Overview
The Hana Highway is one of the country’s most beautiful driving routes—and this full-day, small-group tour makes it simple to wend your way down the road, as well as visit other highlights of the region. Following morning pickup at your Maui hotel, travel in an air-conditioned vehicle and stop for a local breakfast. Then, continue on your way. You’ll drive the Hana Highway, to discover Wai'anapanapa State Park’s black-sand beach, Pua'a Ka'a for a waterfall swim, and a picnic lunch at a local flower farm.

Your hotel pickup will be between 15min and 1 hour prior to the "Tour Departure Time". Please contact our office for instructions to meet at one of our pickup points if you are staying in a private residence, in Upcountry Maui or at North Shore locations.

Travis was an incredible tour guide. In addition to knowing the road and each of its attractions like the back of his hand, we learned he was a certified lifeguard when he heroically saved a drowning woman’s life at the waterfall we stopped to swim at. We’re so grateful to have had him as our tour guide, the experience wouldn’t have been the same without him! The continental breakfast and hot lunch both exceeded our expectations. We also had lots of great opportunities to purchase gifts and treats along the way. Finally, we were very appreciative of Travis’s driving, which completely minimized the discomfort of the many turns and single lane bridges on the road. This tour will always be of our favorite memories on Maui!! - Young D

Our Road to Hana tour was an absolutely amazing experience! Travis went above and beyond to make sure everyone in our group felt comfortable, safe, and fully enjoyed the journey. He was extremely knowledgeable and shared so much helpful and interesting information throughout the tour.
What made the experience even more special was his willingness to make additional stops when requested. He was patient, accommodating, and genuinely focused on making the day memorable for everyone. Travis also supported our group during our stop at the waterfall, helping us feel comfortable as some members of our group went swimming.
His professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made this one of the highlights of our trip. We are so thankful for Travis and highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maui!
We had a great guide (Paula). It is a long day but saw awesome sites, multiple coastline, beautiful foliage, black sand beach, ended the day watching surfers and saw a large group of sea turtles resting on the beach. Over packed with swine ware that no one in our group needed. Awesome experience
We were not given Pick up timing in the morning, the driver just called us when he arrived at our resort , which was 45 min prior to our tour start time.
Also, the driver was not giving us time at a given location and was not patient enough to wait for all passengers to arrive back into the bus .
Our experience with Spencer was amazing!! He made sure we were comfortable and we had everything we needed. He shared the Hawaiian culture and everything he knew about the island. We loved learning about his experience as a child and his family. The way he navigated the roads to Hana was so seamless and made it seem so easy but we also could relax knowing he knew what he was doing. We would definitely recommend Valley Isle Excursions and specifically to request Spencer! The bus was also very comfortable.
The beauty on the Road to Hana tour is unbelievable! You are able to see parts of Maui that are not easily accessible on your own. The peace of mind and stress relief we got by letting Uncle Joe do the driving was worth every penny. Uncle Joe's friendly nature and his encyclopedia of knowledge was the best!! He will always be a special part of our Maui vacation.

The experience offers several great opportunities. We stopped at beaches, saw the painted trees, stopped at a waterfall were we could swim, a delicious lunch was provided, the road past a number of waterfalls, gorgeous scenery, and we stopped for the best banana bread. The road is very curvy and the person in our family who drives was able to enjoy this as much as the rest of us. We ended with seeing a large number of turtles.
Driver/guide Spencer did a great
Job of pointing out things only locals would know about. I’m glad I didn’t have to do the driving. Here’s also explained the proper etiquette for driving the Hana highway.

