We booked our cruise for 9:40 AM. We had planned our day around this time, but when we arrive, the office did not open till 10 and we were told that Viator had provide us wrong information. We called Viator and were told that they had emailed us that there was a change. No email was ever received. They were able to get us on a different boat through a different company for 940, but we ended up having to run between piers to find that other company. It was not a good way to start the day; however, the cruise around the harbor later on went well.

Lots of walking up/down hills/stairs and worth every minute. Very well done tour and the staff on the boat and at Alcatraz were incredibly hospitable.

The 1/4 mile (+) climb to the cell house goes up 130 feet, which may not sound like much to some, but it's still like a 13 story building... but worth it as you say!

Alcatraz tour was excellent and very educational. Audio tour very well done.
Boat trip to and from island was uneventful.
Lucky to be on boat tour when Blue Angels flew overhead!

Trip was cancelled so disappointed . Electrics put on Alcatraz and wasn't going to be fixed whilst I was there . So have to come back and go there again.

As stated to another guest who was unable to take the tour, we ask that you reconsider this 1-star review as the cancellation was far beyond our control. The 2.5-day power outage on Alcatraz Island was highly abnormal.
San Francisco has much to offer, and hopefully you were at least able to appreciate the Golden Gate Bridge trip. Still, we recognize how much people want to see Alcatraz, and are thus sorry this trouble happened during your visit. Please contact us directly if any concerns remain.

I learned a lot about Alcatraz Island and prison through an audio guide. Moreover, it was interesting to get information about actual state of US prisons.

Must do in San Fransisco, wonderful ferry ride back and forth too! Beautiful views of San Fransisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. I recommend taking the bay cruise too afterwards! The prison is like visiting a ghost of the past, one can just imagine what it was like to be there btw Al Capone’s cell is C-181 second deck! There were no signs saying this I asked the guard there. Great trip get tickets before you go the sellout very quickly.

As a dream come true to come to experience Alcatraz.Audio tour with no rental fee is most valuable to learn the history. But a bit pricy. Maybe only one time visit.

Talk about a moving experience! The island itself was quite beautiful and the flowers absolutely gorgeous…all brought from the mainland or grown from the seeds dropped by the great number of birds which come to nest safely every year. (The park. rangers keep a tally each nesting season as to what birds and how many nests and eggs they find.)
We were fortunate enough to stroll through the area with a person from the Conservancy. She did an amazing job of sharing unique stories and not commonly known information about “the rock.” we even got to go “behind the scenes” to tour areas generally not open to the public. We were joined by a park ranger who was just getting off work; he added so much to our stroll.
Next, we went to the cell blocks, where we listened to the audio guide, an absolutely necessary part of the tour! It was extremely well done, and included powerful sound effects, as if you were in an inhabited Alcatraz. The narrators included former corrections officers as well as inmates.
Prior to those events, we had listened to the four part video about the Native American occupation of Alcatraz in 1969 and 1970. We vaguely remember that, but this certainly opened our eyes to the importance of it, and how it impacted the civil rights movement for the Native Americans.
Once again, our national park service scores big along with the Conservancy! Also we appreciated the opportunity to be ferriedto and from Alcatraz safely.

The ride to and from Alcatraz and the excellent recorded Alcatraz tour, which everyone there had, did not include a San Francisco Bay Cruise unless that meant the ride back from the island. If so, this was false advertising as we paid extra for a "cruise" that was no more than a ride back. to Pier 33. Please let me know if we missed the "cruise" part or if this was simply how you described the tour. Unclear.

Alcatraz lived up to all the hype. Great tour and a must see. You can go at own pace and stay on island as long as you want. Experience with Viator was easy and convenient. Hassle free. Definitely recommend
