  • Delays or diverted arrivals In case of delayed disembarkation, changes to the docking time or significant delays in leaving the ship, the customer must inform Discover Italy as soon as possible in order to check the possibility to wait or reschedule the service without extra costs. If Discover Italy is not available to wait or reschedule due to operational reasons and/or no timely communication is received, the service may be considered a no-show, and no refund will be due.
  • General information According to Italian law, it is strictly forbidden to place luggage inside the passenger compartment. In case of extra or oversized baggage that does not fit in the trunk, the driver may refuse the service for safety reasons and no refund will be due. Any additional costs incurred due to extra baggage (for example upgrading to a larger vehicle, arranging a second vehicle or storage) will be borne by the passengers and must be paid on the spot. In the event of malfunction, technical failure or damage, the assigned vehicle may be replaced with another of the same or higher category/quality level.
  • Important – Transfer options and routes Many of our transfer services offer different route options so you can book the solution that best fits your itinerary. For this product, typical options include, for example: Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal ↔ Rome city center (hotel/apartment) Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal ↔ Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal ↔ Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA) Each option has a different route and a different fare. Please carefully check the options and notes provided in the product description before completing your booking, to make sure you select and pay for the correct route and vehicle type for your journey.
  • Contact details and meet & greet To ensure smooth meet & greet operations, we strongly recommend that at least one passenger provides a mobile phone number that is active and reachable in Italy (ideally the same number entered at the time of booking). We also highly recommend downloading and using the WhatsApp messaging app, which allows our ground staff and drivers to contact you quickly in case of any changes, delays or difficulties in locating each other. Discover Italy cannot be held responsible if passengers are unable to meet our staff or driver at the agreed meeting point due to being unreachable or not answering calls/messages.
  • Frequently Asked Questions (Transfer FAQ standard) – Is this a round-trip transfer? No. Each booking is for a one-way transfer only on the date you select. – If it’s a one-way transfer, why am I asked to provide both arrival and departure details? Our system is used for different types of transfers (arrivals and departures), and we are not able to predict which option you will choose. For this reason, the form may ask for more details than strictly necessary. Feel free to provide only the information that is relevant for your transfer (for example, your ship name and scheduled docking time, or your flight details if you are heading to the airport). Where a field is not applicable, you can simply enter “N/A”. – If I need a round-trip transfer, what should I do? You can easily book a round-trip by making two separate bookings, one for each travel date (outbound and return). – What time will I be picked up from the cruise terminal or hotel? The time you select during the booking process will be considered as your requested pick-up time. If you are not sure which time to choose (for example in relation to your ship’s disembarkation time or flight departure), you can contact us before booking and we will be happy to assist you in choosing the most suitable pick-up time. – I selected a pick-up time later than my ship’s scheduled arrival. Is that OK? Your driver will plan to meet you based on the original scheduled docking or disembarkation time indicated at the time of booking. Remember that you already have complimentary waiting time included in the price (up to 60 minutes for port arrivals), which is usually more than enough for disembarkation procedures. Please always select the time slot closest to your actual scheduled arrival time, not significantly later.

Missed meeting

Was never able to make contact with the driver at the cruise port. Victor needs a clearly marked meeting area rather that just a dropped pin on a map.

We are truly sorry for your disappointment; however, we must clarify that our driver was on-site and fully compliant with the scheduled service. According to the booking, your pick-up time was 08:00 AM. The driver sent you a message at 07:54 AM, informing you that he was approaching the security gateway, and then waited for you until 08:30 AM — well beyond the standard waiting time included in the service. Unfortunately, you never showed up. Our operations team also reached out through Viator messages and repeatedly tried to call your mobile number, which was constantly unreachable. We only received your message after 9:00 AM, over an hour past the scheduled pick-up time. We always provide a clear meeting point, along with the driver’s name and contact number, precisely to assist travelers who may have difficulty locating the correct area. In this case, the driver was waiting at the designated exit with a sign bearing your name — photos and call records confirming this have already been shared with Viator’s customer care. We kindly remind future guests to ensure their mobile phones are active and reachable while traveling, so our staff can promptly assist in case of any confusion. It is disappointing to receive a negative review for a situation that was entirely beyond our control, as our team did everything possible to deliver the service as planned.

