrance and slip past the crowds with skip-the-line tickets, heading straight inside to explore its most important ruins and hear the stories of this ancient city brought to life. After your guided visit, enjoy some free time to relax and grab lunch at your own pace.

Back on the coach, take in views of the Amalfi Coast as you head further south. See where the coastline meets mountains and the charming villages that dot them.

Arrive in Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi coast, and spend time exploring its charming streets, boutique shops, and seaside views before settling back in for a comfortable return to Rome, arriving in the evening.

Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable, had answers before questions were asked. It was hot so dress light and bring a fan. All needs were provided. I highly recommend.

Pompeii review

Todd_C, Sep 2026
Excellent trip our guide made it worth of money, beautiful scenery, kind of lengthy travel, but worth it. Had a few problems with our buses and a couple of little things that was not the guides fault, but other than that, everything went perfectly.

Kelly_H, Sep 2026
Great overview of positano and Pompeii, good sized group and tour guide was very knowledgeable. I would definitely want to go back to Positano again.

Powerful Day Trip

Michelle_L, Sep 2026
Our guide was very knowledgeable about Pompeii and Natasha on the bus was very helpful and informative. Even though it was hot and a long day Pompeii was amazing and so was the 'taste' of Positano.

Good trip! Very long ride but beautiful views.

Leah_R, Sep 2026
Good but you are in the bus/van more than out of it. Pompeii was very interesting however only saw one body (thought we would see more). Lemoncello factory was cute. Positano was amazing to walk around and the views were breathtaking. All in all a good trip but my personal preference would have been to skip the lemoncello factory and spend more time at either Positano or Pompeii. Buses and vans were very nice and spacious and our guide, Michele, was great!

History & Beautiful Scenery

Patrice_B, Sep 2026
They should know that the travel guide Michaela was so nice explaining where we will be dropped off and picked up, she gave wonderful commentary. The archeologist guide Nick in Pompeii was humorous and informative, make the hours in hot sun not so bad. He was a delight.

Well worth it's value

Alexander_F, Sep 2026
Great experience! At times it felt like we were pressed on time but it was worth it because we got to do a lot of stuff throughout the day and everything was planned so we wouldn't be waiting or doing nothing. We had great food and the views were spectacular. Our guides were wonderful too, Michela our main guide was awesome, our driver Manny was the best driver we had in Rome and Mauro was an excellent guide at Pompei Ruind very knowledgeable and very patient. I would definitely recommend this tour if you can squeeze in the full 13 hours.

Loooooong day. Pack ur own food. No time to get at store.

crystal_c, Sep 2026
The bus ride was my least favorite. Squished like sardines in the back and no one likes if you switch on the way back (but we did anyhow). At the end of Pompeii you do NOT have enough time to eat. Don’t bother. Pack snacks and a drink. Pompeii was awesome. Positano was great too. Beautiful to see but SUPER squished because the sidewalks and roads are narrow and toooooo many people. Protip: eat here because no time in Pompeii. I’m positano you could tell the locals don’t like the tourists in though. All in all was a good trip to do once. but exhausting.

Great Day Excursion, Minus the Lemoncello Factory

Xochitl_S, Sep 2026
I love this day excursion, it was my 2nd time and didn’t disappoint. Our bus guide Mariuz was funny and super knowledgeable, he made it fun on the bus. Our guide in Pompeii was great as well. However I think that the stop at the lemoncello factory should be omitted from this tour, this would give us more time in Positano to walk around, shop, eat or even just sit at the beach. Not enough time in Positano unfortunately.

Not worth it to me

Zman, Sep 2026
Bus had to little legroom (no legroom, I had to put my feet in the aisle and I am only 5 ft 10 in). Could not understand the guide in Pompey (I understood about 70%, my wife less than 20%). The guide on the bus, Klir, was good. Positano was good but would not have enough time if you really wanted to explore everything, but that was no unexpected. My biggest disappointment was the cramped seats on the bus.

