The Guide, Joey, and the driver of the tour bus, Richard, were geat; Joey was very knowledgeable, was very courteous and was a terrific guide. Our driver Richard also did a great job. You should be proud to have such wonderful employees.

Unsafe

Lindsay_S, Jul 2026
Very disappointing and unsafe. Would absolutely not recommend. 1) Tour description doesn’t match reality. Description says 4 hours at Mount Vernon. We weren’t even there a full 3. Got there at 11:30, left before 2:30. Tour felt very rushed. We had very little time to see the mansion and the grounds. In addition to the time, no where in the tour description does it say that food and drink are not permitted on the bus. We had both food and drink with us and were told to chug our brand new Starbucks order before we could board. It’s over 100 degrees in DC with extremely high humidity and not being able to eat or drink in this weather is dangerous. Our son chugged his cold Starbucks drink and then naturally needed to use the restroom. There’s no restrooms on the bus and we were told the first stop would be Mount Vernon in 35 minutes. Instead they did the Old Town Alexandria tour first and the first stop was almost an hour later so our son nearly had an accident waiting for a bathroom. My wife had to be seen by the Mount Vernon medics as she nearly had a heat stroke. They’ve got people crammed into lines waiting outside in sweltering heat and humidity. Nothing has AC on the house grounds except the mansion in *some* rooms and with an ever revolving open door, it wasn’t that cool inside and worse claustrophobic with the sheer number of hot bodies crammed into small spaces. As a result of my wife being attended to by the medics we saw very little of Mount Vernon. After seeing the medics we went to the cafe to get food as at this point it’s nearly 2 pm with no food or drink (other than a small bottled water provided) that was supposed to hold us over from morning in extreme weather?! 2) In addition, the windshield of the bus had a huge crack across the front, the driver braked hard and at one point hit a pothole and literally sent people airborne (myself and my kids included). And the AC was mediocre at best in the bus. It was very stuffy. In closing, the tour was not 4 hours at Mount Vernon— it was very much rushed and shorter than described. We were withheld from having food or drink in extreme weather for over 4 hours and the condition of the bus was unsafe and uncomfortable.

The bus left without us!

Jill_S, Jun 2026
The traffic was terrible in DC the morning of our tour. The tour guy called and I informed her that we were on our way, but stuck in traffic and would be there in five minutes. I was told the bus would leave exactly at 10 AM we arrived at our destination at 10 AM and we’re walking across the plaza to get on the bus and it left us. We had to pay $100 to Uber out to Mount Vernon and were then able to find the tour and join it at that time. The tour guide was great and the bus driver was nice but when we left, we were told to meet at 2:30. The bus didn’t leave until 240 so they gave leeway leaving Mount Vernon but they gave us no leeway leaving DC. I would not at this time, recommend this tour.

Very Informative and Well Run.

Travs_G, Jun 2026
No warning about traveling with the top of the van down exposing the customers to the sun and wind. Then when they put up the top on the way back, it was hotter because the van had inadequate AC.

Our tour guide was great. The pick up and drop off location was so easy to get to, and the tour itself was a lot of fun. We had a great time on this tour!

Meh…OK But Could’ve Been Much Better

Gina_L, May 2026
Mt. Vernon was great-very interesting but there was not ample time to see everything there. Alexandria was more of a quick side note, though we were able to exit the bus to see the church George Washington attended. We expected more out of the tour than we received. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable-I would choose to have her again and would’ve given 1 or 2 stars if it weren’t for her. The issue was the driver. He was around an hour late to pick us up, he had to slam on the brakes to prevent an accident and also ran over a curb, both of those jostling all of the passengers several times. He was not personable-seemed a bit grouchy. We could’ve taken an Uber to Mt. Vernon and spent the time it took to explore the grounds without feeling rushed. Having been to Mt. Vernon about 10 years ago, I know we missed seeing a lot of this farm because of the time crunch.

Good tour

Good sights. Good history. Good guide. A little too much effort in hustling guests for a tip and positive review.

Dorothy_M, May 2026
Our tour guide Elvis was great thus the 2 stars.. Very knowledgeable about DC and Mt Vernon. Problems- they state the tour will not proceed in inclement weather. That is not the case. It was raining the entire time. You will be handed a very cheap garbage bag poncho and walk through rain and mud. If this is not your cup of tea make sure to cancel the day before. We did not therefore we did tour because we did not want to loose our money. Tour through the house was a bust as they crowded all 25 of us into one tour. It’s normally around 10. We were packed like sardines into the small rooms. Some areas could not fit everyone so the rest had to stand outside and miss the presentations. Between the weather and house tour it made for a miserable day.