Do not rely on this company to provide efficient transport. We waited 50 minutes outside the Cruise terminal for collection. Even though we had booked a terminal transfer the driver had been sent to a private address in Cittavicha. We were left standing in the heat with 4 over 80’s while my husband tried to find someone to translate where we were to the driver. When he finally turned up he was apologetic but not acceptable. We paid alot of money for this transfer to Rome and in all of our travels over last 6 weeks only time we have been let down.

This was a terrible experience that was well overpriced. I had put in the drop off location based on the general area from Airbnb I then showed the driver as he picked us up the actual street name and address, he was not interested even when I showed him directions. That being said we were forced to walk with our luggage around Rome which is a very unpleasant situation especially since we have a very young child. I would never book this company again for anything and there customer service is the worst. There are plenty of vans at the cruise port that will take you where you actually want to go for much less of a fee, also a taxi is less than half price from these guys. Totally overpriced and such a scam, when in Rome I guess.

We are disappointed to read your review, as it does not reflect the actual events. Your booking clearly indicated a drop-off point located in a pedestrian-only area. Our driver followed the address provided at the time of booking — this is exactly how a pre-arranged private transfer works. Only upon arrival did you present a completely different address. At that stage, it was not possible to alter the route or restart the service due to local traffic restrictions and the schedule agreed in advance. It is essential to provide the exact destination when making a reservation so that we can deliver the service as requested. Comparing our service to a taxi or spontaneous transport from the cruise port is misleading: private driver services operate under different rules, with fixed routes, pre-allocated time slots, and vehicles reserved exclusively for the client. While we regret that you felt inconvenienced, accusing our company of being a “scam” or “overpriced” is both unfair and inaccurate. We honoured the service exactly as booked, in compliance with the information you provided and the regulations in force.

This vendors won’t honor all flight delays!

Very disappointed in the restriction on flight delays cancellations by this vendor. Delayed three times from JFK and arrived later than permitted. No refund. Had to Uber and pay again. Not your fault u destined - but also not our fault!!! Won’t book with you again clients to do so.

It clearly refers to a flight arrival delay from JFK, whereas our booking was for a private transfer from Civitavecchia Port to Fiumicino Airport. We had no involvement in your flight arrangements, schedule, or any delays, and therefore cannot be held responsible for these issues. We are deeply disappointed that, despite promptly contacting the customer, the travel agent, and TripAdvisor/Viator customer care to explain the situation, no action has been taken to correct or remove this review. Allowing an unrelated negative comment to remain publicly visible not only misleads future customers but also unfairly damages our reputation—something we work extremely hard to protect through consistent, high-quality service. We strongly request that this incorrect review be removed without further delay.

Driver was early which was great because we were early getting off the ship. He had a sign with my name that made it quite easy ro find him. He quickly took our luggage and put it all in himself. He wanted us to be comfortable with the Air Conditioner and showed me where to use the controls. For some reason I thought he would speak fluent English. He did not. He spoke a little though. Driving in Italy is a bit crazy and I am always surprised at almost every driver weaving in and out and how close they drive to other cars. He did talk on the phone, which I don't like and I think in the future I should message ahead to please not talk. on the phone while driving in Italy because of their driving compared to the US.

Pick up at cruise port

We originally scheduled a 9:30 pick up at the cruise port. Viator changed it to 10am stating it was a busy port day with lots of ships. The driver showed up at 10:15. Due to this, we waited 1 hr 15 min vs 30 min for our scheduled pick up. Otherwise was good. Driver was nice and we had a safe ride.

Uncomfortable Experience

Driver was late. Other drivers arrived at our hotel PRIOR to pick up time. We were left standing alone for over a half hour. We got a call from Viator stating that there was traffic and he was on his way. Satisfying, but wasn’t there traffic for the other drivers, too? (After all, this Rome during rush hour.) Vehicle was old and “run down.” All other drivers were dressed in suits. Ours looked like a delivery man! Driver was friendly and spoke excellent English

I understand that arriving late and dealing with a driver can be frustrating, but it doesn’t really make sense to say that “the others were punctual,” because each driver follows a different service route and schedule. In your specific case, your driver might genuinely have done the best he could, given the circumstances. Rome can be quite chaotic—sometimes too much so—and there are situations we simply can’t predict or prevent.
