When you book with Viator, expect to be on your own to figure things out. Absolutely horrible experience and would never recommend them. Plenty of other services.

The flies were amazingly horrible. We went on the boat and immediately returned on the next boat. This was a waste of money. They should warn people about these seasonal flies so that we can prepare with the right clothes. I was very disappointed in this whole experience.

Great experience. Would highly recommend speaking to the oldest in mate in there and having a photo and book signed by him. He was great to chat with him and listen to his real life experiences.

This is not a private Alcatraz tour much less an Alcatraz tour. The is a tour where flies land on you constantly while a recording tells you you about the San Fran bay

I showed up on time and there was no tour at the 4:00 time that I paid. Viator for. In fact, I showed my Viator reservation to the person working at the destination where my “Tour of Alcatraz” was supposed to disembark from, and the person communicated with me “I don’t know what this is, but we don’t have any boats leaving at this time, our boat left ten minutes ago.” I would like my money back for this tour.

It was awesome. Our tour guide was fabulous. He customized the trip based on what we wanted to see. He was extremely knowledgeable. We got a great informative/educational tour and saw so much!!!!

The History of Alcatraz and all the events that occurred when Alcatraz was in operation is well with the time. We met an actual inmate who was in the book store for a book signing.

Arrive about thirty minutes before the appointed time and have several ways to identify yourself. Get in line early to be able to choose where to sit on the ferry. Be ready to either climb or take the tram. Inside looks disgusting as one can only imagine being incarcerated here. The surroundings are beautiful but very cool in the summer especially if the temperatures over the hills is 80 are above.

Bad experience. Audio guided tour is not necessary. Audio is provided by the National Park Service at no extra fee inside the building. It is not necessary to have audio service outside the buildings. Moreover, tickets can be easily purchased at many kiosks in piers.

This sucked. The audio tour is just available when you get to Alcatraz. You aren’t required to stay with a group and there’s no benefit to having the app (which also sucks). Important also to note, the device freely handed out is more interactive than the app and the man’s voice is very annoying.
Buy a ferry ticket and do your own thing — or take the audio tour the Parks Service provides. There’s nothing to gain from buying this inflated package.

We were not able to go on this tour due to NOT receiving a QR code. The tour company does not accept a booking or confirmation number. The language on your voucher only told us to purchase ferry tickets. This is not sufficient to get a ferry ticket. We wasted money trying to use your services. Go straight to Alcatraz site and buy your tickets!

I purchased three of these and never received a link to try to connect to the audio tour. I never received any instructions I continually tried to contact via tour and was not able to get to anybody for assistance. I've sent chats I have called I have tried to reach them because we never got this to work and ended up having to use headsets instead at the facility for a different tour. Very unfortunate this is my first terrible experience on Viator and to say it was frustrating is minimizing how I feel about this.

We loved this experience, really an incredible part of SF. This was our third time visiting the city, but everytime we tried to go it was sold out. We were finally able to go, and the app and audio was spot on!

The tour team failed to book my ferry ticket and there were none left to purchase by the time we realized. I was the only one in my group that didn’t get to go on the tour. They weren’t able to rectify the situation when I got in contact with them. Worse, based on other reviews it seems like this is a common problem for them.

You pay for this excursion and then end up using the headsets that everyone gets else for free. I wouldn’t bother paying for the extra information that was provided via this excursion. There was not a seamless flow from point to point on the audio provided by the audio for this tour. We loved Alcatraz, but felt like we put out more money than was necessary

The web site was deceiving. It said your experience starts at the pier 33. This leaves the assumption that the ferry was part of the trip. The next morning you send a text we need to get a ferry ticket too. The problem is the ferry was fully booked and there was no way to go.
Will not use you company again. Waisted $50 for your product and couldn’t even go.
What a scam.

This was a complete waste of time and money. The tour requires you to download an app. Using an iPhone 15 Pro, it was unable to accurately track our location and consequently gave information not appropriate to the areas we were in. The app was clumsy and not intuitive. Their “support” was so slow that we were an hour into the journey before responding to our request for help. The narrator spent more time telling you how much you were going to enjoy it rather than providing useful information about what you were actually looking at. The app is trash and the tour was useless. Alcatraz provides a free audio tour inside the cell block which is included with the Alcatraz ticket. Do yourself a favor, and just buy the ferry and Alcatraz ticket and use their free audio tour… It’s cheaper and better than this tour.
