Itinerary
The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Vatican Museums are visited by huge numbers of people each day, but with this handy Vatican tour—which includes priority access—bypass the worst of the crowds by entering with your guide through an exclusive entranceway.
The halls and rooms of the museum complex comprise miles of historic art and antiquities, but you go straight to the highlights, such as the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Pinecone Courtyard.
Continue to the Sistine Chapel, home of two of the most important frescoes of the Italian Renaissance. Learn about Michelangelo’s "The Last Judgement" and "The Creation of Adam" from outside the chapel (no talking inside), then head on in to admire the frescoes in person.
Follow your guide into St. Peter’s Basilica to see "La Pietà," another Michelangelo masterpiece, and learn about Bernini’s bronze altar. You can stay inside St. Peter’s Basilica after your tour ends, or head outside to St. Peter’s Square, where your tour ends.

We had a great tour with Chiara. She's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the topic. It was a pleasure to listen to her!

The trip was rather disappointing. I had scheduled an 8 am tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St Peter’s for Monday 4/20. The night before I received a cancellation. No explanation just that it was canceled & I would be refunded. There was a link to reschedule a tour but the only option was 9:30 am on 4/20 & an Express tour (2 hours) of the Vatican. We only had that day left in Rome so has no choice-if we wanted to see it. The cost was actually more too. )We got there & the lines were insane! We entered an “express” lane(not) then once inside it was wall to wall people we were just barely shuffling our feet and the security was saying no stopping move along inside, so you could barely appreciate anything. I was starting to feel very claustrophobic! If you are in Rome it’s something you have to do, but it’s just a check box. If I were to do it again I would go in January or February. I do want to say our guide Alessandra was awesome! She did try her best to manage the crowds & at least we only had a group of 11. Five was my family. They say it’s even busier in the summer months- I would certainly book further in advance & try to get one of the first openings at 8 am- if it doesn’t get cancelled on you.

This was an incredible experience. I definitely recommend buying the skip the line option. We were there in April and the lines were really long even though it is the shoulder season. I was so glad that we booked the skip the line because it likely would have taken 3 hours to get through the line without it.
Jim_C, Apr 2026
Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The area is very crowded but our guide moved us through the sites effectively. Definitely worth the price to see the Sistine Chapel and skip the self-guided line.
Thomas_G, Apr 2026
Guide was excellent. She had a great depth of knowledge.
The pace was very comfortable even though there were a lot of people.
Well organised on the ground. The use of headsets to hear the guide was an essential feature as it would not be possible to hear otherwise.

Great tour with a knowledgeable guide. Very accommodating to my family and other members of the tour.

Sophia was a great guide. The Vatican is a must visit regardless of your religion or nationality. I walked across an entire country before lunch.

Chiara was an amazing tour guide!! She was friendly, passionate, knowledgeable and informative, it was evident she loves what she does. Due to the crowds the tour took a little longer than planned however Chiara spent the extra time because she wanted the group to get the best experience. We have done many tours in multiple counties utilizing Viator app and she was by far the best guide we have had. In addition to her knowledge and passion she was patient, understanding and flexible in adjusting to mobility of the group. The only bad part of the tour was when we had to say goodbye, we would have loved to have her spend the rest of the day showing us more of the city!! Chiara is an amazing guide!!

As a newer solo traveler this experience was amazing. This was also one of my first guided tours and Leo did a great job! Very knowledgeable and made it feel like I was with a group of friends.
Robert_C, Apr 2026
Leo was an excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the museums and the Vatican itself.

Very busy ,but worth every penny.Great experience. Excellent guide. Now we have been and seen . What a day .
Jennifer_F, Apr 2026
Absolutely no grace on being there a few minutes late. They wouldn't let us join our group even though we were there at the ticket time. We were supposed to be 15 minutes earlier which we didn't notice. Our flight had to be rescheduled 4 times the day before and we got in to the city in the wee hours of the morning. We weren't offered any portion of refund and also had to buy the audio guides and tour ourselves.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about the travel disruptions you experienced prior to your tour, it sounds like a challenging start to your trip.
Regarding your visit, as outlined in the booking details, all guests are required to arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Unfortunately, due to strict entry regulations and timed group access to the Vatican Museums, we’re unable to accommodate late arrivals or allow guests to join once the group has departed.
We understand how disappointing this can be and appreciate your understanding, as these policies are in place to ensure the tour runs smoothly for all participants.

