Thank you for joining us and for sharing your experience afterward! We’re glad the day gave you plenty to enjoy and a few new things to remember about the city. We’d be very happy to welcome you back to Secret Food Tours.
Tour guide, Kristy, said this was her side gig and she didn't do it routinely..and it showed. She arrived at 11:10 for a schedule 11AM tour ( without the promised orange umbrella). Unlike past tours I've taken, this tour operator didn't seem to have a relationship with the eateries, so no reserved tables or cutting the line to order or even an awareness that we were coming. The 2 locations that did have seating, we the group scrambled to find tables/chairs. The other locations we were eating on the street. Kristy stood in line to order at each location. So, after arriving late, then standing in line for 10-15 minutes and returning with a small piece of cold focaccia bread with no beverage, the tour really didn't start until closer to 11:30. The only beveraged offered at any stop was tap water. 5 scheduled stops, 2 were bakeries & 1 was a chocolate shop, so not my idea of a "food tour". And, 1 of the bakeries was closed. According to a homeless person outside, the employees would be back shortly. Kristy continued with the tour doubling back about 10 minutes later, still closed. She took us to what she called the "backup" bakery, also closed. Kristy then asked the group what we should do, eventually she decided to skip the stop. This stop was a Mexican bakery and we'd passed other such open bakeries, so I can't understand why we didn't visit one of them. Kristy spent a fair amount of time on her phone. The tour took us by a Buddhist temple which Kristy talked about, but surprisingly not by the mission for which the neighborhood is named.

The history of the area was really great . I liked learning about the Mission District and the murals. The food wasn’t amazing and the tour started off with too big of portions. But for the history of the area it was worth it.

Great tour of the Mission district with authentic food and wonderful murals. Jamie, our guide, was a wealth of local knowledge and we had great fun chatting to him. Our group was only 5 people which made the tour a lot of fun full of great information about this area of SF.

Loved the whole experience. Mark our guide was very knowledgeable and walked us through the history of Mission street and introduced us to the delicacies! My 18 and ten year old kids enjoyed it as much as us adults. Will recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about the food and history of SF
Response from Host, Apr 2026
We’re glad this made its way to us. It’s always a good sign when guests walk away satisfied with how everything came together. Secret Food Tours would be happy to host you again!
This was a very good introduction to Mission district history, architecture, murals, and food. Mark was very knowledgeable about the different food types. Mexican, Brazilian, Filipino, etc. Personally, I liked the lectures more than the food, but the food was good.

Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable as she provided historical information regarding the food and the surrounding areas. She did give us a lot of history about the murals in the mission district. However, the food was not something to rave about. We felt like the price wasn’t worth the quality of food we received.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hi Nancy, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It is great that your guide made a positive impression and brought the Mission District to life through its history and murals.
When it comes to the food, our tours are thoughtfully curated to reflect the character of the neighborhood and to showcase a range of local flavors that represent the area’s culture and everyday food scene. Many guests appreciate that balance of storytelling and authentic bites, though we understand that expectations around value and personal taste can vary from person to person.
Your feedback is appreciated and will be shared with our team as we continue refining the experience we offer in each city.
We would be glad to welcome you again on another tour and provide a different perspective of what we do.
Jaime was a great guide and companion on this tour. In spite of a scheduling mixup, not his fault, it all worked out better than expected. We really enjoyed his detailed knowledge of the Mission and his easy going sense of humor. The food was terrific, the murals fascinating and it was a special experience we highly recommend.

We had a really great experience on this food tour. We chose the North beach and Chinatown version. It was a lot of history about San Francisco and the food choices were great. Everything we ate was delicious and we enjoyed learning more about this city. Our guide Dara was so knowledgeable and professional.

We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the Mission district of San Francisco on this walking food tour. From the Latin American food to the beautiful street art and murals, we felt immersed in the rich and unique Mission culture. Our guide, Jamie, shared cool facts about the area and personal anecdotes along our tour which made it very special informative and enjoyable. Despite the rainy day, we had a wonderful experience!

Alot of walking of course. Not too many hills. There are alot of great things surrounding the environments so make sure to look around. The food is amazing! You will be down town so make some time afterwards to explore more of the city. Our tour Guide Dominica is well traveled and prepared. She was very positive, upbeat and engaging. 10/10 I've been in the area for about 5yrs and I went with a local native and we both learn new things about the city and our surroundings!