Spencer the driver was GREAT- friendly, accommodating, extremely knowledgeable , an awesome driver and having been born and raised here really helps. Valley Isle Excursions were great on the phone confirming pick up time, meal selections and answering a few questions. The food was good, stops well chosen and clean vehicles. Highly recommend..
Seeing road to Hanna was great. Our guide, Ká Ipo, was great, very knowledgeable! The sights were amazing and many stops for pictures, snacks and souvenirs.
I decided on a one day island hop to Maui, and researched several different tours. I'm really thankful I chose Valley Isle! I highly recommend the tour to Hana. Paula was a great guide. They had local knowledge of Maui, along with what I felt like was all the essential stops to Hana. Breakfast and lunch were awesome. Also, staff for company were very friendly and went above and beyond to meet my individual needs. Given the same chose again I would choose Valley Ilse!
A long but interesting tour. The food provided was definitely better than typical tour offerings. Also appreciated the vista to black sand beach and the freshwater pool!
Daniel, our guide, was excellent. He even had a soundtrack for the tour. He made the drive enjoyable which is hard to do bc the road to Hana is very windy. Lots of great stops to break it up and rest/restroom breaks. The waterfall is worth a swim, it’s amazing! We loved the tour very much.
Tour was worth the money to not drive and to have pro tips on what to see and do. Paula was a great guide, van was comfortable, food was good. Plenty of stops. Some confusion about pick up time and location, so be sure you are clear.
The stop at Waianapanapa State Park was AMAZING! The cliffs, black sand beach, blow holes, etc. we're so beautiful. Incredible Scenery!!
Also, the stop at the black rock beach with the waves crashing everywhere was awesome as well...and you get Aunt Sandy's famous Banana Bread there too.
Lastly, the stop at the North Shore where the views are great, and you get to see the surfers ride those big waves, and see a lot of Sea Turtles hanging out on shore together as well.
Our driver and guide, Travis, was fantastic! We had numerous and memorable stops at local shops along our way which was exactly what we wanted. We learned about Hawaiian history culture and some words and phrases. It could not have been better. AND he is an incredible driver navigating a windy rode. We ALWAYS felt safe. Do yourself a favor. Book this tour and request Travis.
We had an amazing tour! Travis was a wonderful tour guide, and he gave us ample time at each location so we didn’t feel rushed. He took pictures of my family, and he told us lots of interesting facts about Hana. He even made an extra stop at the end so we could see the sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs!
This is a must-do! We got so lucky and had Uncle Joe as our guide - he’s a true native Hawaiian and was so interesting to listen to. He was super experienced with the route and we felt very safe in his van. He stopped at all the best places and pointed out all of the vegetation and great spots to take pics. The breakfast and lunch were great and the scenery was amazing. Would 10/10 recommend!

Our guide was beyond fabulous, and really made this an experience to remember for a lifetime. His passion for a knowledge of Maui was incredible, and made everything more impactful for all of us.
Daniel was the most engaging and entertaining guide. It really felt that he was hosting us in his home. He was so knowledgeable and excited to share his world. It would be hard to pin down our favorite spot, but I guess it would be the waterfalls where we got to swim. What a day- we had a party of 11 ages 10-51 and everyone had an absolute blast!!
We had a great time on our road to Hāna tour. Yvonne was an amazing tour guide. Fortunately also we had a wonderful family on the tour. The trip was worth it , we had breakfast at a lovely plantation with great service and beautiful grounds. My only concern was I thought we were going to have lunch at a restaurant but the food was packed and served at a location by our tour guide.

This was the BEST Road to Hana tour I have ever experienced. Our tour guide, Joe ("Uncle"), made the entire trip. He was wonderful, knowledgeable, and kind. A true local - you can really tell how much he cherished the island; on every stop the people greeted him with so much love. Groups were small and intimate, so we were able to make bonds with other travelers (8 people in total for ours). We felt like a little family going on a road trip with Grandpa! One of my favorite things was learning about the diverse plant life; there were so many trees and flowers I had never known to exist or had seen before. Breakfast and lunch were fresh, healthy, and delicious. Other memorable stops included Aunty Sandy's Famous Banana Bread, the black sand beach at Wai'anapanapa State Park, and the freshwater waterfall where we plunged into 60 degree water 🥶 If you are considering doing a Road to Hana tour while in Maui, I strongly encourage you to consider booking with Valley Isle Excursions. The excursion on the Road to Hana is a must do! Request Travis as your driver, he’s a local guy who lived in Hana, knows its history and is well versed in the history of Hawaii and its culture; plus he’s fun to be with. He knows how to bring a group of strangers together, on a bus tour and they become “Ohana!”
The road has 54 one lane bridges and too many hairpin curbs to count. Be sure to look for waterfalls big and small and the black “diamond head snake.” Be sure to stop at Aunt Sandy’s Banana Bread, buy some it’s fresh and wonderful and very tasty. Enjoyed the black sand beach and swimming in the fresh water, waterfall. Our day is a trip to remember and Travis completed it with a peek at beached sea turtles and a winding down music selection of Somewhere Over the Rainbow 🌈.

Highly recommend! I never would have been able to see and learn all the things our amazing driver Joe shared with us. He was extremely knowledgeable and made our day very enjoyable.
Our driver, Travis, was excellent and he taught us Hawaiian. He pointed out waterfalls and gave us a lot of history of Hawaii
