Colosseum arena tour was great. The tour guide makes a big difference. Ilariya was our guide and she made the entire tour fun. She gave a lot of history in the most engaging way - she made people in the tour act out parts of her narration. Although It was wet and raining and cold the whole time, she made it fun, informative, interesting, and interactive. Kudos to her!

Our tour guide Illaria made the tour lively and inclusive to everyone. She provided details and comparison from past to present for each site. She gave us examples that is easy to understand and was very accomodative to all our questions. The tour is usually a small group of 13-15 travelers but I got lucky to be included to a group of 5. Highly recommended!

Itinerary

This tour makes a comprehensive visit to Rome’s Colosseum as easy as possible and grants exclusive access to the Colosseum arena floor, which is usually off-limits to regular visitors.

Follow your guide through the ground floor and second level while listening to detailed accounts of the historical games and battles.

Continue to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the birthplace of Rome, and spend about 45 minutes touring each attraction before finishing the tour at the Forum.

  • • Toilets are limited, use the toilet before arriving for the tour. (Breaks made when possible)
  • • No weapons (pocket knives), glass bottles or large backpacks
  • • Tours will run rain or shine (unless closed for safety reasons)
  • There are mandatory security checks al all entry points to the sites. The wait time time for the security check can be considerable during peak times/seasons and has nothing to do with the ticket line
  • The names provided at the time of the booking cannot be changed.
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 25 travelers

Our tour of the Colosseum was easily one of the highlights of our trip. What really made it special, though, was our tour guide (Bogdan) He was incredibly knowledgeable but never overwhelming—he had this great way of bringing history to life with stories that actually stuck. What stood out most was his sense of humor. He kept the whole group laughing throughout, which made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable rather than like a dry history lesson. Even during the more detailed parts, he kept things engaging and easy to follow. You could tell he genuinely loved what he was doing, and that energy made a huge difference. The time flew by, and we came away feeling like we’d learned a lot without ever getting bored. Highly recommend this tour—especially if you get a guide like him!

Great to be with a group and skip long lines during a busy season! Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. We loved the visit to the floor and seeing various views from inside the Colosseum. It is a must see! When finished, walk a bit and find restaurants not surrounding the busy area. Worth a few extra steps!

Tour was amazing. Guide Max was knowledgeable and accommodating. I have a torn Achilles and he made sure that I could keep up. He also had a problem with a guest which I think he handled with professionalism. I have over 30yrs in hospitality at senior management level in corperate restaurants, so I can recognize situations. Max was perfe t in his ha doing and offered several options for resolution.

Dress for the occasion expect a good bit of walking. Be open to learning and asking questions about the history you’ll be surrounded by, its goes by so quick so make your memories count! Also Max was a great tour guide so if you get him you’ll be in great hands

This was the absolute worst tour I have ever been on. The guide was fine, but the lines to get in with our tickets was horrible. Why pay for our tour to skip the line with our guide to have to wait over one hour to get into the colosseum. I am going to miss my next tour because of this. I want a refund.

Not informative, same random info was given five times. All of us from the US to the UK could not understand what the guide was saying. The accent was so heavy it was barely intelligible. English really wasn't enough to give us proper info.

Great tour with Joya loads of great information shared at 2 amazing sites be prepared for quite a lot of walking but very worth it. Joya lived up to her name full of interesting facts and endless energy.

It was a little difficult trying to find our meet up point at the beginning because there was a fun run of 4,000 people taking off from the meeting spot. However, they had representatives in red jackets getting the tour groups into the right spot so once we found them, the rest went smoothly. Our tour guide was incredibly informative and it was easy to hear her on the earpiece. She gave us plenty of time for pictures at key locations. The "skip the line" upgrade was totally worth it as we bypassed many people and kept moving forward. Prepare for a lot of walking. I felt this tour was well worth the time and money for myself, husband and our 3 children ages 15, 18 and 20.

The check-in process was quite disorganized. My advice- wait at the point sent to you by email, check in with others to see who may be in the same tour as you. Stick together. Once the tour got underway, Max was great. We loved the headphone. Fast pace, so keel up. Max shared a lot of very interesting and helpful info; good humor as well. Max was a good guide. Be prepared to move fast, stick with your group. It’s easy to get separated with the crowds.

Shockingly bad. Tickets provided were invalid and was refused entrance until we purchased replacement tickets at the booths for full price. Viator should ensure they are using reputable tour providers. We now have to attempt to get a refund and I’m not hopeful. On a positive note the tour guide tried all she could to help

Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and brought great energy to the experience, engaging with the group in a fun and personable way. The tour covered all the sights we were expecting, though it did run about 40 minutes longer than scheduled. It’s worth noting that this tour may not be ideal for travelers with mobility issues, as it moves at a moderate pace with limited opportunities to sit and rest. I’d also recommend bringing water, since we didn’t come across any places to purchase drinks along the way. Overall, the tour was exactly as described and met our expectations.
