Itinerary
Your day starts at Piazza del Popolo, where you board an air-conditioned coach for the drive north from Rome to Civita di Bagnoregio—a medieval hilltop village perched on a plateau of volcanic rock. Getting here independently is a challenge, with no direct public transit to the bridge entrance, so having transport sorted in advance saves considerable hassle.
Cross the footbridge into the village and spend about two hours exploring its narrow streets, Etruscan caves, and enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding valleys.
From there, the coach continues into Tuscany for a three-course lunch and tasting of five wines—among them a Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's most prized reds—at a farmhouse and vineyard in the Montepulciano area.
The tour then heads to Orvieto for roughly two hours of free time. Built atop a sheer cliff of volcanic tufa, the town is home to a striking Gothic cathedral and a network of underground tunnels and caves beneath the streets.
Finish the day back in Rome.

It was excellent. Our driver, Antonio, and our guide Valentina were fantastic. Valentina gave us very useful information both about the cities we were visiting and the city of Rome where we started from. She was very clear in her communication and has a lot of passion and love for her country. I appreciate that we had free time in all the cities and a very enjoyable lunch. I wish there was more time in Orvieto, but I understand that the agenda needed to fit in a reasonable timeframe and 12 hours is already quite a bit of time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, but would caution that it was a lot of walking which to me is typical for time spent in Italy, so this is not a detraction but rather just for awareness.
The visit to the 2 villages was great. There was a stop at a small convenient store. The prices were not cheaper as the guide said. Found the some of the same items cheaper elsewhere. It was a very strange stop- bus load of people for the store to make money off. The stop for lunch was also a sales pitch. Beautiful view and good food. Couldn’t hear their sales pitch to buy their products. They had put so many tour group into a room and we couldn’t hear anything- so we wouldn’t know which wine to buy even if we wanted.
This was our favorite excursion of our one week trip to Italy. We were two seniors who enjoyed visiting Tuscany for the first time. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was a 12 hour day from start to finish, but the time went by so quickly. I would recommend it to other adults.
I highly recommend this tour. Beautiful views and places visited. The sightseeing was well-organized. We were very impressed with the hospitality at the Fattoria Pulcino winery. Delicious wine and food with stunning views. Our guide, Errica, certainly deserves special mention and thanks. She took such great care of the tour participants and told us the history of the places we visited. She also shared various interesting facts and recommended things to see and do in Rome and the surrounding area. We also extend our gratitude to our brave driver, who drove us to our destinations for twelve hours and safely returned us to the winery when a heavy downpour began to rage. The city of Civita is such a gem. An old treasure that you find and it surprises you. Our tour guide, Chiara, was fabulous, and very knowledgeable. She was aware of everyone’s needs.
Fantastic tour full of amazing sites! Our tour guide Chiara was friendly, well organized, informative about each location and full of interesting information between each location. Fabrizio our driver was friendly, expertly maneuvered the bus well through Italy's narrow streets and drove safely.
Our first stop Civita Bagnoregio: Getting to Civita Bagnoregio has 80 steps then a long ascending bridge to get to but once there it is a lovely little town with extraordinary views!!!
Our second stop Montepulciano: Lunch at Pulcino Family restaurant was lovely with delicious food & wine and a very pretty views.
Our third and last stop Oriveto: A clift top pretty town with a stunning cathedral and views. It requires about a 10-15min walk from where the bus stops to get to the town.
Prepare to walk a lot! Worth every step!!?
Lovely day trip! Bagnoregio is remarkable even if you don’t make the climb to the dead city. 5 tasting at a family owned winery from the 1600’s and Orvietio’s Duomo is absolutely stunning!
I had a terrible experience with City Wonders and would not recommend this company.
There were approximately 50 guests crammed onto the coach, plus the tour guide and driver, with nearly every seat occupied. After one of the stops, I moved because I felt uncomfortably close to the man seated in front of me. The guide had never said we couldn’t change seats. Instead of simply explaining the rule, she publicly chastised and tried to humiliate me in front of the entire bus. She made other guests move as well. She later rudely shamed another guest in front of everyone for being only a couple of minutes late.
The guide was unfriendly, constantly grimaced when guests asked questions, and repeatedly walked away without making sure the full group was together. She had no microphone, so with nearly 50 people, we could barely hear her. I learned practically nothing about the places we visited—which is the entire point of paying for a guided tour.
The locations themselves were beautiful, but the rude guide, cramped bus, and poor organization completely took away from the experience. Even the check-in staff were unwelcoming. Honestly, it felt like no one cared whether we enjoyed the tour.
I am a travel advisor with extensive professional experience in the guided-tour industry, and I have taken tours with many companies around the world. This was by far the worst tour guide I have encountered. The experience was so bad that I immediately canceled another City Wonders tour I had booked for Pompeii. I will not book City Wonders for any of my future clients.
Save your money. Rent a car and visit these towns yourself, or book a genuine small-group excursion with a different company.

There is quite a bit of walking but if you’re ok with that. This is a fantastic time. It’s worth every penny and then some!! Food was good the lady guide was great!

