Overview

Step into one of history's most dramatic nights—tracing Lincoln's final hours through Civil War-era D.C. Unlike rushed, generic museum visits, this guided tour takes you inside Ford's Theatre and the Petersen House with reserved access, revealing hidden details and untold stories. You see the theatre booth where the President was shot, stand in the very room where Lincoln drew his last breath, and more. This 2-hour small-group tour offers an intimate look at these historic sites. Please note: Between May 28 and August 31, Ford's Theatre closes its interior to tour groups for repairs. During this summer window, we adapt the route to feature alternative historic sites that keep the narrative moving. Regardless of the season, your journey will always include the Petersen House, Baptist Alley, the Star Saloon, and the imposing exterior of Ford's Theatre.
  • Entry into all mentioned sites is included in the cost of booking
  • Get access to historic D.C. spots you'd never see on your own
  • Your guide brings the ill-fated night to life, enriching your time
  • Limited to just 12 travelers, you get an intimate, small-group experience

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for the awesome review! We love separating myth from truth on our Lincoln Assassination tour. Shane is a fantastic guide, and we're so glad his upbeat energy and deep knowledge of Washington DC history kept the tour educational, entertaining, and right on schedule. Thanks for visiting Ford's Theatre and the Petersen House with us!

John_M, May 2026
Only complaint was more time at Ford theatre museum portion would have been nice but hard to do with structured your, I get it. Extremely entertaining and formidable guide. Very well done and money well spent. One other note: it is NOT a private tour. Prior to our tour we had to listen to some blowhard woman and her husband whine about how it was supposed to be. We also booked online and it most definitely does NOT say that. Hopefully the company stayed strong and didn’t refund them because they were wrong. Bunch of babies. How’s that for direct?

Response from Host, May 2026

Glad you enjoyed and thanks for your feedback and support! The theatre only allows guests a limited time in the museum and require everyone to exit after 20-30 minutes, something we wish could change as some would like more time to explore the exhibits. A good note for anyone exploring Ford's Theatre whether with us on on their own. We appreciate your support on the other matter. We found her comments insulting to our other guests, such as yourself. I am glad this didn't put a damper on your day! I hope you can join us for another tour while in town. Cheers! Liam

Ford’s Theater and Peterson House

First hour of tour is walking to Ford’s Theater. Walking through the actual theater where President Lincoln was assassinated gives you chills, and the entire experience is presented with incredible care and historical detail.

Response from Host, May 2026

Cheryl_H, May 2026
I’ve taken my students to DC for 9 years and visited Fords Theatre and Peterson’s Hose many times. Never have I learned so much about the assassination of President Lincoln and the people involved. This is a wonderful tour and I highly recommend it.

Excellent tour with unexpected Civil War history information as well.

Patricia_A, May 2026
Dash did a phenomenal job portraying John Wilkes Booth, his mindset, and poor planning to disrupt the Union’s victory. The sacrifice of Abraham Lincoln is a sad moment in our history. This tour was excellent in addressing the what ifs as well, and a little Clara Barton, founder of the Red Cross and mother of nursing thrown in.

Informational

THOMAS_C, Apr 2026
This is an walking tour only. Walking on sidewalks and uneven surfaces (pavers). Many up and down curbs. A few stairs. Rating this tour a moderate level tour. The Theater has a elevator if needed. Tour guide was full of information and could anwser questions. Could not hear her at first, asked her to speak up and she did. She was able to keep the tour together with many other people around.

Claudia did great job telling the story! Learned way more with a guide than touring alone or reading plaques throughout the Ford Theater

Kevin was so great!! Arlington National Cemetery is daunting, he made it interesting and relevant. Highly recommend!

Outstanding Lincoln Assassination tour by Jim Garrett!

Ron_P, Apr 2026
Jim Garrett did an outstanding job as a subject matter expert in the Lincoln Assassination. He answered all my questions and his detailed knowledge of what took place was most impressive! Even though the tour had to be a little rushed due to a matinee performance at Ford’s, Jim more than made up for it with his outstanding work. I applaud his efforts!

Historically surprising

Very informative and entertaining. Our guide Skye was super smart and very entertaining! I learned things I never knew!

Much more than just a standard walking tour

John_L, Apr 2026
There is some walking involved, but mostly flat walking. The guide, Dash , was very informative and packed other relevant sites in along the way, including the National Portrait Gallery.

Fun With Tony the Tour Guide

Walking is manageable, and covers a lot of ground. Take your ibuprofen prior to the tour. It's an excellent adventure in history and tour guide Tony has a lot of interesting information and trivia to share.
