The Washington Monument requires all guests to go through physical security screening to access the monument. The security line normally takes around 15-30 minutes but can be even longer on major holidays.
The Washington Monument operates in rain or shine.

The inside of the monument does not allow smoking, vaporizers, e-cigarettes, food and drink (except water in clear bottles), large bags, or weapons.
The Monument is wheelchair accessible
Strollers are not permitted inside the Monument. You must leave the stroller in the designated, unattended parking area outside, often near the entrance or along the side of the building.

Contact with Viator was almost non existent. My tickets did not come to my email. After finally getting an agent, they had to be sent to WhatsApp. We did not get to enjoy our visit, as the air conditioning went out and the building was closed. All this at the last minute after we had waited an hour. Will NEVER use Viiator again.

A view like no other!

Beautiful view from the top of the monument. No bathrooms onsite and the viewing space is limited which was expected.

Very smooth process, great tour, only waited 10 minutes on the 250th weekend. Hundreds of others were disappointed because they were sold out. Excellent!

We purchased tickets & it was THE easiest experience. We walked up to the monument & there was a ranger. We told him our time slot & he directed us where to sit until our time. He called for our time & we went right inside. It was SO easy. And, the views from above the Washington Monument were AMAZING! I highly recommend purchasing tickets as it is easy & NO wait for lines for tickets. My kids LOVED the experience.

The skip-the-line tour to see the Washington Monument was canceled due to the heat according to the tour guide (he called my phone). He never offered to cancel the trip, rather said it was the Washington Monument plus a walking tour and he wanted to take us on a walking tour of the National Mall. We politely went with him until we realized it was too hot. He was very knowledgeable. The trip was advertised by Viator as a one-hour skip-the-line tour of the Washington Monument. Did the Parks Service really cancel the tours to the Washington Monument? We are disappointed the tour turned into something else and we had no choice to cancel.

What a Ripoff!!!

You don’t get a refund even if the venue cancels the tour for no good reason. You show up on time in good faith having paid good money and the venue is closed for the day. There were no thunderstorms forecast for anytime during our booked date. The sky was blue as ever for the entire day. $68 down the drain and no way to recoup it because Viator still keeps the money even if the experience is cancelled. Ripoff!!!

Monument Closed Due to Heat

We walked over a mile to the Washington Monument only to find that it was closed due to high temperatures. We received no notice of this and I was unable to find anything online indicating that the monument was closed..

I did not want to deal any longer with daily trying to the free ticket & the $1 fee via Recreation.com. Must plan early. So, I bought the ticket, but got nervous that was a scam. With the HOT weather, I did not want to head out to the Washington Monument lodge daily for any available tickets. Then finally, after a couple of calls, I did get an email with the ticket. The problem, in this email was not very clear. I had to carefully read the email, then click on the link, THEN the ticket came up.

Only go in the morning during summer. They have closed the monument in the afternoon for Extreme weather- Heat. Your at 3:30, they're at 3- monument was shut down at 2.

There was no guide at the meeting location. I did not receive a guide book. The Park Ranger would not accept the ticket that I received. She said that I should have received a ticket from recreation. I am requesting a full refund of the money that I paid.

The venue shut down with no notice and no signage to let folks walking up from a distance that it was closed and tickets were canceled. Also tour company did not relay closure info AT ALL.

These robot ticket buyers scrape up all the free tickets as soon as they become available. So if you want to go into the monument, you have to pay $18 for a emailed PDF “self guided tour” book. Complete BS. But, I wanted to go. Got there and the monument was closed due to weather, extreme heat. Guess what, no refunds from Viator. I wish companies like this would be shut down.

Delivered our tickets quickly and they worked great. Be aware of closures to sites in DC, because they close with NO notice. We showed up early at 11:15 for our 12:15 and got in, but we were the LAST group of the day. Had we arrived on time they would have been closed due to 95 degree weather. We got NO notification from the tour group

Never use Viator. You cannot contact them directly when things go wrong on their end. The Washington Monument, which I prepaid for, was closed and the Tour people wouldn’t help and directed us to Viator. Viator has no method of contact

Excellent experience from start to finish! The view from the top was superb! Made the walk to the Mall Grounds look easy. But the walk was a real slog in the heat:-(.

It was easy and convenient and we over the monument tour. Check the messages portion of the app for your tickets. I kept getting vouchers and the link saying my tickets were here took me to the voucher, and I went to message the company about my tickets and there they were in the inbox.

This was a terrible experience. We bought tickets for a 9:30 tour the next day. We received an email with a barcode, but the email also specifically said that the barcode could not used for entry -- instead we would receive a separate email with a QR code for entry. That email never came. As soon as the office opened (9:00), we called the number included on the email. I spoke to someone directly who said they would send the QR code through What's App. The QR code never came. When I called back, nobody picked up. I called multiple times. I would not recommend using this company.

We never received our tickets or booklet. We did speak to the rangers at the Washington monument and showed them our paperwork. The rangers were kind enough to work us in.

Occasionally, these emails may be filtered into spam or junk folders, or travelers may inadvertently view only the booking voucher rather than the attached admission documents. Viator sold us fraudulent tickets

Turned out to be a scam. We presented our QR codes at the base of the Washington monument to the national Park service officer and when they scanned them they said they had already been used that day by somebody with a completely different name. The Park service went on to say this happens a lot with viator, and they have even sent a formal cease and assist letter to the company. They had had several already this morning in the same situation who are The QR codes were already used by other individuals. I have already processed a fraudulent refund chargeback on my credit card.

This is a self guided tour. Tickets are free on the parks website. The opportunity to go up the Washington monument is great. However tickets are free from the parks website. The park rangers hesitated when I told them that I had purchased these tickets online. I was concerned they were not valid tickets. The tickets worked and we were able to experience the monument. However it is the same experience as the free tickets from the national parks website

Experience was awesome...once we got in

I showed up to the Washington Monument with every number, text, email, link to tickets, vouchers (where link to tickets brings you), that was available to me and they would not let us in with the QR code ticket. With about a minute to spare (30 min grace period past the time we were kicked out of line), I finally got ahold of someone who could only use WhatsApp to send me right tickets. Fortunately, I used WhatsApp once a hundred years ago and was able to get the tickets and salvage a disaster for my family. Highly stressful and really unecessary. The link that says tickets should just bring up the tickets you need to get in. That shouldn't be too much to ask. Other travelers should know they need a QR CODE. They don't care about anything other documentation.
