Trip was cancelled and option did not fit our schedule. We booked the same tour with another company

The tour was really good and informative. The quality of the coach was great. The drivers knowledge was great. 3 little things I personally did not like. 1: I was not aware that the tour was 2 tours with a 90 minute break in between until the day. Was a very long day and had I been aware of this I would not of booked this one instead done the city tour in the morning and the Muir woods on another day. 2: I had the front seat and my son and his dad the seat behind. At one stage my son asked me some questions and I turned to answer him when the driver turned to me and said 'Im trying to run a tour'. If he felt I was abit loud he could of asked me to talk in a lower tone however I really confident that I did not talk loud. Suffice to say people behind us were talking really loud. I was left feeling like I could not talk at all for the remainder of the tour and this really impacted my ability to enjoy myself. 3: On departure from Saucilito we were told the coach would leave at 6. We literally got the departure point at 6 and the driver drove us with us waving madly at him to no avail. We were left with no option but to find alternative arrangements to get back into San Francisco. Perhaps drivers should say you must be back by 5.45pm as I will depart at 6 on the dot.

Both tour guides were knowledgeable and did a great showing the sites. The weather was perfect in San Fran so the tour guide took us to Baker Beach to see another view of the Golden Gate Bridge which was an extra bonus. Great navigating and driving by both tour guides. Highly recommended tour!

I understand the restrictions on the tour by the National Park Service, but thought I was booking one long tour, not 2 short tours. There was quite a bit of overlap.

My sister & I had just 3 days in San Francisco, & chose this tour to cover off highlights of the city & 2 sights often recommended by friends & family. Thoroughly enjoyed the day - 0900 to 1830hrs! Many thanks to Hocine, our bus driver, whose passion, enthusiasm, humour & knowledge contributed towards a great day! 😃

MANY things went wrong with this tour, I will try to summarize. After reading all the good reviews I decided to try this tour. The tour was supposed to start at 9 a.m. and include a city tour, Muir Woods and Sausalito. The day before leaving I got an email saying the tour will now begin at 2:00. Considering that is when the tour was to end, I was upset but it was still OK. I checked in at 1:00 and the clerk said "now just like this morning..." and I stopped him there asking what he meant by this morning when my email said 2:00. Apparently the tour of the city still began at 9:00 but then there was a huge break before going to Muir. The clerk was nice enough to refund me some of the money without hassle so I was still OK but upset that I came into town the night before and paid a crazy amount for a hotel so I could be there at 9:00 but whatever. The clerk informed me at check-in that at 1:45 we would get on the bus and he would come out to assist us in the boarding process. At 2:15, having heard nothing at all from anyone on where our bus was, the clerk finally came out and said the driver hit traffic and would be at least 20 more minutes. Really, traffic in San Fran? Go figure. How he didn't account for this I do not know. The clerk should have been out talking to us at 1:45, not after a half hour of us all waiting and wondering what was going on.We boarded the bus, which was clean and comfortable. After about 5 minutes into the tour by the most monotoned person I have ever heard, he mentions that we are not able to go to Muir Woods because they are only sporadically open due to the government shut down. We all took the tour for Muir Woods yet no one on the bus knew we were not actually going there. The driver assured us we would still see Red Woods but from a different park. The park turned out to be in the middle of a neighborhood and he dropped us there, said he would be back in 1 hr and 15 minutes and left us with nothing to do. We saw nothing but pines in an average, regular neighborhood. We asked the bus driver about the trees and told him how upset we were over the whole situation. He empathized but had no solution and told us what we thought were pine trees were really the red woods, second generation. We got to Sausalito at 5:00, the town closes down at 6:00. Boring town with only a few expensive shops. Overall waste of money and 5 hours. Very boring tour host on top of everything else.

We were only in San Francisco for a day and a half so this was a great way to see a ton of stuff. Our guides were great and extremely knowledgeable. The buses were super comfy and I was very impressed with the skills of the drivers.

