Exploring San Francisco

VILMA_S, Mar 2026
Exciting tour, easy way to explore the city in a short time. Golden Gate bridge a picturesque view. Wish more time was allocated for picture taking.

Peggy_J, Mar 2026
Locations were good. Lots of staff available. Answered questions and didn't rush us getting off and on. A couple of the busses did not have good speakers so hard to hear

Bait and switch?

Julie_D, Jan 2026
The bus was not running on the first day of our 2-day ticket. We had to purchase another 48 hour ticket with “another company” so they said. I never saw another Hop in/off bus company anywhere. Nevertheless I got an email saying busses weren’t running on 1/22. I did chat with someone yesterday and asked for a refund. They said I would be hearing from you. VERY Disappointed and wondering if there isn’t some scam at work to be honest. I have used viator before and had no issues. I had to pay more for the same 48 hour tour with the “other company.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Yes, we were not running on 1/22/2026. So sorry about that, it was a situation out of our control. Please email to info@sanfranciscodeluxetours.com so we can refund you fully. We are a reputable company and have been doing Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Tours for the last 15 years in San Francisco.

Great! I loved our tour guide. He was the best. Be careful if you rode on top over the golden gate bridge. VERY WINDY AND COLD!!!!!

Poor time management

Madhuvanthi_L, Dec 2025
We waited in queue for a long time and the buses didn’t arrive on time despite calling the drivers. We could barely cover our main stops. Had to wait more than an hour for the buses to arrive.

Don’t use this bus!

Pinelopi_F, Dec 2025
I purchased a two-day tour ticket through Viator for San Francisco (14–15 December 2025), and the experience was extremely disappointing. On day one, the service was already unreliable. We waited over an hour at the Golden Gate stop around 4pm, and buses were inconsistent throughout the day. When the bus did arrive, it was in very poor condition — it was extremely dirty, and the windows were so grimy that you couldn’t properly see out. Because of the cold, we had to sit downstairs, which made the dirty windows even more frustrating. WiFi was also advertised as being available, but it did not work at all. The driver regularly passed stops without stopping or informing passengers, leaving people confused and unsure whether the service was operating properly. Day two was a complete failure. The service was not running at all, yet there was no communication, signage, or information at any of the bus stops. We attempted to use three different stops with no success. Eventually, at the Fisherman’s Wharf stop, we were told by a nearby shop staff member (not even official tour staff) that the service had not been running all day. To make matters worse, customer service was awful. I contacted the merchant directly and received no response for a long time. When they finally replied, they refused to take any responsibility or offer any form of resolution or compensation. Overall, this was a waste of money and time. Poorly maintained buses, broken promises (no WiFi), unreliable service, lack of communication, and terrible customer service. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Great introduction to the city. If you're going to sit on top, which is the best way to see everything, be prepared for it to be windy, ESPECIALLY when going across the Golden Gate Bridge. This time of year, dress warmly. Narrative was quite informative. Don't need ear buds, it comes over a speaker.

Bus arrived late then...

Lucia_V, Nov 2025
Bus arrived late then competence, vehicle very old, and there's no flexibility to change plans . I purchased 48 hours.

Venkatesh_A, Nov 2025
Lot of time wasted in wanting for bus and not able to cover more than 5 stops. Disappointed. Live tracking the bus should be needed.

Great tour

Ginger_B, Nov 2025
Easy to catch from Union Square. Many stops to choose from if you want to get off and investigate and catch the next bus. Weather was perfect and we enjoyed it very much!

Very enjoyable trip. Great way to see San Francisco

Rod_K, Nov 2025
Very nice trip. Audio did not always match with sights. But overall a great experience. We rode the entire route first and then continued to get off on on at location we picked doing the total route.

Paradise Lost?

Kenneth_M, Nov 2025
We rode three 'sections' of hop on/hop off on Oct. 20, 2025. Sections 1 and 3 were the same driver, who was courteous and informative and played pre-recorded historical information which was well-presented and had interesting content. The middle section of our day was driven by Will or Willy, who apparently thinks the tour bus is his personal stage to shout and scream like a rap singer, and give inane commentary about things we passed. As we approached Ghirardelli Square he gave a long-winded talk which he ended by saying "Don't bother getting off here if you want to buy chocolate, it's cheaper at WalMart." All of us on top of the bus looked at each other in astonishment. No one got off at Ghirardelli. His creepy commentary was painful enough on top--when my party moved downstairs to get out of the sun later the increased volume of his running drivel forced us to put our hands over our ears. (Oddly, when riding inside you can't really see outside--the windows are covered in black spots for some reason...) Not once between the Wharf and Haight-Ashbury, where we happily escaped his voice, did we hear one of the pre-recorded tour segments, so we got essentially no useful information for all those miles. Finally, our bus did not go thru Golden Gate park as advertised, apparently due to some unresolved business issue. A huge loss for the tourists on board the bus.