Response from Host, Sep 2026

Hi Zman, Thank you for your honest feedback. We’re sorry the cramped bus seating and difficulty hearing the Pompeii guide affected your experience. We’re glad to hear Klir was helpful and that you enjoyed Positano. We truly appreciate your comments and will take them into consideration as we work to improve the experience for our guests.

Fun Time

Reagan_L, Sep 2026
We were unsure of what to do with our free day. We scheduled this two days in advance and it was such a blast to go and see the ruins of Pompeii and the beautiful Amalfi Coast. The tour guide was very helpful in giving ideas on how best to use your day.

Great tour

Pompei, Possitano

Jelena_M, Sep 2026
Mari was one of our guides. While all our tours I rate 5* for this one I give 3*. This is not because the tour was bad, it was amazing. But, it was too much packed in one day which I don’t recommend. If you are heading for a long road to Amalfi coast, you need at least a day. We had only 1.5 hrs which is nothing but to take photos and get back. Pompei took majority of the day - incredible to see it on a separate day. The pit stops at the Cassino was poor. Limoncello factory (yes, included as an extra stop to change in vans) was very short. All in all, Mari, our guide was incredible and tumbs up to her and Berta at the Pompei. Hope this is helpful.

Response from Host, Sep 2026

Hi Jelena, Thank you for your detailed feedback! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the tour and that Mari and Berta made such a great impression. We understand your comments about the packed itinerary and limited time in Amalfi. We appreciate your helpful suggestions and will share them with our team.

Best way to experience these places from Rome

Tawanda_S, Sep 2026
Amazing and the best way to see Pompei and Positano from Rome. The coaches are very comfortable and makes the long rides to and from manageable. Amazing guides. Wear comfortable walking shoes and if its summer get a hat with big veranda and portable fan if possible.

Klir and our driver, Enrico, were amazing ! Klir was so engaging and really informative about all our destinations. She kept everyone so organized, and made the entire trip super enjoyable. It’s a long day, but so worth it the trip.

Beautiful and scenic with some history

Sumit_T, Aug 2026
Long bus rides and couple of places to view in short time, but a fun ride. Laura and Marco are great company as our own tour guide and driver

Sit back and enjoy the trip

Fay_W, Aug 2026
I loved that the entire trip is organised from start to finish and someone else’s responsibility. All we had to do was get on the coach, sit back and enjoy the trip.

Thomas_E, Aug 2026
Pompeii is absolutely amazing to see. Sorrento was fun to see. You will wish you had more time at both, but they are squeezing both into one trip. Sorrento is very busy. The limoncello factory was great.

Fun day!

Christine_H, Aug 2026
Our tour guide Rob was amazing! He was incredibly informative as well as extremely entertaining. Pompeii was a great experience and Positano was beautiful. Highly recommend!

A worthwhile long day

Marilyn_C, Aug 2026
We were at the meeting point before 8 am and returned at 10pm. This tour is worthwhile for visiting Pompeii and Positano in a day. Both are amazing places to visit. Patricia is an excellent and enthusiastic guide, explained thoroughly what to expect, and kept the big group of about 60 together. Our bus driver was skilled at navigating narrow roads. The only thing that can improve is the overpriced 18 Euro lunch which was a personal pizza or pasta and a soda and a sfogliatella. We have had much better ones in Rome. The pizza lacked flavor, the pasta was overcooked/not al dente, and the sfogliatella had very little filling inside. But it was what was available and quick to get. No other alternatives for lunch. Everything else on this tour was perfect!

I thought the guide was...

Theresa_R, Aug 2026
I thought the guide was excellent but was very disappointed in the limoncello stop. It took away from the stop at Positano. An hour and a half is not long enough when it takes nearly 50 minutes to get to and from the base of the bus stop. If you need it for bus changes, do the change and be done. Very disappointing.

Great day!

Laurie_K, Aug 2026
Very long day- bring extra phone charger and snacks for the bus! The bus to positano is very windey and so my kids got very nauseous. Pauola and Luca were amazing!

Great long day trip outside Rome

Andrei_S, Aug 2026
Great experience visiting remote places in a day. Guide at Pompeii is fantastic, very interesting to listen and answered every questions! Highly recommend this tour!
