A complete waste of money

Rosemary_S, Apr 2026
“Dr Ali” was our tour guide and bus driver and the tour was like something from Fawlty Towers from beginning to end. He arrived 20 minutes late despite tour instructions asking you to be there 20 minutes early. We were all waiting for him in 30 degrees heat and when he eventually turned up there was not a single word of apology or explanation. Dr Ali’s bus was filthy, he didn’t look very clean and he mumbled unintelligibly while driving his rickety bus at tortoise speed. His delay meant we had limited time at mount vernon which was very frustrating. An expensive mistake.

Georges place

The home of the first President of the United States was very special. So much history and knowledge that we learned from that tour.

Review of visit to Mount Vernon

It was a great and very interesting place to visit. Our driver and tour guide was very informative and extremely obliging. He tried his utmost to take us back to our hotel in spite of numerous road closures. The tour was very well organised.

Mount Vernon - Yes Transport - Maybe Description-untrue

Craig_W, Oct 2024
The tour of Mount Vernon was great. The transportation experience from DC was below expectations. It was requested we show up at least 15 minutes early. Driver parked a block away and walked around the vehicle, walked all four corners of the intersection, washed his windshield, sat in the vehicle and then finally pulled up to the pickup point a little past the scheduled time. Drive was uneventful except for mundane descriptions by driver. We did not get to stop at Christ Church as described on the tour package description

Magical moments at mt. Vernon

Driver was knowledgeable, animated and on time. His name was Charles. He’s excellent! Washington ‘s mansion, grounds and burial place were incredible places to see. We ate at the farm to table restaurant enjoying Washington’s favorite selections. The tribute to the contribution of slaves was very important and moving!

Great trip to Mt. Vernon if you only have 4-5 hours

A nice trip to Mount Vernon from DC / perfect if you only have about 5 hours, Trip includes transport from the Hyatt hotel in DC (near the Capitol). Entry ticket and tour of Mount Vernon estate included. Free time available after the tour for lunch (not included) and to walk around the grounds.

Great job

The trip to and from Mount Vernon with Co was great. He provided us with useful information for the tour as well as general DC travel logistics. The open time on the grounds of Mt. Vernon was great balanced with a small group tour of the mansion. They could explain about the many other buildings on the grounds to provide tourists with a fuller picture. That is feedback for the museum itself. Viator did a great job.

Worth the trip!

Our driver Bobby was gregarious and knowledgeable. We had plenty of time to see Mount Vernon. The house is currently undergoing renovations and maintenance but we still saw all the rooms. The view from the back porch is remarkable. We saw the old tomb, the newer tomb, but I think the lost moving was the burial ground for the enslaved people of Mount Vernon. The graves are not marked but a number of them have been outlined with string and people are leaving painted rocks to commemorate the dead. Very touching. The gift shop is huge with very good selections of many different types of quality items. The restaurant, like the other museum restaurants we went to in DC is very average. The cheeseburger was - I’m not sure what it was. Icky. not enough gluten free options, although they offer a gf bun. I didn’t feel confident in their cross contamination protocol. They have a variety of bottled drinks, chips, desserts, etc. You won’t starve, but it’s mediocre and overpriced. Still worth a trip to see this important historical landmark.

Beautiful and interesting day discovering Mt Vernon

Mr Vernon and the museum are a beautiful tribute to our first president. The house has visitor guides in each room to help you discover and learn.

There is at least one bus in the fleet with no air

Jill_S, Jun 2024
Well, this was a lesson learned and has me rethinking Viator for Alaska and Italy. Reviews complained about a bus with no air. That is still the case for the bus we had. The driver sat up the road until 11am, we saw him for 20 minutes. Fair enough. But he knew the air didn’t work for the passengers. It was decent where he sat. When we loaded and a lady said the bus was hot he told her it was because the door had been open to let us on. All of about 1 minute. We knew it wasn’t from that. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to realize a few Minutes after being dropped off that we have other options. I emailed customer service and told them we would not be on the return trip. One 45 minute 90 degree (outside) trip was enough. We paid for an Uber back. The destination is nice. That’s bus should not be in service. After all the reviews of the same complaint, it bothers me that Viator still offers this tour. I may not be as lucky to have an Uber option for my next two destinations. I’m now going to go read all the reviews for our upcoming tours and learn from this lesson.

Amazing trip

Loved the narration from driver. Excellent trip, would definitely recommend it. Probably favorite place of entire vacation.

Unacceptable bus condition: no AC from the beginning

Angela_P, Apr 2024
Our tour guide was good and knowledgeable and Mount Vernon was beautiful. However the transportuon was less than ideal. The bus was dirty (I found used Kleenex on my seat), and the worst part was that the bus AC did not work, making the trip was extremely uncomfortable. The house tour felt very rushed as the guides would not generally wait until everyone was in the room to start the the explanation. A big disappointment.

Great

Historically beautiful

Christine_M, Jun 2022
The thought of being in the very house our first president lived and died in was unimaginable. Being able to touch the very bannister he and so many others touched was like being transported in time. Truly awesome!!
