Itinerary
Your morning begins with a convenient pickup directly from central Lisbon. In lieu of finding your own way on the train, enjoy a comfortable and scenic drive through the countryside, with just your local guide and a small group to accompany you.
On arrival at Sintra—one of Portugal’s foremost (and most-visited) UNESCO World Heritage sites—glide past the lines and head right in, thanks to your pre-booked tickets. Head straight to Pena Palace, known for its ultra-colorful design, where your English-speaking guide will share a wealth of stories about its history.
After enough free time to purchase your lunch (with optional baked goods from a traditional bakery) in Sintra’s city center, enjoy a bonus excursion when you head to the wild Atlantic coast. See pounding waves at Cabo da Roca—Continental Europe’s westernmost point—before heading to Cascais: one of the area’s top beach resorts.
Have more than one hour to see Cascais' Old Town, admire its marina, and treat yourself to gelato before returning to your original departure point in Lisbon.

I booked this as a solo traveler and honestly could not have asked for a better day trip. If you're debating whether to do Sintra and Cascais on your own vs. a tour, just book the tour, especially this one.
Our guide (I believe her name was Puri) was absolutely fantastic. Super knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great sense of humor. What really set her apart was how she brought the history to life, not just dry facts, but quirky stories about the king who built Pena Palace, fun details about the exotic plants in the surrounding gardens, and little architectural secrets you'd completely miss on your own. She made the whole day feel like a conversation, not a lecture.
We were a group of 6-7 people, well under the 8-person max, which made a huge difference. It felt personal, not like being herded around with a crowd. Puri was also flexible with the pace, which I appreciated. If you're going purely for the history and context, the timing is perfect. If you're more of a photographer who wants to linger at every angle, it can feel a little tight. But because the group was small, she was genuinely accommodating when people wanted a few extra minutes. I managed to get the best of both worlds.
We had tickets included for Pena Park and the Palace, which I highly recommend springing for. The architecture is unlike anything I've ever seen and you could spend hours just looking at the details on the facade alone. Every corner has something going on. The surrounding park and gardens are equally impressive, and Puri's commentary on the plants and the history behind the estate elevated it from "wow, pretty" to actually understanding what you're looking at.
Cabo da Roca was my personal highlight of the entire trip. Standing at the westernmost point of continental Europe with clear blue skies and the Atlantic stretching out in front of you is genuinely breathtaking. Best scenic view of the whole Lisbon region, in my opinion. One important note though: the terrain around the cliffs is rocky and can be slippery even on a clear day, so wear shoes with good grip. This is not the spot for sandals or sneakers with no traction. Come prepared and you'll be rewarded with some of the most stunning photos of your life.
Cascais was a pleasant stop to close out the day. It's a cute, walkable seaside town and worth seeing, though an hour or two is plenty since it can feel a bit touristy and pricey. Good for a stroll and a coffee, but don't stress if you don't linger.
Tips for anyone booking this:
- Wear comfortable shoes since there's a solid amount of walking and a light uphill hike at the palace
- Bring cash for souvenirs, lunch, and snacks along the way
- Get the tickets included option, 100% worth it
- Pack a light layer since even on a sunny day the cliffs can be windy
Absolutely would recommend this to anyone visiting Lisbon. Great value, incredible stops, and a guide who genuinely made the day memorable. Book it.

Can’t recommend this trip highly enough, the tour guide was highly experienced and clearly loved his job. Gave it such a personal touch. There was plenty of time to see all the sights, and with setting off slightly earlier than some other larger tours we avoided the large crowds.

Mari our tour guide/ driver was excellent navigating some of those roads and giving us so much history as we travelled! She kept us on time, the few little stops we made along the way were charming. The Pena Palace tour outside and inside were great! Beautiful and so historic.

Beautiful route especially Cascais and Portugal French Riviera , small towns in Sintra, Pena Palace, Boca do Inferno. Our guide Marília was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Marília had issues with the vehicle which kept stalling (that was unfortunate) but the group knew this was not her fault, she’ll take this issue up with her manager upon our return. My guests and I had a wonderful time. Will recommend Marília and this tour to interested parties. Thank you Marília!

This was a great tour all around. We enjoyed the small group size and felt everyone got a chance to chat with Mar throughout the day. She was a great guide and we really appreciated her sharing her favorite food, restaurants, and spots to listen to Fado music.

It is very beautiful. Extremely steep with lots of walking. Be prepared. The tour can only bring you so close.

I cannot say enough positive things about this tour company and the incredible care they showed during a very difficult situation. When a medical emergency occurred on the bus travelling to Sintra with a member of our family, their team responded immediately with compassion, professionalism, and genuine concern.
They went far beyond what anyone would expect—helping coordinate assistance, bringing a phone bank to the hospital so everyone could stay connected, and even translating medical information so the family fully understood what was happening. That level of thoughtfulness made an overwhelming situation much more manageable.
What truly stood out was their continued support after the incident. They didn’t just help in the moment and move on—they followed up with the family to check in and make sure everything was okay. That kind of care speaks volumes about their values and dedication. A special thank you to Mar, Nuno and Manuel.
This is a company that truly puts people first. I would highly recommend them not only for their tours but for the integrity, empathy, and responsibility they demonstrate when it matters most.

Great itinerary! Loved seeing Sintra first. We arrived there at 9:00. By 9:25, it was already very crowded. When we left at 10:00, the parking was crazy busy.
Loved seeing the coast. We were very lucky with the weather.
Cascais is lovely. Highly recommend Mariscaria for lunch. The baked cod is delicious.
Jodi_B, Mar 2026
Fabulous tour, highly recommend! Our guide Piri (probably misspelled, sorry) was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were worried it was going to be a bit long but it was a fabulous day and very relaxing.
Bob_R, Mar 2026
We had a terrific day with a wonderful guide, Mar. She was terrific! Mar knew the history of all of the areas we visited. She was also insightful of the various trees and foliage. Would highly recommend MAR, and this tour.

Tanya was efficient, caring, knowledgeable & fun.
Bilge_E, Mar 2026
It is a wonderful daily tour that covers all the must see places around Lisbon that would be very difficult to do on one’s own. Our tour guide was very well knowledged, liked explaining, cared for the comfort and convenience of the guests. The number of guests was not too much, it was very comfortable to travel in the van provided. It was a high quality private tour.
Elizabeth_L, Mar 2026
This was an amazing day! Our guide, Kat, was very knowledgeable of the areas and went above and beyond. We arrived at places to eat pastries and lunch just in time before the crowds arrived. She paid attention to our upcoming plans and before we departed at the end of the tour she took the time to provide us with a card that included information on places to eat and visit at our upcoming plans. This was very special!
