This is a 2+ hour walking tour of Fisherman's Wharf. At the end of it, you have to wait in a very long line to board a ferry boat to Alcatraz. By the time we arrived at Alcatraz, we were tired of walking. If you want to walk Fisherman's Wharf and that's what you want, go for it. If your main objective is to go and explore Alcatraz, skip this tour. Not sure if there is a skip the line to Alcatraz, but if there is, book that instead, or book your Alcatraz direct and go early.

Thanks for reaching out. Alcatraz is a popular tourist destination so unfortunately there can be a line to board the ferry. There is no option to skip the line for the ferry.

My family of 4 took the Fisherman’s Wharf Tour with Alcatraz through Viator, and our guide was Jaime Lasher with ExperienceFirst. We’ve done a lot of tours through Viator in many cities around the world, and Jaime stood out as one of the best guides we’ve had. Born and raised in SF, and a graduate of Berkeley, Jaime really knows the SF area, and takes the tour guide role seriously. The tour is not a canned presentation, but a walking narrative of SF through his own eyes, based on years of first hand experience and research. I used to live in SF, so I’ve been to Fisherman’s Wharf many times, but on our tour, I learned so much about the area that I’d never heard before. For my wife and kids (age 7 and 9), almost all of the content was new. Jaime brought The Wharf to life, explaining not only the history, but how the area has evolved over the last decade. I enjoyed talking to him in between tour stops, asking questions, and getting first-hand perspective of the city. Jaime offers multiple tours around SF, and if possible, I’d recommend trying to land him if you can. The guide makes all the difference, and he is one of the best. Alcatraz was nice too, but the Wharf Tour was the highlight of the experience.

Our wharf tour guide was late and did not have a sign letting us know who he was. In fact he was not easy to locate at all. One lady from our tour was running around everywhere frantically looking for him because she was afraid she missed him. The only way I knew who he was, was because as he took his jacket off I saw the words experience on his jacket sleeve. He was very knowledgeable and he took us to a lot of places, however, u could not ask questions. When my husband tried the guide was very snappy and rude. He told us how to get our Alcatraz tickets, but he was wrong. So that was an ordeal to get them. But, once we got them, Alcatraz was great. My only complaint about the Alcatraz tour was the headphones section was a little bit confusing. It was still beautiful there, the park guides were funny and knowledgeable. We loved the bay tour. That was great. Lots to learn, beautiful views, it was great!

Robert was a great tour guide along Fisherman's Wharf. Very friendly and knowledgeable about San Francisco. He gave us good recs for local restaurants and places to spend more time at. After the tour, he made sure we got to the ferry to go to Alcatraz where we explored on our own. The lines were long to board the ferry and we actually missed the 11:30 boat, but we were able to board the next one at 12:00, no problem. That wasn't our guide's fault. Highly recommend this tour.

We had an amazing time on this bike tour led by Aaron! Aaron was such a wonderful guide. He was quite smart and very knowledgeable about the history and local politics of San Francisco and shared lots of interesting information. He enjoyed questions and added some good humor and cared about the well-being of everyone on the tour. My youngest son was a tad slower so we were at the end the whole time, and he always checked on us. My oldest son had a wipe out and he helped him with neosporin and care while we caught up to them. The overall length of the ride was around 9 miles. You are not just crossing the bridge. You are also biking TO the bridge from the rental place, which is about 4 miles, and biking into Sausalito afterwards. But, we LOVED those parts and got to see parts of San Francisco we had not yet seen, as well as some beautiful views. There is quite a bit of uphill riding, so you do have to be in semi good shape. If not, spend the extra money on the e-bike. The people with the e-bikes had no trouble at all. Several of us without the e-bikes had to walk our bikes up the hills. Riding on the bridge was super cool and when you get to Sausalito, the town is stunning. You can eat a lovely lunch there with gorgeous views of the bay. What a cute little town! We took the ferry back with our bike, as riding back sounded exhausting after the ride there, but we felt really good about ourselves making it all the way there! I can’t emphasize enough how much different biking across the bridge it is than driving. The fresh wind in your face and the ability to really look up at the bridge is such an incredible experience that you don’t get while driving. Even with the fog, it is breathtaking. This was such a memorable experience. Aaron was the absolute best guide! I hope you get him when you book this essential tour! VERY Highly recommended!!!

Our tour guide for Fisherman's Wharf, Robert, was great. It was very informative. I felt like he gave us great historical information and current events around that area. He was very funny and it seemed like he loved his job. The tour of Alcatraz was nice. The boat ride over was comfortable and our experience was wonderful.

The walking tour was great. There is so much to see at Fishermans Wharf and there is so much more tucked away from plain sight. The history of the area is interesting and our guide was a natural story teller. I loved it.

Our guide Seth made this tour worth every penny and then some! As a teacher, I admire his passion for his city, his ability to communicate that to the guests and his fun conveyance of the info. Had a great time and highly recommend his tour. He’s a neat guy.
