IMPORTANT: Access is restricted to Lahaina on the west side of Maui. The tour times provided reflect the start and end of the tour, but not your exact pickup and drop off time. Whether or not you've provided your hotel/lodging at the time of booking, you are required to contact the tour provider no less than (2) days prior to your tour date to receive your exact pickup time and location. The tour provider will advise you of the specific area at the hotel/lodging you should wait; for example "at the front entrance." Please be there at least 5 minutes before your pickup time. Please allow a 10-15 minute grace period, as the driver will be picking up other guests in your area. If your hotel/lodging is not included on our pickup schedule, you'll be advised to meet at nearby location. Please note that we are prohibited by certain properties to pickup non-hotel guests and we do not pick-up at private properties such as AirBnB's and residential areas.

This guided tour of the Hana Highway has photo ops around every turn, from thundering waterfalls and sweeping vistas to rural towns by the coast. Visit areas like Pai’a, Keanae, Wailua Falls, and Pua’a Ka’a State Park, and make a stop at Wai’anapanapa State Park—home to a black sand beach.
Aside from the unforgettable sights, you’ll hear how Hana has played an important role in Hawaii’s history, from being the birthplace of Queen Ka’ahumanu to home of the island’s first resort. Nearly 5,000 people inhabit the district from Keanae to Kipahulu, which generally falls under the “Hana district” that visitors know it today.

I only gave it a 4 star because it wasn't what Viator said it was when we called. We were expecting to go the whole way around on the road to Hana but only went to Hana and back. Wish we had more sight seeing stops.

It was a great experience, the buses where better than those vans the other tours usually put you in, and Salesi was a great tour guide, photographer, historian, friend, and cousin. The lunch at Hana Farms was better than expected! And when the tire went flat, Salesi went up and down to fix the situation, within two hours we were back in the road and still he managed to take to a one last spot.

Worth every dollar! Our driver/guide, Sale, was informative and entertaining every step of the way. A beautiful view everywhere you looked! Plenty of photo ops and sightseeing too, with opportunities to swim. We were well fed and the pizza lunch was excellent.

The road is has so many curves and twists that it can cause motion sickness for sure. I would recommend non-drowsy dramamine. Our guide Saleis was amazing, he distracted us from the curves with his stories and jokes. The beauty you will see is beyond comprehension. It is worth every curve. The beautiful flowers, birdsong and scenery are the trifecta for an amazing day.

The tour guide “Sale” from Tonga, was funny and entertaining. The experience is unique and not for the faint of heart. The views of the cliffs and the waterfalls were incredible.

Our tour guide “Sal” (Salesi) was fabulous at making this a memorable day— from stopping for the warm banana bread, pizza for lunch in a lush garden venue to sneaking a peak at the lounging turtles at the end. Plenty of breaks, local merchant stops, photo ops and leg stretching ops along the way. Loved it!

Salesi really made Road to Hana spectacular. His knowledge of the history of the land, his funny stories, his quick stops for amazing pictures and his final surprise of a beach filled with beach turtles, the day could not have been any better. It was a very long day, but Salesi did his best to make it a truly enjoyable one.
My only issue was the description said the trip would have 6-8 people but there was 22.

The only thing I would change is to have more time for photos!!! We missed the beautiful waterfalls and eucalyptus trees, pictures thru the van window were not very good!

The main thing that has lowered the star rating was the organisation pre tour. I had picked it as it offered a pick up at my hotel. I got a text while on a different tour the day before about the location of the pickup. When I got back I got WiFi and checked this was not near me- 40 minute walk away! I tried to ring number provided, closed. My hotel found another number still open but has nothing to do with transfers- they open at 5am but she had another couple of calls with same problem. I got up early and tried to ring from 5am, answer phone says open at 7am (tour 6:40). My hotel manager luckily offered me a lift to the meeting point. We then drove 20 minutes to the group meeting point at 07:00 near Kalhului in a supermarket car park, met tour leader and other the 4 on our tour. We had been swapped to another company ? because it’s a small group. We were meant to get a ‘to go’ breakfast pack here from another car, after 30 minutes waiting we were informed she had contacted the office- they were unaware a tour was out today, so someone would pick up the breakfast packs in around 10 minutes then a 20 minute drive to get here (this would have been 60 minutes waiting in a car park). We discussed our concerns about wasted time we didn’t want to miss out on tour (3 of us has eaten already 2 happy to grab food and did from supermarket), however we still did not leave until breakfast had arrived at 07:55. Breakfast was croissant, yogurt, apple and small banana bread- nice but not worth the wait.
We had a quick stop at some trees (beautiful colours), a banana bread cafe (yes we had some in long awaited breakfast box), and a sea view point.
Then we had our 2 swim stops, first only 20 mins second 40-45 mins. Both involved a significant part of the time to try to get in/out of the water. The first had 2 waterfalls and a bit of a rocky walk to get to the freezing water. The second was the beautiful black sands which had an easy cliff walk then stair to get down and back. Both stops needed longer to fully relax and not just go ‘see it’.
Our included lunch was at a pizza place- very tasty and enough pizza was left over.
Our last stop was the turtles (tour January ? Seasonal). I gave up counting at 50 on the beach. My favourite stop. But again only 15-20 minutes could have been longer for either watching the turtle, walk, swim.
Back to the car park at 4:10 and my apartment 4:40 (transfer driver not only brought be back to correct hotel but to my nearest entrance not the main lobby entrance- thanks).
Overall if the 3 main stops had another 20 mins that would have made coming back 5:40 still early and made a big difference on my enjoyment and not as rushed. If the pre tour was organised better I would have been in a better less stressed mood at the start to start enjoying the day sooner.
Both my guide and driver were lovely.

I did enjoy the trip however we did it not go to aunt Sandy’s and I did not like the banana bread from halfway to Hana. The surprise at the end was the da best though !

Our driver, Sale, was fabulous and stopped at all the places we wanted to see and the some! The bus was comfortable and we were picked up at our hotel, so no extra driving. I would highly recommend.

My wife & I had the pleasure of spending the day with our guide Sale’. He was very entertaining, knowledgeable & pleasant. He pointed out many interesting sights, plants & history. Continental breakfast, a delicious lunch & snacks included. We did a trip to Hana 10 yrs ago but this trip made more stops & many at places we had not seen before. I don't think you have to go back and forth about which tour to pick. Simply, pick this one with Polynesian Tours! We were blessed to have Sale as our tour guide. He made sure we got every nook of Road to Hana and really made the money we spent worth it. Sale has immense knowledge of Maui and everything on the road to Hana. Little things as simple as where to get the "I survived the Road to Hana" and he took us to places we are so grateful we ended up stopping at.
