Very disappointing customer service — no flexibility despite airline-caused travel disruption
I paid $318 for this tour, scheduled for September 4, 2026, and was extremely disappointed with how the tour operator handled an unexpected airline disruption.
My American Airlines flight was rebooked because the airline was short-staffed for crew, which was completely outside of my control. I contacted the tour operator the day before my scheduled tour and also contacted Viator to explain the situation. I provided my rebooked flight information as documentation and asked to simply reschedule the tour for September 5, the following day.
I was not asking for a refund. I had already paid $318 and still wanted to take the tour. I was simply asking for the company to work with me because of an airline disruption that I could not have anticipated or prevented. The tour agent requested an additional $160 to reschedule.
Unfortunately, the tour operator refused to reschedule me. I find this extremely disappointing, particularly because I gave notice before the tour date and provided documentation showing why my travel plans had changed.
I have booked with Viator for years and have never had an experience like this. What makes the situation even more frustrating is that there are already other negative reviews on Viator regarding this tour operator, and unfortunately, my experience raises similar concerns about customer service and flexibility.
I understand that tour companies have policies, but there should also be some consideration for legitimate airline disruptions when a customer gives advance notice and is simply asking to move the reservation to the following day.
For $318, I expected much better customer service and a reasonable effort to accommodate the situation. Sadly, I cannot recommend this tour operator based on my experience.

I had a problem with this tour, The problem was not the vendor, but with Viator. Our printed out tickets for 4 people showed 9:45AM, but when we were not picked up as indicated, I called the vendor. They came and picked us up, but said that they have never had a 9:45AM pick up time.!!! They said the correct time was 9:00AM!!!!

Muir woods and sausalito had sufficient time for a quick tour. Comfortable vans to travel with kids ( ac could have been better). Alcatraz was awesome. Overall great experience but the price is steep.

Our guide Robert was excellent. Knowledgeable, funny and extremely patient with the kids (and their many questions) in our group. Communication was good throughout the day.

This tour was well organized from start to finish, with clear instructions and plenty of time to enjoy each stop without feeling rushed.
Our tour guide was incredibly friendly, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. The only minor downside was that the reminder about tipping was mentioned quite frequently, which became a bit repetitive. However, it didn’t take away from the overall experience.
Overall, this was an excellent tour, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

This was an excellent small group tour all around. Visiting Alcatraz first worked well for our family. Communication was good except for a buried line about what time to meet the Mercedes Sprinter bus after the Alcatraz ferry back (note, no need to rush back). Katya drove around the city a bit and told us interesting things about the city. Muir Woods visit was incredible. Sausalito was a bit crowded on a super nice day. There is an option to stay for a nice dinner and take a separate ferry back if you need more time. Bring your own water!

Not a single note that you cannot bring your suitcase to the Alcatraz boat with you. As a tourist I had my carry on, and received not a single mention of me not being able to go to with it. And when I asked to change my ticket to later time, so I can put my luggage to storage - it was declined. Then I asked to refund specifically part of the ticket worthy of the Alcatraz - it was declined again. Plan to sue them for the Alcatraz part and all the lawyer expenses once I get back to NY. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Please note that Alcatraz has its own security and baggage policies, which apply to all visitors regardless of which company the ticket is purchased through. Large bags, suitcases, and oversized luggage are not permitted on the Alcatraz ferry or on the island, and luggage storage is not available at the departure pier.
We strongly encourage all guests to review the official Alcatraz policies and security requirements before their scheduled visit, especially when traveling with luggage. These regulations are established and enforced by the Alcatraz ferry/operator and are outside of our control.
We understand how frustrating this situation must have been, particularly while traveling, and we appreciate your feedback. We will continue working to make important information such as baggage restrictions as clear as possible for future guests.
Incredible sights outside of the city. Roman was a great guide - entertaining and very knowledgeable (and gave us some great recommendations for dinner locations after the tour ended, too). Would highly recommend.

Great tour. The Muir Woods is a must see experience. Our driver was great and give us a ton of great information about San Francisco.

We really enjoyed this tour, the Muir Woods is majestic! Absolutely a must see, just walking there removed all the stress in the world, and we felt so much connected with nature. Sausalito is nothing special.. just a free time between Muir Woods and Alcatraz. Alcatraz is a place you visit out of curiosity, don’t expect to see much. The smell there is foul and the place is filled with pelican droppings, but we enjoyed it and didn’t regret it, to sum it all, it was a nice day and was very enjoyable.

The tour was not worth the price because there wasn’t enough time to fully enjoy the experience. It’s essentially a half-day tour—they basically just drive you to Muir Woods and Sausalito, then drop you off at the pier after lunch to continue your Alcatraz tour on your own, which can easily be booked separately. We expected much more value for the price.
We especially felt rushed in Sausalito, where there was barely enough time to explore, have a meal, or enjoy the waterfront. Muir Woods also felt hurried, which took away from the experience.
There are other tour options that allow significantly more time at both Muir Woods and Sausalito, making for a much more enjoyable and worthwhile visit. There are also alternative ways to travel to these destinations without booking this tour package.
Another downside was the constant hinting for tips throughout the tour, which felt excessive and was off-putting.

I would not recommend this tour in any way, for multiple reasons. The tour guide that we had was offensive from the start of the tour through to the end of the trip. The information he provided was more of a rant with strong political under tones which were really unnecessary and took away from the experience considerably. His commentary was passive aggressive, politically charged, and offensive.
The entire tour was uncomfortable, awkward, and offensive due to what seemed like distain for tourists, his political agenda, and a random verbal assault on the Catholic Church. The tour came to a completely disturbing end when we were dropped off at Pier 33 and the tour guide became physically intimidating and threatening in an attempt to get a larger tip which left me feeling shaken and rattled. I can only see this sort of behaviour escalating to the point of a physical confrontation with a tourist (if it has not already happened).
In addition to all of this, as noted in previous reviews, the tour is too rushed, with insufficient time at Muir Woods and at Sausalito. Don't go. Book a shuttle to Muir Woods instead.

Alcatraz tour exceptional. Easy to navigate.
The Muir wood tour and Sausalito was great also. However we felt we didn’t have enough time in Sausalito. A quick coffee and it was time to get back on Sprinter again. Wish we could have explored this beautiful area for at least an extra hour. Robert our guide was knowledgable, and efficient however we found there were too many requests for tips for himself throughout the tour. Also the large sign in Sprinter hinting at maximum tip being the norm was off putting.
Overall we enjoyed the trip very much.

Muir Woods was fantastic as was the Alcatraz tour. I wish there had been more time than an hour for Sausalito (time was only enough to grab lunch at a downtown restaurant- needed an additional 30 minutes to walk around the marina and shops).

Dustin was wonderful on our tour today! He was knowledgeable about the SF area, humorous, which I appreciate and a very safe driver, which my husband appreciated. He also was willing to stop at the Golden Gate Bridge so we could get pictures!! Five stars for Dustin!!

Great tour and efficient tour especially if you’re short on time in San Francisco! Would recommend because you end up seeing 3 places. Keep in mind that you do Alcatraz by yourself
