Muir Woods National Monument and the village of Sausalito are two of the most popular things to do north of San Francisco. This convenient tour from the city makes it easy to check off both from your list, plus includes a San Francisco Bay cruise for even more photo ops.

Your morning starts with a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, where you’ll stop to take in views from Vista Point on your way to Muir Woods. Enjoy ample time to walk along paths through the forest of old-growth coastal redwoods, known for being some of the oldest and tallest trees in the world.

Then head to Sausalito, a picturesque small town nestled between the Marin Headlands and San Francisco Bay on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Take a walk on the waterfront, grab a snack (own expense) or check out the art galleries and shops. Once back in San Francisco, board your Bay Cruise departing from Pier 39.

Your narrated cruise takes you underneath the Golden Gate Bridge (weather permitting) and past Alcatraz Island. Enjoy views of the city skyline and the local sea lions, and then end your tour with a drop-off at Pier 39.

Our bus tour guide, Danny, was full of historical anecdotes and humor. Very personable, and detailed about the events of the day. Muir Woods is breathtaking and if you’re a hiker and have the time, schedule time to do some of the longer hikes. We heard the above canopy (Mt. Tamalpais) was extra special but 2 hours more than we had. We opted for the Pier 29 ferry, though, and it was great. We saw a whale’s spout, went under the Golden Gate Bridge, which the bus had gone across, so we got great views of I and Alcatraz, and the city views were great since we had a sunny day.

Great but left behind in Saulsalito

The begining of the trip was great starting with the Golden gate bridge. Then heading to Muir Woods. The park was amazing but limited time there (which jappens for everyone not just the tour). Then we made our way back to Sausalito where we got to hangout for an hour at least our driver told us.. He must not have counted right or didn't care to wait a minute or less because we were spot on time but he left us. So luckly we were able to get onto a ferry back to the bay area otherwise it would have been a $60.00 Uber ride back. The driver was knowledgable but barely could hear him 3 rows back. We were just not impressed about being left behind. Other than that it was a great expirence.

Really enjoyed Muir Woods and the boat ride around the bay. I would return again.. I would recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes and a coat. We were there in January..

I had a very nice trip. Muir woods is a great place to visit with good energy. Sausalito has its own vibe of peace and quietness. I also enjoyed so much my 1-hour bay cruise. The company offered very good service with a reasonable price.

Muir woods was amazing, I wish we could have stayed longer. In Sausalito the driver told us to be back in an hour. I set my alarm on my phone for 55 minutes and came right back to where the bus should have been and it was gone with all my stuff aboard. We got our stuff back the next day but the situation caused a lot of stress.

Redwoods rule

Early morning the way to go. Much less crowded. Both parts of trip were great. Bundle up in the fall, it's a bit chilly, especially on the windy bay.

Good tour but more time needed in Sausalito

Everything was fine other than the fact that not enough time was allotted for Sausalito. We were there from 11 till noon, too early for lunch. Had we been there from 11 till 1, we could have had lunch and still had time to walk around and shop.

Beautiful trip! Great tour guide, super comfy bus, smooth ride! The trees and nature were healing and awe inspiring. Had delicious Peach Bellini's and champagne overlooking the ocean in Sausalito, it was perfect😍 and the bay cruise was a nice little trip around the bridge and back. Super convenient way to see the bridge, Muir Woods and Sausalito. Our driver was very impressive navigating the large bus through the windy roads while providing interesting commentary. Bay tour was nice, but the guide was a recording. Probably would have enjoyed a more interactive in-person guide, similar to the bus portion. Overall, really enjoyed.

It was great! Joseph was an excellent tour guide and driver and he gave us fun facts as we left San Fran and made our way to Muir Woods! We even stopped at the Golden Gate Bridge, which I did not expect and was pleasantly surprised by! The stop allowed us to snap pics and to use the restrooms. As we drove into Muir Woods Joseph told us about the trees and wildlife. Muir Woods was phenomenal! It was showering but it just made it atmospheric! There were various paths and the main ones has wood boardwalks. I throughly enjoyed my 90 mins at Muir Woods. Sausalito was great too! Joseph gave us recommendations on various food places and we went to the Mexican restaurant. It was a great time and I was very glad we booked a tour. I highly recommend!

Tall people should avoid this tour

I am a tall person and the bus/van used for this tour was ridiculously cramped and uncomfortable, not to mention dirty. As a general rule, being packed into a small space like sardines makes for a physically unpleasant and potentially unsafe experience. If Grayline cannot offer a comfortable mode of transport, they should not be selling tours. Furthermore, the time allotted to explore Muir Woods and Sausalito was insufficient. We didn't realize that most of the tour was "on our own" and unguided. Very disappointing experience.

Muir Woods is remarkable though the tour is not. Advertised as a tour lasting 3 hours in Muir Woods (we were there 2). We were supposed to be in Saulsilito for two hours and we were there for 1 1/2 hours. The driver gave directions once, if asked to repeat he became irritated and never gave the info. The pickup instructions and location didn’t coincide with texts/emails and the location was difficult to identify. Finally I thought I had purchased a package that I could take the ferry back to Saulsilito at my leisure not take an hour cruise departing from Pier 39, did this yesterday. Again confusing description on product.

The Muir Woods were absolutely stunning and breathe taken! Loved the e ancient feel of the trees and the forest! The Sausalito tour was beautiful in itself and had great food and tourist shops! Tour was amazing nice coach bus. Driver was excellent, friendly, informative and professional. Muir woods was Serene a magnificent experience, Sausalito was a nice experience as well. Our driver recommended a restaurant and it was a good choice, Bay cruise was lovely as well, seeing the GGB from dry land earlier that morning and then on water the afternoon, was excellent. It was a great option to be able to have the flexibility of doing the bay cruise whenever u like (good to use up to 2 weeks after initial) Just a bit cold for us Floridians :) but it was a great tour overall.

Party good - Palace of Fine Arts, Golden Gate Bridge and Muir Woods are all spectacular and well worth the visit. This tour was an effective way to see them all, and our driver provided knowledgeable commentary about the city and some of its history. Partly not good - The bus smelled and was not clean, the driver had a terrible cough/sore throat and blamed allergies, might have been better for him to take a sick day. There are two ferry lines between Saucelito and SF and he gave us the schedule and info for the one we didn't have tickets for. The ferries dock at two different places.

I was born and raised in SF. Living in SF for 35 years I regret to say I had never visited Muir Woods. The woods have such a Jurrasic and Magestic feeling and appearance. The tour guide/driver was extremely knowledgeable and I learned a few things about SF I never knew. All in all great day. Our tour guide however was very unapproachable and seemed bothered to answer simple questions by all guests perhaps he was having a bad day as we were forwarned by the Initial check In attendant.

You won’t regret going to Muir Woods. I’ve never been someplace so serene, and beautiful. The bay cruise was so incredible. We didn’t have time to go inside Alcatraz but we went around the island. You won’t regret this tour!

A great combination of a walk in the woods and a bay cruise afterwards

Muir Woods is definitely worth a visit it’s so peaceful and such a lovely walk. I could have easily have stayed all day but only allowing 90 minutes is a good thing and let’s everyone see it without it becoming overcrowded. Michelle our guide that day was very knowledgeable and she tells you all you need to know and more. The bay cruise was an hour of amazing views of San Francisco, The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Some views you only see from a boat. A really good tour.