It’s quite a long tour, but excellent our guide was very informative.
Wear comfy shoes and bring water.
LoraHuber_B, Apr 2026
Excellent tour guide! He was knowledgeable and kept the tour going at a nice pace. Very courteous and friendly. Allowed time for questions and always seemed to have the answer. Thank you!
Michele_T, Apr 2026
It was everything and more you would want to know about the Vatican City. A sacred place full of history, reverence, art works and of course Michael Angelos painting of the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel.
Our guide Amy from City Wonders Tours had the expertise, professionalism and warmth that made the tour so special.
Veronica_O, Apr 2026
Flavia was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable about the vatican and made the tour fun. She took time to answer questions and made sure everyone was able to keep up and not get lost.
William_S, Apr 2026
Luciana was outstanding. She did a good job managing our group, the time, crowds, and slower group members. Very well informed, good command of English, a delight to be with. We highly recommend her.
Herman_E, Apr 2026

Marina was a fantastic tour guide.

What an amazing tour with Giuseppe! We really got an immersive experience in the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Giuseppe was so knowledgeable and friendly and kept us moving quickly through the crowds. Would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants an easier experience getting into the Vatican and who wants to learn a lot about the history of the Catholic Church/Rome.

We thoroughly enjoyed our small-group tour with Laura. She gave lots of interesting information and was concerned about the well being of those in the group. One woman had trouble with stairs and needed to sit and Laura always looked out for her, pointing out places to sit and finding a shortcut without stairs. The 3 hour tour was a great amount of time for a sampling of art in the museum. You’d want a different tour for a more in-depth experience. Also, the downside of the tour was that it was wall-to-wall people, but that’s not reflective of the tour company. If you have flexibility of when to go, go during a low tourist point.
Lisa_B, Apr 2026
Glad we went in April. I can’t imagine being there in the Sumer. Lorenzo was a great tour director. Very passionate about history.
Jaime_B, Apr 2026
Amy was an absolutely fantastic tour guide at the Vatican! Her wealth of knowledge truly brought the history and art to life, and her friendly, engaging personality made the entire experience even more enjoyable. She was incredibly knowledgeable and answered every question with ease and enthusiasm. Thanks to Amy, my husband and I—visiting from Texas—created memories that will last a lifetime. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable tour. Best 3 hours of our trip! Five stars!

Best way to see these sites - David was an excellent tour guide and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience!
joanna_h, Apr 2026
This is a great way to visit for the first time, a good overview of everything with the chance to stay on & see more after the tour. Be prepared for lots of walking & steps but it is well worth it & the skip the line - line is definitely a must.
We struck lucky with our tour guide Amy, amazing knowledge, shared in a clear & engaging way- with a great sense of humour added in! 5 ⭐️ for Amy.
Laura_M, Apr 2026
Amazing tour. Laura, our guide was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable and made sure we saw all the important highlights. Would have liked to be able to see the Hall of Animals but I understand time is of the essence.
Stacy_G, Apr 2026
It was the best tour we had. Our tour was 3 hours and our guide gave us so much information and details. He was great. Highly recommend a small group tour. Answered all of our questions
Stefanie_G, Apr 2026
Davide was very knowledgeable about so many details of the Vatican, museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s. There is a lot to learn packed into a few hours. Note that if you go this tour it does not include the St Peter’s Basilica dome climb, which you can pay for at the end and add on separately. You can also go below to the basement of St Peter’s to view the tomb and more interesting things. We were tired and hangry and didn’t realize that we could stay but if you think you may want to - plan accordingly. You can also remain on the grounds and walk around.
Joewin_J, Apr 2026
Ricardo is a great tour guide! We learned so much about the Vatican. I highly recommended this tour especially if you don’t want to waste time and focus on the highlights of Vatican
Jodie_T, Apr 2026
Really good tour bit misleading as it said st peters basillica was included but it wasn’t so disappointing
