    No night tour

The driver was very informative. At Mount Vernon we were on our own except for the house. The. We were supposed to have the night tour but never received any information about it at all and when the Mt Vernon tour ended we were told there was another hour and a half Before the night tour and we didn’t even know where to find it.

    A history lesson on wheels

    Dillon_D, Nov 2023
Buckle up, because this tour was a wild ride through history with a dash of chaos! The guides were like walking encyclopedias, dropping historical gems like they were going out of style. Easy to find, just like that lost sock you've been searching for - a small group setting made it feel like an exclusive knowledge party. But oh boy, the break between Mt. Vernon and the night tour was longer than a Monday! It felt like waiting for the punchline of a joke that never came. Surely they could nudge the two tours closer together…? The day guide used a microphone and was great at pointing buildings out with small stories to accompany. The night guide was yelling out facts like they were trying to win a loudness competition, it was like a history-themed drive-by. As for the driving, let's just say these guides treated red lights like they were mere suggestions. It was like being on a roller coaster without the safety harness, just a bit too thrilling for my taste. In the end, this tour was a mix of historical highs and comedic lows - a real-life history lesson on wheels!

Long and not a tight schedule.

The trip started late after asking us to arrive early. The time-line needs to be easily stated in the description. We had 20 minutes after Mt Vernon to use restrooms and get something to eat for dinner before going out for the lights at night tour. We had 2 different tour guides who mentioned property costs, jobs, and inappropriate information for a vacation tour. We felt it was too long in Alexandria winding in tight streets. We understand traffic delays, but had no idea what the scheduled time was to end. We were told 1.5 hrs for dinner and had 20 minutes to grab snacks and sandwiches, which we couldn't eat on the bus. Expectations and reality did not match.