Six of our family members on a cruise were booked for this tour. We were supposed to leave at 9:30 and arranged an Uber to pick us up at the pier. Unfortunately, the port had a problem with the gangway, so we weren't allowed off the ship until nearly 10:00 a.m. Since our tour had already left before us, we went to the Gray Line Office in town and explained our dilemma. The person there, although very friendly and apologetic, booked us on a substitute for the morning, a Hop On Hop Off bus so we could find our way to the sights we wanted to see. Our Muir Woods/Sausalito trip was still booked for the afternoon, so we left the office and went to catch a Hop On Hop Off bus. We waited for an hour and although some came by, no one got off, so there were no seats for us. Then we waited nearly another hour, and finally got on a bus, but there were only four available seats up top, so I sat on the bottom, where I could see nothing because of the window covering down below. This bus took us to the Golden Gate, let us off, and then we had to get another bus going back into town. We got to see very little, where the original Super Saver tour we were booked on included a city tour. It was our first time in San Francisco, and we were very disappointed. At the bus stops, we saw about three times as many Hop On Hop Off buses run by other companies, but our tickets were for Gray Line, which were few and far between. We did go to Muir Woods and Sausalito in the late afternoon, and this was a wonderful excursion with the most knowledgeable driver/guide ever ,but the morning was a waste of our time and money. I will never recommend the Gray Line HopOn HopOff to anyone visiting SanFrancisco. I've been trying to contact Viator to inquire about a refund, but have been unable to do it online, so I will be calling them. I do highly recommend Muir Woods and Sausalito.

