Itinerary
Your morning begins with a convenient pickup directly from central Lisbon. In lieu of finding your own way on the train, enjoy a comfortable and scenic drive through the countryside, with just your local guide and a small group to accompany you.
On arrival at Sintra—one of Portugal’s foremost (and most-visited) UNESCO World Heritage sites—glide past the lines and head right in, thanks to your pre-booked tickets. Head straight to Pena Palace, known for its ultra-colorful design, where your English-speaking guide will share a wealth of stories about its history.
After enough free time to purchase your lunch (with optional baked goods from a traditional bakery) in Sintra’s city center, enjoy a bonus excursion when you head to the wild Atlantic coast. See pounding waves at Cabo da Roca—Continental Europe’s westernmost point—before heading to Cascais: one of the area’s top beach resorts.
Have more than one hour to see Cascais' Old Town, admire its marina, and treat yourself to gelato before returning to your original departure point in Lisbon.

I booked this as a solo traveler and honestly could not have asked for a better day trip. If you're debating whether to do Sintra and Cascais on your own vs. a tour, just book the tour, especially this one.
Our guide (I believe her name was Puri) was absolutely fantastic. Super knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great sense of humor. What really set her apart was how she brought the history to life, not just dry facts, but quirky stories about the king who built Pena Palace, fun details about the exotic plants in the surrounding gardens, and little architectural secrets you'd completely miss on your own. She made the whole day feel like a conversation, not a lecture.
We were a group of 6-7 people, well under the 8-person max, which made a huge difference. It felt personal, not like being herded around with a crowd. Puri was also flexible with the pace, which I appreciated. If you're going purely for the history and context, the timing is perfect. If you're more of a photographer who wants to linger at every angle, it can feel a little tight. But because the group was small, she was genuinely accommodating when people wanted a few extra minutes. I managed to get the best of both worlds.
We had tickets included for Pena Park and the Palace, which I highly recommend springing for. The architecture is unlike anything I've ever seen and you could spend hours just looking at the details on the facade alone. Every corner has something going on. The surrounding park and gardens are equally impressive, and Puri's commentary on the plants and the history behind the estate elevated it from "wow, pretty" to actually understanding what you're looking at.
Cabo da Roca was my personal highlight of the entire trip. Standing at the westernmost point of continental Europe with clear blue skies and the Atlantic stretching out in front of you is genuinely breathtaking. Best scenic view of the whole Lisbon region, in my opinion. One important note though: the terrain around the cliffs is rocky and can be slippery even on a clear day, so wear shoes with good grip. This is not the spot for sandals or sneakers with no traction. Come prepared and you'll be rewarded with some of the most stunning photos of your life.
Cascais was a pleasant stop to close out the day. It's a cute, walkable seaside town and worth seeing, though an hour or two is plenty since it can feel a bit touristy and pricey. Good for a stroll and a coffee, but don't stress if you don't linger.
Tips for anyone booking this:
- Wear comfortable shoes since there's a solid amount of walking and a light uphill hike at the palace
- Bring cash for souvenirs, lunch, and snacks along the way
- Get the tickets included option, 100% worth it
- Pack a light layer since even on a sunny day the cliffs can be windy
Absolutely would recommend this to anyone visiting Lisbon. Great value, incredible stops, and a guide who genuinely made the day memorable. Book it.

This was such an amazing tour! Highly recommend it and it was worth to go in with a small group. Since Sintra and the Palace was a tourist site, having a guide like Puri (might be spelling this wrong) made the tour so easy and really good for us. She is so knowledgeable, nice, and so fun to be with. There’s so many things I want to say on this tour but its really just better for everyone to book it and experience it. The meeting point and itinerary were very clear and easy to follow, and also it really helped a lot that our guide gave us so many recommendations on what store and restaurants to try on!

Thank you Puri

Everything was OUTSTANDING! Our guide Ricardo arrived on time at the Meetup. There were six in our group we got into the vehicle and the air-conditioning was pumping on a hot summer day, there were vents for each row within the van. He was great at social cues when people wanted to chat among themselves and he entertained us the entire drive with facts about where we were heading and answered questions for us all along the way we arrived at each location on time and he had recommendations for restaurants and coffee spots. He was extremely educated and informed about every historical site and had deep knowledge on every topic we brought up and every question we asked. In addition when we reached our last destination, a very busy castle., Ricardo hugged, and shook hands with about a dozen people who all knew him by name greeted him with a smile and allowed us to coast right by the line. It was like traveling with the mayor of Lisbon. He entertained us all day without overstepping and attended to us with great care.

Beautiful sight seeing and history, really enjoyed Sintra and the palace. Small group tour was the best option! Could do without the extended stop in Cascais, not our favorite part of the trip. Tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable!

Very enjoyable day with a small group. Our guide she was amazing and very much appreciate she grew up in Portugal and could relate to the areas made it personable and over the top. Appreciated the group being friendly and willing to rotate around in the van so everyone got a chance up front and at windows etc. Try all the pastry suggestions and you won't regret it :)

Excellent tour guide Catarina who got on very well with my two young children aged 8 and 5. They wanted to hold her hand. She explained everything clearly and was very approachable

A fantastic and very worthwhile trip. Tanya our tour guide made everyone feel welcome and part of the group as soon as we stepped on the bus, and as a solo traveller I didn’t realise how comforting this was until I was on this trip. We saw so many sights and spent the perfect amount of time at each place. I enjoyed the mix of free time to explore as well guided information and suggestions on each location. The trip to the palace was super informative and a great end to the trip.
Thank you so much for such a memorable experience!

The places are nice to visit but tour lacked information about what makes them special. Expected more

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad the places were nice, and sorry the tour didn’t give you enough information about them. We’ll use this to improve how our guides share the history and stories behind each location. Thanks again for your honest review.

I cannot recommend this tour enough.
Ricardo was an AMAZING guide that showed us all the best of Sintra, Cabo Da Roca, Cascais and Pena palace.
He was funny, charming and knowledgeable and made it his personal mission to ensure that everyone was enjoying themselves. His restaurant recommendations in Cascais and Sintra were top notch and he had the tour down to a science and we were able to leave our peaceful time in each location right before the crowds poured in.
This is also a must do if you want to see the interior of Pena Palace. The line to get in is LONG and Ricardo waited in line for us while we explored the grounds reducing our wait time to zero.
If you are debating the price, it was worth every penny and then some.

The guide was wonderful. I was late at the start of the tour because my bus was late due to traffic. The guide was very sweet and accommodating. We started at sintra and worked our way towards the pena place. It was beautiful. Have fun in Lisbon!

Tania was a knowledgeable, passionate and kind tour guide who stopped at nothing to ensure that our group had a wonderful tour! The sights themselves were incredible, made even more captivating alongside the stories of Lisboa's rich history. The vehicle itself was very comfortable, complete with air conditioning that even extended to the back seats. The tour included plenty of free time for us to explore - our extended free time in Cascais gave us plenty of time to see the beautiful beaches in the area. Overall, Tania went above and beyond to ensure that we were all comfortable throughout the day, all of our questions were answered and excellent recommendations were provided.
Kenneth_K, Jul 2026
Miguel was great! So knowledgeable and passionate. He knows how to make this itinerary efficient and making sure you are using your time to see things vs waiting in lines. Highly recommend this tour.