The tour it self is fantastic. You get to see and learn so much about different cultures and how the fundament was made and how they try hard too maintain it without doing too much.

A long day but a great tour to Orvieto and Bagnoregio. Our guide Veronica was very informative and gave clear instructions regarding meeting times and place. The included lunch including wines at a winery was very nice. The walk from entry over to Bagnoregio was quite strenuous but well worthwhile. It was unbelievable.
Great full day. Our guide Cosimo was super engaging and helpful with lots of trivia / fun facts type information about each of the places we visited. He really made an effort to engage the group, not just about the places we visited but about Italy and Italian life and culture in general. We were strangers coming from all over the world, so this was appreciated by many of the guests especially on the longer stretches of the bus ride. The towns themselves were a fun break from Rome after being there for a couple weeks (work and vacation trip, and my 4th time in Rome - I was eager for the countryside!)
Beautiful excursion, I wish we could have had more time in Orvietto, I don’t think 1 hr is even close to what’s needed. Bagnoreggio on the other hand was beautiful, make sure you are hydrated and ready to do some cardio because the walk and stairs are a lot :) totally worth it once you get up to the top though. If you are lucky and get Casimo you will definitely have a wonderful time :)
A great trip to two magical places. Didn't care much for the chocolate stop though but the rest was worth the trip
Look at the bus driver also Anthony we’re great Tour guys and the bus driver W/F and driving Anthony had a knowledge in history very kind and courtesy and caring for each of the passenger. Explain to us very thoroughly of the sites were visiting. Also get the right direction of Minh points. Who are the bus will Stop and what time we need to get back on very through Man very professional I wish that all Tour guys will be like Anthony. .
The tour started and finished on time, and the itinerary was well planned overall. The main downside was the lunch service—it was very slow, with long waits between courses, which took away from the experience.
Our guide, Paula, was attentive and organized, but she shared very little information about the places we visited. While it’s easy enough to look up the history and facts online, hearing those stories and insights from the guide adds so much to the experience and makes the tour much more engaging.

My wife and I decided to break up our week in Rome with this wonderful guided excursion into Umbria and Tuscany. From the early morning start in Piazza del Popolo until our mid-evening return every minute was well spent. Our tour guide, Giulio, was exceptional, giving us a history lesson on Rome, Umbria, Tuscany and the cities we visited, Ovieto and Civita di Bagnoregio (where it's said that Harry Styles has a remote home). For good measure, Giulio also expertly informed us about local Italian wines and foods. All the while, he answered many questions and amused everyone with his sense of humour. At lunchtime, we enjoyed a traditional sit down meal and wine-tasting session with our fellow day-trippers. Everyone enjoyed the experience immensely and I can't recommend it enough. To put the icing on the cake, the whole day cost less for my wife and myself than a meal we had the night before. It was incredible value and you really should generously tip your guide and the coach driver. We're looking forward to arranging another excursion next time we visit Rome.
The day overall was fun but long. Orvieto is a great little hill town and going atop the tower for the view was amazing. This is not a guided tour but a bus tour with some guidance. Lunch stop food was ok. Civita was the highlight! An amazing location. The walk to and from is long so be prepared but once there just a great place to see.
Pari was an excellent guide. Both stops were pleasantly quieter than prior Italy excursions.
Highly recommend both tour and guide.
We enjoyed the two small towns we visited, but were disappointed in the winery tour as all we saw were the barrels in the basement.

Amazing scenery. Great group on the tour .Antonio drive with skill and Cosimo our guide was warm, funny and shared lits of insights in to where we were travelling and the rich hustory.
It’s a long day do bring snacks & water.Bagnoregio & Orvieto were awesome and definitely worth visiting. The wine tasting was with a very large group and not personal at all. I’ve been to much better wine tastings with small groups. Our guide Gulia was awesome…she had a lot of energy and was very informative and personable.
Pari was a great tour guide. She was very informative about the places that we were going. Francesco was our driver and did an excellent job of navigating the crazy traffic. I wish we would have had a little more time at "temptation island ". There was so much to try! We saw beautiful architecture and landscapes. The walk up to the dying city was brutal but it was beautiful. We enjoyed the trip.

Experience was well worth the money. Our guide (Lorenzo) was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed his presentation of the history of the areas we visited. He was very informative and knowledgeable of the areas as well as answering any other questions we had.
We did not expect much from the included “lunch”. But it far exceeded our expectations. We would have gladly paid for the lunch experience on its own. This was by far the most value per experience that we experienced on our recent vacation.
It was an amazing tour. Our tour guide Leonardo was fantastic. He told us lots of really good information about the area and was very helpful. Made the trip very fun. We love the sites. They were just amazing. Highly recommend this tour.

Had such a WONDERFUL day trip to Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio, and a Tuscan family winery! Such a beautiful region and 100% a must-see if you are visiting Florence or Rome. Really special and lesser known medieval towns that provide spectacular views, great food, and great street markets! Our tour guide, Veronica, was funny, nice, and very knowledgable. The bus transportation all went smoothly as well! Would 100% book this trip again just to go back to these two cities.
