What are people saying about St. Peter's Dome (Cupola di San Pietro)

Great tour but long lines and areas closed.
Our guide Francesca was wonderful. A wealth of knowledge about all things Vatican! The security line was quite long so we were on our feet waiting for over an hour before the tour began. This is not a skip the line tour! We also bought this tour expecting to go into the grottos but we were disappointed that they were closed off.

Excellent experience
It was such an amazing experience and Alexandra was the best guide to have. Such an enthusiastic person ready to transmit her knowledge! Wonderful experience which I highly recommend to families.

Oh so good.
The tour guide was unbelievably knowledgeable and such a nice person. The tour wasn’t to long or to short, and considering the amount of other people there we didn’t seem rushed or pressured. I would highly recommend this tour with this company.

St. Peter’s Basilica
The tour was amazing. It really came to life with our tour guide, Alexandria (may be misspelled). She was very passionate about St. Peter’s Basilica and you could tell that the Vatican holds a special place in her heart. I’m super happy that we got her as our tour guide.

St. Peter's Dome (Cupola di San Pietro)
  • You must pass through a security check to access the dome—banned items include pocketknives, corkscrews, and umbrellas.

  • The dress code in the basilica and dome requires that shoulders and knees are covered.

  • The dome is partially accessible to wheelchair users. There is an elevator to the roof level (or you can climb the 320 steps), but only a spiral staircase provides access to the cupola at the highest point of the dome (another 200 steps).

  • Views are dizzying from the top of St. Peter’s Dome, so visiting the top is not recommended for anyone afraid of heights.

  • Kids especially enjoy the invigorating climb and views, so consider joining a small-group tour tailored to families if traveling with children.