In the morning we took the city tour with Antonio who was AWESOME. After our trip to the Golden Gate Bridge the fog rolled in and covered some of the regular tour stops so Anthonio adjusted and took us to some of his personal favorites where most tour buses did not stop. As a result we saw some amazing sites and enjoyed Antonio's sense of humor throughout the entire morning. A must do tour when in San Fran. In the afternoon we took the Muir Woods and Sausalito tour with Josh who was equally as informative and entertaining as Antonio. He too, was full of information from the beginning of the tour until the moment he dropped us off at the end. We loved this tour... walking amongst the giant coastal redwoods was almost spiritual. Photos and videos do not do these majestic giants justice. You need to see these in person and this tour is the way to do it.
Kim_C, Aug 2018
I bought the combo tour with the understanding that the tours would be one right after the other. That was not the case. We had a two and a half hour wait in between city tour and Muir Woods. This messed up our evening plans but we didn't complain and went along with the obvious fact that they do not wait on your morning tour to get back they just leave if they can sell the seats and stick you on the last tour.
City Tour: We took in the morning. The driver was nice but we did not go some places because of the fog he said. The tour also leads you to believe you will see Lombard Street. Well you see it as you drive by and the driver tells you that just over the hill is the famous part( which you can't see). Hmmm. There was a baby in the very front seat who cried constantly. This made it so others could not even hear the narrative of the driver. The driver did not ask them to kindly move to the back but instead tried to goo goo ga ga the baby himself to be quiet. REALLY ? We also were accosted by snooty Pacific Heights residents who would not allow the bus down the street. Maybe not the drivers fault but we did not regain the 15 minutes of our tour that we lost while they had to call the police to settle the dispute. No apology from the company either. I felt sorry for the driver because he was trying to show us something else instead of Twin Peaks .
To sum up city tour: BORING, ANNOYING, MISLEADING.
Here is my biggest gripe.
I spent nearly five hundred dollars with this company yet they will not let you use a restroom in their office. They sent me two blocks to a public restroom at the Westin instead. Don't these people pee ? How insulting. When I informed the bus driver that I had to use the restroom and would return. He was very snappy saying he was leaving in 20 minutes. Nice . I had not planned on walking two blocks to use the restroom. I barely made it back. Then an afternoon ride that was so hot and stuffy that my son nearly passed out. Outlets on bus we were told do not work which led me to wonder if the air worked at all. Bus driver commented that
Geni W, Jul 2018
The drivers were both good and friendly. There was plenty of time at each stop to see and do anything we wanted to do. We did this tour our first day so we could decide what to do the rest of the trip. Greg (city tour) recommended several places to eat and they ended up all to be great. Definitely get the clam chowder at the Cliff House! The Sausalito trip was not worth the stop.
Mario_S, May 2018
It was a good experienced. Our tour guide Randy is very accommodating and entertaining. He got a lot of tips on places to go to eat, what is the best restaurant, etc. The Muir Woods experience is the best. Totally recommending this tour.
Linda C, Mar 2018
The tours were great especially the Muir Woods. Taking both tours on the same day was a bit much and I would split it into two days.
Meghan M, Mar 2018
The tour itself was good you get to see a lot of the city and Muir Woods is amazing but I found the organization of the tour to be very poor compared to other tours I have taken throughout the USA and Europe. We were told we would be picked up from our hotel at 8 am - the bus was 20 mins late I understand that it happens sometimes but a call or text would have been nice as we waited outside in the cold for 30 mins and were beginning to think we were going to miss our tour and the bus was completely different colours from what we were told to look for green and white vs blue and grey. You're then dropped off at the main office the tour does not start right away after the hotel pick ups. It was absolute chaos at their main office in the morning where all of the tours depart from with people and buses everywhere and nobody tourists or the people working seemed to know where to go. There was no stop at Golden Gate Park as indicated in the description just a drive through it. Also important to note that it says it is an 8 hour tour but the tour started at 9 am and did not end until 7 pm we had expected to have more time to ourselves in the evening. You return to the main office and switch buses and guides between the city tour and Muir Woods tour which we were not expecting. Both of our guides were very good however our guide for Muir Woods had a strong accent and it was difficult to understand him, particularly as he was speaking through a microphone on a moving bus which was unfortunate as he was a very nice man and very knowledgeable. Overall I'm glad we did the tour as it allowed us to see a lot in one day but I would not book this tour again knowing what I know now.
Becky_O, Feb 2018
the day of the tour we discovered it was actually two separate tours so had a break in between. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge each time and travelled some of the same city streets. Because of that, we spent more time on the bus than we had expected. Each of the guides were knowledgeable and shared interesting stories and information. The tour showed us the varied areas of the city . This was the perfect way to see Muir Woods - no worries about driving the winding roads or parking. We could have skipped the Sausalito stop. It was late in the day and very overcast and cool outside. there wasn't enough time to do more than walk the street.
Louise R, Jan 2018