Wear warm clothes for trip across the Golden Gate Bridge. The route map needs to be updated as there is no stop near the ferry terminal.

San Francisco

Donna_H, Nov 2025
It was a great way to see the city. We loved it. The trolley ran on time and our driver is the only female driver and she was so helpful and gave great details about the city.

We took the Hop-On...

Nirav_R, Oct 2025
We took the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour in San Francisco (2-day pass) yesterday and had a disappointing experience. We waited over 90 minutes for the next bus, and no one answered the contact number provided in the confirmation email. As international visitors, this was very inconvenient, and we had to call Viator directly to find out when the next bus would arrive. Overall, it was frustrating and not the level of service we expected.

All things considered,...

Frank_Z, Oct 2025
All things considered, this was a good tour. My wife was concerned about getting off at any of the stops because she didn't want to be 'stuck' at that stop for 30-45 minutes. So, we only got off at the Golden Gate bridge stop to take a couple photos and it was great because the bus waited for us.

First time!

Charles_L, Oct 2025
Once checked in, process of transfers, funny and very knowledgeable drivers, and view was excellent. Great time, especially when the weather was great!

Worst bus tour experience ever

Petra_F, Oct 2025
No signs, waited for over an hour without a bus passing by, cleanliness of the bus was very disappointing and the quality of the speakers was also very poor.

Willie’s is the best driver

Sylvie_L, Sep 2025
When we got Willie’s bus it was the best adventure we had. I stayed of listening to the pre recorded Willie was the one on the speaker and he would tell you when to get your camera ready. I recommend this tour.

(Staff and equipment)

marion_b, Aug 2025
Helpful friendly staff, equipment seemed well maintained and in working order. Views from the top of the bus are AWESOME!

Excellent tour.

Pamela_Y, Aug 2025
Wonderful experience, the driver/ tour guide was excellent and funny. Good tour, very nice people all around, from booking, check in and the drivers. Loved this tour

A Few Bus Problems

Maria_N, Jul 2025
We boarded at Union Square. Staff did not seem to know what to do with our tickets on my phone. I don't think they were scanned. We had to change buses at Fisherman's Wharf and had to wait 20 minutes for the new bus to take off. When we departed Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point, the speaker system no longer worked so driver could not give us highlights. Driver Willie was great and did his best to explain some of the highlights to us when he could pull over and walk up top to tell us, but most of the time we were on our own. Our 2nd bus was extremely loud - much louder than our first bus. I'm guessing it had some mechanical problems in addition to the speaker system problems. We did appreciate all the highlights that were scheduled. All 20 are good choices. Just wish we could have had Willie be able to describe them to us. I take a HoHo bus in every single city I visit - all around the world. I always recommend this experience to friends but I think you need to sharpen up a bit.

Fun!

Bill_S, Jun 2025
Great communication after we made our reservations. All drivers were excellent. Be sure to check your time when you “hop off” so that you have an idea when to return, i.e. 30 minute increments, to “hop on”. Use the upper deck when you can.

Humerous tour

Thalia_M, Jun 2025
Our driver/guide was very funny! He was great at explaining each site while adding humor. Great way to see everything!

Disappointed Ride in SF

Susan_T, Jun 2025
We were disappointed. The bus didn't stop at all of the stops marked on the map. We particularly missed the 2 stops inside Golden Gate Park. The driver sometimes provided commentary and sometimes it was recorded. He didn't turn on the recording at the right time to cover what we were seeing. The recording needs to be updated--it has the wrong mayor.

A ride not up to the mark- very disappointing

Parul_D, May 2025
The bus is very old and not at all tourist friendly. The windows on lower level have screen on them, which mars the beauty of the whole experience. They driver didi not stick to the route, so I missed a few stops. Overall very poor experience

Hop On Hop Off bus at Fishermans wharf

Ricky_N, May 2025
Hop On Hop Off bus starts at Fishermans wharf. If you take the ferry from Vallejo be prepared for a long walk. Or you can take the F line. I had to walk a couple miles because I got the wrong information.

The trip overall is good,...

Cynthia_G, Mar 2025
The trip overall is good, driver Pablo was very helpful but the bus needs update. Recorded narration about the landmarks we passed by are not clear esp. if you're on top of the double-decker bus. If you want to explore the city, this tour doesn't cover much and not much info is given about the places this tour is taking you. But for the price, it's still okay to take... just don't expect too much.

Not worth it!

Sanjay_R, Feb 2025
Charged more than the on-the-spot booking rates. Bus frequency is low resulting in waste of time if you get down at a spot.

Amazing workers at the bus. And very bad customer service, they extra charged me one day and didn’t want reembolses me back. The lady was so bossy at the phone.
