Paia is a laid-back beach town that serves as the gateway to the Hana Highway. It’s known for its surfing scene, especially the world-renowned windsurfing destination Ho'okipa Beach Park. There are lots of great restaurants in Paia, especially Mama's Fish House and Paia Fish Market.

Paia is located on Maui's north coast and was once a booming sugar plantation town. It’s just 4 miles east of Kahului. Starting from Paia, it takes about 1.5 hours to get to Hana along the windy road.

The beaches are a big draw in Paia. Ho'okipa Beach Park is known for its windsurfing scene, while Baby Beach is preferred by families for its calm waters protected by an offshore reef. Baldwin Beach Park, a long, sandy beach with decent facilities, is an excellent place for an afternoon picnic.

It's tough to find a time of year when it’s not beautiful in Paia. There are fewer crowds during the shoulder seasons of April-May and September-November. Paia is great to visit in the summer as well, but you’ll have to deal with traffic and busy restaurants, and the drive to Hana might take significantly longer.