The city tour was great, I have been on it many times before as we come here once a year. Traveling with friends I convinced them this was a must as it covers everything. As always the tour was great,e were gifted with a sunny morning and Antoine took us to several great spots to see the bridge. Loved the Muir Woods tour what a wonderful miracle one hour out of the city. Saulslatio pretty but would prefer to speed shorter time there. Joe our driver was very informative, kind enough to accommodate everyone, but seasoned enough to keep everyone on time making the trip especially nice.
Catherine_A, Jan 2018
This was a wonderful way to see the city of San Francisco. It was very informative yet informal and nicely customized for our small group covering a wide variety of locations and sights in the area. We enjoyed the number of photo/exploration stops and had just the right amount of time at each. Josh and Randy were stellar guides!
Lynette B, Dec 2017
The Woods were incredible, but the tour was late getting started so by the time we got to Sausalito most shops were closing for the day and there really wasn’t much to do for the 45 minutes we stopped there.
Caroline U, Nov 2017
My tour in Muir woods and Sausalito was by Grayline. It was beautiful and I had the time to reflect on the Lord's wonderful creations like the sturdy trees in Muir woods. The tour was more beautiful because of our tour guide Thomas that was in October 22. Thomas was also our guide in our Monterey and Carmel by the Sea in October 20. He takes good care of his tourists and he treats them like a member of his family. He explains well and speaks clearly. Thomas is an asset in your travel industry.
Bernadette S, Oct 2017
Was an excellent tour, in particular the Muir Woods component of the tour. Would highly recommend.
Bruce H, Oct 2017
This tour is great if you only have a couple days in San Francisco. You get to see a lot and you were given lots of photo opportunities.
NORMAN_E, Oct 2017
This was a most enjoyable day. Our drivers were very informative and masterful behind the wheel. On our trip to and from Muir Woods, Don was especially informative as he grew up in that area and had all sorts of colorful stories of the area over the years.
Jacqueline J, Oct 2017
The tour was great. However I was not picked up from the hotel as promised. The customer service was lacking - no one answered the phone and when I arrived at the tour office the staff were not concerned that I was not picked up.
Dianne R, Sep 2017
Our driver was very knowledgable and friendly. He went above and beyond to give us great helpful tips. The weather was perfect and we had a great time.
Cleve M, Sep 2017
I really enjoyed this tour of the city and of Muir Woods and Sausalito, but what made it most memorable was the excellent service provided by my guide/driver Robert W., who conducted the Muir Woods part of the tour. I made the horrible mistake of leaving my Canon DSLR camera on the bench near the entrance of Muir Woods and didn't notice it until we were nearing the next stop. Robert took my information and found a way to make contact with park attendants and learned that my camera had been turned in by an un-named kind soul and I was able to retrieve it the next day. Robert was not only a great tour guide, but a very professional and thoughtful person, who gave me his personal phone so that we could stay in touch all the way through the process. Gray Lines should be proud to have such person working for them and providing customer care that goes well beyond what it typical. My hat is off to him.
Polina B, Aug 2017
The first part of the tour - the city tour was awful - huge bus full - 54 people for 56 seatsin a town with tiny streets - 2 stops to take pictures that were 7 or 8 minutes long. The second part of the tour - Muir Woods and Sausalito - different smaller bus an a wonderful driver was amazing. Gave extra time to take pictures and made a special stop to take everyone to their hotel. Also suggested and stopped at the cable car stop for us.
HAYWARD G, Aug 2017
This city tour was a fabulous way to view the city. Our tour guide was very informative of the sights. The bus was comfortable and accommodating. Muir Woods was breathtaking and Sausalito was an excellent place to spend the afternoon. We opted for staying longer and taking the ferry back to Pier 39. The trip was delightful and memorable.
My only complaint was the bus station downtown. Even though the staff was friendly and helpful, the office was too small to filter the number of people waiting to board. It was confusing as to which bus to board. With an organization of this size and the volume it handles everyday, it would more beneficial to house this station in a larger area in order to board easier without the traffic of the city streets.
jfelker3, Aug 2017
We loved our comprehensive tour of San Francisco including Muir Woods and Sausalito. Our guides pointed out so many interesting sights and gave lots of interesting details. I have to say our afternoon guide for Muir Woods and Sausalito was the best!!! I believe his name was Robert. You could tell he genuinely loved his job. He sang motown and he was very enthusiastic and fun. He had a great sense of humour and even when our tour bus was overheating he stayed calm, cool and collected and continued stating all the facts about Muir Woods without batting an eyelash. True professionalism. When the bus stalled he said Mama said there'd be days like these and he said it calmly, got out of the bus and called the office to let them know about the troubles he was experiencing. He got right back on the bus and got us to Muir Woods safely, put some water in the rad and solved the issue. We felt the time at Muir Woods was ample and loved seeing the big trees and smelling the wonderful scent of redwoods. We even saw a deer in the park. Sausalito was very pretty and we enjoyed a stroll and an ice cream there. The golden gate bridge was definitely a hightlight of the tour as well. When we saw the bridge in the morning there was a fair bit of fog so it was so nice when our afternoon guide took us there again to see the bridge after the fog had lifted. Again the time spent there for photos was more than ample. I would highly recommend this tour! We felt like we saw more than most people would see in 2-3 days.
