Itinerary
Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First, stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of the colorful Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena).
Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th-century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairy tale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside on a guided tour. Observe the extravagant bedrooms that used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.
Pena Palace is included only if option with tickets is selected.
Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval royal palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Check out the local fare with tastes of aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.
Meet back at your coach and travel past Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate on the way to Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca). Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs which are Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a walk.
In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check out classic white, terracotta-roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.
Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

My daughter and I had a great time on our day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Our guide Maria was the best. She has so much knowledge of the history of the region, local traditions and culture. I can’t imagine the trip without her. She even played Fado And explained it to the group. She was always on time for pick ups. She was cheerful and funny too.
Sintra is a beautiful palace and Cascais is a lovely beach town. With Maria’s explanation, the visits to these locales were more meaningful.
This trip was a don’t miss in my books

My wife and I "attended" the outstanding tour led by Ana named:
Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from Lisbon.
What a highly intelligent, super informative, wonderful tour it was. Yes, the sites are outstanding but Ana's knowledge, articulation of important historical perspectives and welcoming personality added significant value to our experience. Finally make sure to ask for Ana as your trip lead when booking this excellent excursion.
Traveled with Ana who did a great job and sings Fado The historic sites and views are a must see if you are visiting Portugal
Perfect day trip for Sintra. Includes all the essentials and very comfortable voyage with small vehicles.
Being elderly the holly steepness made this tour very difficult. There needs to be affordable buses or golf carts to transport people with mobility issues up the steep climbs.
Very knowledgeable about the tour facts and all things Portugal… highly recommend Anna.
Looking forward to more tours with her.
We had a wonderful day touring Sintra and Cascais! Miguel was very informative, welcoming, and made the entire day so much fun. The small group size was perfect and gave us plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Even though we were running a little behind schedule, Miguel handled everything smoothly and kept the tour enjoyable and stress-free. Highly recommend this tour!
Miguel is a wealth of knowledge… he is exuberant and full of energy and once we got to know him and his personality, we enjoyed our time.
We took two day trips from Lisbon, one is small group tour to Sindra, another one is small group tour to Fatima. Both are wonderful. The tour guides Orlando and Nonu made a big difference, they are very friendly and knowledgeable. We are very happy to decide taking these two trips.
A great day full of interesting facts, great scenery and wonderful sights. We enjoyed the day so much and would highly recommend
Very knowledgeable, knows a lot of facts and history. It was a fun having this guide on our excursion. Definitely recommend to everybody.
Well-organized, with a friendly guide who knows his stuff and drove us around very safely in a neat and comfortable minivan.
We had a fantastic experience on the Sintra and Cascais day trip! We were a larger group of 11, so we were split between two vans with guides Orlando and Fabio. They did an excellent job coordinating between the two vans and making sure our stops and timing stayed aligned so that we could still experience everything together as a group.
Both Orlando and Fabio were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. They shared great information throughout the day and gave us fantastic recommendations for how to spend our free time at each stop, including suggestions for where to eat and what to see.
They made the entire day feel seamless and relaxed, especially considering the size of our group. We had a wonderful time exploring Sintra and Cascais and would absolutely recommend this tour!
Great day with a great guide. John was fantastic! During our Van trips between sites John was a wealth of information answering all of our questions regarding Portuguese history and current events which helped put all of our experiences in Portugal into a proper perspective. What a great day!
Our tour guide was Paolo and we took a small group tour. Get ready to walk around in this tour. We learned so much about expensive real estates and rich history. This tour is a must to go see the castles. The castles are gorgeous. Cascais is very nice place to shop and to eat. But don’t forget to pack yourself a towel if you do visit the beautiful beaches.
From the moment he took charge of our group, Franklin was a star. He started by introducing himself and finding us where we all were visiting from. His knowledge of all the places we visited was extensive and he made it interesting. We truly gained a deeper appreciation of Portugal. Franklin is a gem.
Great locations, but not so great tour "guide" Paolo. Avoid at all costs, otherwise it's just a waste of your time.
Excellent day trip, Andy was our guide was great. He was knowledgable and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great day.
Orlando was an outstanding guide, and really went above and beyond for our group. I enjoyed the trip very much and was grateful to have the day taken care of for me!
Tour well done by tour guide Alberto! Flow of the day ran smoothly and Alberto provided excellent historical information. This trip covers a lot in one day. Be prepared for a good bit of walking, yet there is opportunity to rest and get refreshments. The town of Sintra is enchanting and forests quite lush. Be sure to try the Travesseiros treats! They can only be found in Sintra. Cascais is a lovely beach town with gorgeous coastline!
It was amazing. Great locations and our guide was wonderful. The group size of 8 was perfect. Highly recommend.
Definitely recommend the upgrade to include Regaleria!! Super cool to explore and was one of my boys (18 & 14 yrs old) favorite part of the tour. Great tour but be prepared for walking uphill.
Small group of eight and Fabio timed everything well so we didn’t feel rushed. He was patient with one of the groups physical limitations and saw to it that we were all taken care of. He gave us wonderful shopping and dining recommendations too!
Fantastic day trip from Lisbon. Everything was well thought through from the pick up location, timing of the tour/ visiting the palaces and time provided for long lunch/ ability to see Cascais. This truly does enable you to see both, skip the lines and have a hassle free day
Big thank you to Orlando for making the day an excellent experience!
Gonzalo was an enthusiastic and friendly guide. Very informative with a great sense of humor. We followed his recommendations for lunch ( and ice cream!) which were spot on. The travel could have been boring but he made it fun and interesting for him!!
Excellent tour to Sintra and Cascais - our tour guide was superb (he was French but has lived here for many years), sharing fascinating information during the tour. The pace was great - lots of time to see the sights and have lunch. Highly recommend this tour
They have already told you - there is a lot of uphill. Also, walk down an extra street in Sintra, there are a lot of good stores and bakeries. The first one tends to get a very long line.
Our guide Antonio was fantastic!
We had a fantastic experience on this tour! It was definitely a full day - we were wiped by the end of it - but it was well worth it. There was plenty of time to check out each site; we never felt rushed. Our guide Alberto was wonderful as well, very knowledgeable on the history and super nice. Highly recommend!
Fantastic tour. We added Pena to the base trip. Great way to see Sintra and Cascais in one day without hassle, and appropriate amount of time in each. Orlando was very knowledgeable.
Antonio was a very knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humor. We highly recommend this very informative and interesting tour with Antonio.
Excellent tour with a knowledgeable and engaging guide. We learned a lot and enjoyed all of the recommendations for places to eat during the tour. You’ll be walking quite a bit so bring comfortable shoes. Highly recommend!
