The tour guide and driver...

Bernadette_K, Apr 2026
The tour guide and driver (Walter) are wonderful! Joey, the tour guide is so knowledgeable and provides details about Alexandria and Mt. Vernon's history that were entertaining and informative. When you visit the education center at the end of the Mt. Vernon tour, go first to the theaters to get more history on the war and Washington. The museum is great, but didn't see theater until end so we wish we had more time

Felt rushed through Mount...

Pamela_V, Apr 2026
Felt rushed through Mount Vernon gardens and mansion. When it's time to board the bus to return to DC, tour leader needs to stand outside the bus so we can see her to know which bus to board

Excellent experience

Karen_T, Mar 2026
We has Joey as our guide and Leah as our driver. They were both superb. Leah is an excellent driver and Joey was so informative and just very pleasant to be around. My mother and I had a wonderful time.

Our tour guide...

Melodee_J, Oct 2025
Our tour guide Christopher, and driver Kareem, were terrific. We learned a lot of history and really enjoyed seeing the actual home and belongings of our first President. Walking around the property, seeing the gardens, out buildings, and tomb was enlightening. Contemplating the lives of the slaves was a somber element as well.

Visit to Mt Vernon

Mary_E, Oct 2025
Was a convenient way to visit Mt Vernon from DC and Joey was so full of interesting history and details during the ride over and back and facilitated all the highlights of George Washington’s family home. Kareem’s driving was comfortable and on time. Great value for your time and money.

My parents did this tour and loved it. They learned a lot at Mt Vernon and in Alexandria.Thank you!!

Response from Host, Apr 2025

We are glad you had a good time on tour!

Lackluster

Jamie_A, Apr 2025
I would not recommend taking this tour on a Sunday or until 2026. While we stopped at the Church in Alexandria it was just a stop because there are active services on Sunday, no other stops in Alexandria - Alexandria is more of a drive through. Mt. Vernon is closed for remodeling and you can only view 2 rooms and the kitchen. We did not get to see the gardens, etc. even with the limited house tour the tour seemed rushed and unorganized. More focus on the “enslaved” people vs. George Washington and family. The guide mentioned several times that she hasn’t done this tour in a while so someone probably called out sick today. I do not feel that we got any benefit by being with a tour group. The free audio tour would have been sufficient vs the $300+ we paid for this lackluster experience.

Disappointing

Graham_H, Mar 2025
We were very disappointed with this and feel that there should be some sort of refund. Firstly the Viator info for this tour said that we would have 4 hours Mount Vernon and 1 hour around Old Town Alexandria. This is not correct - we stopped briefly on the way to Mount Vernon to see a church in Alexandria and that was our only time there. We mentioned this to the guide at the sgtart and she said that we could get off the bus and get a refund, but we wanted to see Mount Vernon. We then got to Mount Vernon to find that 75% of the house is under reconstruction or being refurbished so you don't have access to it. There was a note on the website saying 'some areas were not accessible' but we were not expecting 75%! We only got to see one room in the house. This should be made much clearer if you are going to ask for that much money. We definately feel there should be some kind of refund. Would welcome your thoughts on this?

Response from Host, Apr 2025

We completely understand your disappointment. First, regarding Mt Vernon's restoration, the wording on the website is more vague because the page has to apply to all those booking whether next week or next year. Their restoration is a multi-year project with various stages culminating in the "America 250" event next summer. Ultimately, the estate itself has not discounted their ticket price during this time so it has not influenced the tour price. Regarding the Alexandria portion, however, we apologize for the crassness of the guide and are currently improving the itinerary to allow more time in Old Town during this restoration period.

Worth going !!!

Lazka_G, Mar 2025
Amazing experience! Worth going even though is going through refurbishment of the property. Our tour guide Terry was incredible. Very knowledgable and patient. My kids (3 and 6) loved it. Its a trip worth doing if visiting Washington D.C. Stepping into so much history. Can't wait to go back!

Oldtown/Mt vernon

Nicole_R, Mar 2025
There was a funeral at Christ Church so we could not see it in Old Town, without it stopping there seemed like a waste of time. Mt Vernon was great but most of the mansion is closed until next year. This tour was expensive for what we got.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

We understand and thank you for the feedback.

Guide Joey is fun! Memorable trip! Don't miss.

Lizette_H, Jan 2025
Joey our guide and Antonio our driver were amazingly fun. We really enjoyed the tour. The bus was comfortable and Joey guiding us with storytelling was fun. My husband had a bad knee so we wouldn't have been able to wander and stumble on things. Joey hit all of the highlights. It was a very memorable experience for us. George Washington is awe inspiring and we can't believe we made this trip and it should not be skipped if you're from out of town.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thank you for joining us on tour! We are so glad that you enjoyed traveling with Joey and Antonio!

A Great Time

Elizabeth_C, Dec 2024
We enjoyed our tour guide Joey, she was very knowledgeable and fun very engaging. Had a nice relaxing time and got to enjoy the experience

Great experience

Victoria_M, Nov 2024
Joey and Witney were amazing. Joey had incredible tips that if we had went by ourselves we would never known. The small van was super warm and the general visit was lovely. The vibe when you enter the house is amazing, knowing that he actually lived there it’s super cool. Unfortunately the complete house it’s not open until the 2026 and that made Joeys tips and knowledge very valuable. Thanks!

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thanks for coming and we hope to see you return to Mt Vernon when the house restoration is complete!

Very comfortable minibus...

Ruth_S, Nov 2024
Very comfortable minibus with just one other passenger. Very informative and friendly tour guide. Most of Mount Vernon is closed for refurbishment but we looked around the grounds and spent longer in Old Town.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

We completely understand the disappointment and also can't wait for the mansion to be fully restored for the 250th anniversary of the USA in 2026!

Wonderful time

Mary_E, Nov 2024
We had a great time. Only shame was the mansion is under renovation. Would have liked to spend a little more time in Old Town Alexandria and be able to get off at the church and the Gatsby.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

We understand the disappointment at the partial closure due to renovation, but we hope you come back in 260th to see the restoration for the 250th on July 4th!

Tour of Mt Vernon and Alexandria from Washington DC by USA guided tours on 11.16.2024

Usha_P, Nov 2024
It felt like we're taken back to 1700s. Lifestyle of First president of United states of USA. Agriculture was backbone of economy .it fed family and nation .from live stock came clothes and milk and meat. Entertainment was essentials . Every slave and guests were respected for their expertise. Loved it even more due to all information and nitty gritty details shared by our tour guide Christopher .

Response from Host, Jan 2025
