The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Vatican Museums are visited by huge numbers of people each day, but with this handy Vatican tour—which includes priority access—bypass the worst of the crowds by entering with your guide through an exclusive entranceway.
The halls and rooms of the museum complex comprise miles of historic art and antiquities, but you go straight to the highlights, such as the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps, and the Pinecone Courtyard.
Continue to the Sistine Chapel, home of two of the most important frescoes of the Italian Renaissance. Learn about Michelangelo’s "The Last Judgement" and "The Creation of Adam" from outside the chapel (no talking inside), then head on in to admire the frescoes in person.
Follow your guide into St. Peter’s Basilica to see "La Pietà," another Michelangelo masterpiece, and learn about Bernini’s bronze altar. You can stay inside St. Peter’s Basilica after your tour ends, or head outside to St. Peter’s Square, where your tour ends.

- St Peter’s Basilica & Sistine Chapel are subject to last-minute closures for religious ceremonies. When this occurs, we're happy to offer customers an extended tour of the Vatican Museums. While we endeavour to tell tour groups ahead of time if there are any planned disruptions to the Basilica's opening hours, this is not always possible and in these cases we are unable to provide refunds or discounts.
- On Wednesdays, due to the Papal Audiences, access to St Peter's Basilica is not possible in the morning.
- St Peter's Basilica is not accessible on the express tours options
- Please be advised that access to St. Peter's Basilica will not be guaranteed unless the names of all participants in the booking are provided in advance. Was a really good tour but the earphones were a little hard to hear and kept falling off. We did the colosseaum tour and didnt have this issue
.
Otherwise the tour was great as was the guide, perhaps all headphones dont work so well in the vatican

The tour guide Sandra was amazing. She was informative and patient for a group of 20+. The only negative was that the whole thing was crowded. When you add that it was 90+ degrees it made it very uncomfortable.

It is very long walking and stairs. At 38C very hot with no AC so have fan. Guide was good and knowledgeable.

PG did a fabulous job on our tour. He had such vast knowledge of every little thing. We saw so much, it was amazing he could tell us about everything we saw. He wove in the history and made it very interesting, even for our 11 year old granddaughter. Very highly recommend this tour.

We had a great experience with this tour at the Vatican. It included the Vatican museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. The meeting point was easy to find, there was lots of staff there and we knew exactly where to wait for the tour to begin.
Our guide MairaGiovanna was lovely, knowledgeable and so interesting to listen to.
It also included the passage through to the Basilica. Would highly recommend !

The Vatican tour was a wonderful experience. We visited the Vatican Museums and the beautiful Sistine Chapel, and it was amazing to see so much history, art, and culture in one place. The tour was well organized and very informative. Definitely a memorable experience and well worth visiting.

We had a mixed experience with the private Vatican tour (up to 4). Booking through Viator was easy, and our CityWalks guide was kind, knowledgeable, and very attentive to our comfort: especially in the sunshine, making sure we had shade, bathroom breaks, and chances to rest.
However, the tour fell short in pacing, interaction, and personalization. We chose a private tour hoping for more conversation and a more tailored experience, but it largely felt like a standard group tour with only three people. The guide did most of the talking, moving steadily from one artwork or detail to the next, with little dialogue or opportunity to shape the experience around our existing knowledge or interests.
By about three hours in, we were just entering St. Peter’s Basilica. We asked to pick up the pace and skip less essential details, but the rhythm didn’t change, and we continued with long stops and detailed explanations esp about features that felt incredibly insignificant given the grandeur of St. Peter’s. We asked our tour guide again, and there was no adjustment. The tour also ran over an hour past its scheduled end and we left fatigued and drained.
While our guide was clearly caring and very knowledgeable about each item, the experience didn’t reflect what we hoped a private tour would offer: more conversation with us, flexibility of flow, and a stronger narrative structure. Instead, it felt cookie cutter and lecture-like. Given the high cost, we would not choose the private version again.

We loved Lorenzo. He was a very knowledgeable tour guide and made sure no one was left behind, which was difficult given how crowded the Museums and Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica were. Suggestion….plan to visit Vatican City in the Spring and not the summer. This was my 3rd Viator tour and their collaboration with the City Wonders tours is spot on❣️

I enjoyed our tour of the Vatican Museum and the Sisten Chapel and our tour guide Oksana was so wonderful and knowledgeable. You can see the passion she has for what she does. The only downside is that it states that Saint Peter’s Basilica was part of the tour but it does not. We were told to go walk up to the Basilica but once we got there we were told he had to stay in another line up which was in the unbearable heat for hours to get in. We thought by booking the tour we would be able to avoid this but no such luck.

Our tour guide was truly fantastic, but the express tour is VERY express. You skip several rooms of the museum and breeze by some very interesting spots. You can go back through after your tour is done, so it’s no biggie, but something to keep in mind.

Vatican tours can be very crowded and in summer, HOT. We had an excellent guide which made the tour exceptional despite big crowd and high heat and humidity.

Great tour of the Basilica, Sistine Chapel, and Museum. Francesca was very knowledgeable and was able to explain the sights and history is great detail. We were able to go back into the basilica after the tour to explore the crypts. Only negative is the earpieces. Some do not stay on, and you have to hold them. Would highly recommend Francesca.

It was so crowded. It was hot and we went on a guided your. We thought it would be less crowded. I felt like I was being bumped into, bumping into people myself, or just being coralled like cattle from one room to the next.
The ear piece was horrible. A number of us had issues with it staying on our ears. Just didnt fit, was stretched out or we just had ears not shaped correctly.
Paula was very knowledgeable and was good at keeping us together. She tried to find spaces where were were not surrounded and would share what we would be seeing. She knew her subject matter but so hard to hear even with a working earpiece.