Great history lesson!

Thea_M, May 2026
There is a good amount of uneven walking on Mount Vernon, so wear comfortable shoes, but a great experience at both Mount Vernon and Alexandria. The tour guide was very knowledgeable!

Half-day well spent

Chyanne_H, May 2026
I recently took a half-day trip to Mount Vernon, which also included a bus tour of Old Alexandria, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The tour was well organised, giving us time to see the highlights in the grounds, gardens, and house while still fitting in a relaxing and informative drive through Old Alexandria. The combination of history, scenery, and local insight made for a perfect half-day experience. A special mention goes to Lori, our tour guide, who was absolutely fantastic. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and brought the history of the area to life with interesting stories and great humour throughout the trip. Her enthusiasm really made the experience memorable. Khalif, our driver, was equally superb. He navigated the busy roads smoothly and safely, making the journey comfortable and stress-free. His professionalism and friendly attitude added to the overall enjoyment of the day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Washington area and looking for an enjoyable and informative trip outside the city.

Nice Tour

This was a very nice tour. Lori, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and informative. Would highly recommend.

Mount Vernon is not to be missed!

Irene_R, May 2026
Mount Vernon is a beautiful place to see. The bus was clean comfortable and air conditioned. We were able to securely leave our backpacks on the bus during our tour. Britney was a great tour guide, narrating our ride through the city, pointing out the historic sites and telling interesting facts and stories with humor and personality. She guided our tour of the Mount Vernon grounds and taught us about the tombs of the Washington family and also about the lives and burial grounds of the enslaved people who lived and worked there. We took off one star because we wished there had been an extra hour to spend more time in the historical museum on site. Thank you for a great tour!

My Vernon Tour

We had a great time there is a lot of walking and unfortunately it rained the day we went so it could be muddy and slippery. Wear sensible shoes and be careful..

Our experience was excellent, but the tour guide should have allowed a little more time for lunch. The restaurant Mount Vernon Inn’s service was quite slow.

Worth the trip!

Julie_L, Apr 2026
Historical tour to of Mount Vernon, with a stop at Christ Church in Alexandria…which was literally a 10 minute stop. Not allowed to tour church on Sunday as there are services. Do not go on a Sunday! Nice walk around the grounds at Mount Vernon. On site tour guides were informed & knowledgeable. There is an on site restaurant you need reservations for ahead of time! Food truck food outside was fabulous. Service super friendly. Gift shop was huge & nice. Visitor Center was informative & well designed. Be able to walk & wear flat shoes or boots, the grounds & majority of tour is outside w steps, hills, gravel & unpaved ground surface walking. It rained almost all day… tour provided ponchos & bottled water. Joey was our guide & she was very seasoned, knowledgeable & fun! Driver Corey was on time, kind, patient & a safe driver!

The tour guide and driver...

Bernadette_K, Apr 2026
The tour guide and driver (Walter) are wonderful! Joey, the tour guide is so knowledgeable and provides details about Alexandria and Mt. Vernon's history that were entertaining and informative. When you visit the education center at the end of the Mt. Vernon tour, go first to the theaters to get more history on the war and Washington. The museum is great, but didn't see theater until end so we wish we had more time

Very good trip. Nice bus...

Pamela_V, Apr 2026
Felt rushed through Mount Vernon gardens and mansion. When it's time to board the bus to return to DC, tour leader needs to stand outside the bus so we can see her to know which bus to board

Excellent experience

Karen_T, Mar 2026
We has Joey as our guide and Leah as our driver. They were both superb. Leah is an excellent driver and Joey was so informative and just very pleasant to be around. My mother and I had a wonderful time.

Great bang for your buck!

Alyson_C, Mar 2026
Our guide and driver were excellent! Very knowledgeable, patient and kind! Complimentary water and lots if time left over to ship in the gift store!

Our tour guide...

Melodee_J, Oct 2025
Our tour guide Christopher, and driver Kareem, were terrific. We learned a lot of history and really enjoyed seeing the actual home and belongings of our first President. Walking around the property, seeing the gardens, out buildings, and tomb was enlightening. Contemplating the lives of the slaves was a somber element as well.

Visit to Mt Vernon

Mary_E, Oct 2025
Was a convenient way to visit Mt Vernon from DC and Joey was so full of interesting history and details during the ride over and back and facilitated all the highlights of George Washington’s family home. Kareem’s driving was comfortable and on time. Great value for your time and money.
