This was an awesome day trip from Lisbon that included incredible views, castles, history, art, architecture, culture, shopping, and amazing views of the coast! Our guide also showed us where Ronaldo’s new home is along the coast. The drive back from Sintra was a highlight of our trip seeing the cape and the coastline!

This was a sensational tour and I would highly recommend it. Our tour guide (Tomas P.) was absolutely amazing. His vast knowledge of the area, history and entertaining stories kept us fully engaged all tour. The guided tour of the Palace, free time in Sinta, drive to Cascais filled in the whole day. Great experience!

Itinerary

Meet your guide in central Lisbon for a memorable small-group guided day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Hop aboard your air-conditioned minivan and travel to Sintra. First, stop at Pena Park and see the diversity of plants and trees line the beautiful trails. Then, voyage to a spectacular vantage point of the colorful Pena National Palace (Palacio da Pena).

Continue to Pena National Palace, the most famous of Sintra’s monuments, located at the top of Sintra Mountain. Enjoy this 19th-century Romanticist castle that looks and feels like a fairy tale. Admire its eclectic Neo-Manueline, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles as you head inside on a guided tour. Observe the extravagant bedrooms that used to serve as a summer residence for the royal family.
Pena Palace is included only if option with tickets is selected.

Depart the palace and stroll with your guide to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra. Spend some free time to have lunch or discover the town’s forested palaces like Sintra National Palace, a medieval royal palace occupied from the 15th to 19th centuries (own expense). Check out the local fare with tastes of aqueijada or travesseiro, two scrumptious and traditional pastries.

Meet back at your coach and travel past Quinta da Regaleira and the Palace of Monserrate on the way to Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca). Then, whip out your camera for great photos at the rocky bluffs which are Europe’s westernmost point. Briefly, visit Guincho Beach where surfers shred the gnar and then cruise by Hell’s Mouth (Boca do Inferno). Finally, make your way to Cascais’ bay for a walk.

In the former fishing town of Cascais, peruse the narrow streets of this trendy vacation getaway with your guide. Check out classic white, terracotta-roofed houses as you make your way to the beach. Then, bask in the sun as you tuck your toes into the golden sands and gaze over the expansive Atlantic Ocean.

Along the journey back to central Lisbon, where your tour concludes, enjoy pristine views of the scenic town of Estoril.

My daughter and I had a great time on our day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Our guide Maria was the best. She has so much knowledge of the history of the region, local traditions and culture. I can’t imagine the trip without her. She even played Fado And explained it to the group. She was always on time for pick ups. She was cheerful and funny too. Sintra is a beautiful palace and Cascais is a lovely beach town. With Maria’s explanation, the visits to these locales were more meaningful. This trip was a don’t miss in my books

Delightful Day Trip!

Alexis_R, May 2026
Wonderful day with Alberto seeing Sintra and Cascais. Learned so much and really appreciated how he made sure we were all comfortable and relaxed. The trip exceeded our expectations and has made our vacation more valuable now that we have a better sense of the area and of Portugal’s culture and history.

Visit to Sentra and Casis

Maureen_K, May 2026
This day was a blast filled with fun, humor and great history of Portugal. Serge our leader was so much fun!! His recommendations were used by us not only in Casis but later we visited a restaurant that he recommended for bacalau.

Thomas The Best

Thomas was the most incredible and knowledgeable person we ever encountered. His knowledge of Kings Queens and of all the history was remarkable. You are extremely lucky to have him working for your company.

Pena Palace,Boca da Roca& Cascais Trip

BRENDAJILL_H, May 2026
Our Guide Benny was fantastic. Very knowledgeable especially of the history of the area, very friendly, enthusiastic & very chatty. Pena Palace is fascinating & the surrounding area is beautiful. Cascais is a huge town along the coast & worth a visit. Cabo da Roca was interesting from the point of view that it is the most westerly point of Europe

Sintra and Cascais were a wonderful landmark in Portugal. It was a worthwhile experience.

William_P, May 2026

The pick up was on time, they'd call you by your name, one guide at a time. The guide was very nice and professional, took good care of us the whole time. Plenty to see. The up hill climb wasn't as bad as it seemed.

Great experience.

Tomas was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He kept track of the group without seeming invasive I do wish he would not have engaged in political commentary at the end of the trip

Great tour!

Jessica_B, May 2026
We did this and had a great time. Our guide was very friendly and informative and the Mercedes transport vans were roomy and comfortable. Would not have known about these areas otherwise. Beautiful scenery outside the city of Lisbon. Put this on your itinerary. Loved the small group too. Just my son and I and one other couple.

Great tour, with the time managed well between the visits to Pena Palace, Sintra and Cascais. Appreciated being at Pena Palace before the crowds arrived.

Debra_B, Apr 2026
Benny our tour guide was just awesome in showing us around, you could see how much he loved his job and explaining the history of the cities we got to see well worth the money and time we spent with him on this tour, so happy we did it.

Sintra day trip

Stephanie_T, Apr 2026
Great day trip to see City of Sintra and surrounding areas. Highly recommend. Our guide Ana was wonderful. She did it all - drove the narrow, winding roads, spoke in English and Portuguese (very informative with lots of history) recommended great restaurants and even sang a beautiful Fado song (pretty voice). Pena Palace was beautiful with great views (even with the fog), the cliffs of Cabo da Roca were amazing and lunch in Cascais was delicious. Ana gave us 2 food recommendations that were perfect. Santini for ice cream and Restaurant Marítimo for delicious Portuguese food and atmosphere. I give Ana 10 stars!! Don’t miss this day trip. Hint: go early

Pauline_C, Apr 2026
This tour was excellent! Our tour guide, Alberto, was wonderful and knowledgeable. The destinations were perfect and must sees.

Sintra and Cascais

Robert_C, Apr 2026
The castle tour was great. The trip to Cascais after the tour was a wonderful treat. Alberto was knowledgeable and very accommodating as members of our party had issues with some of the stairs and uphill walking. All in all if you’re only going to do one castle tour, I highly recommend this one.

Wonderful day tour to Sintra and beyond!

Craig_H, Apr 2026
This whole day tour was amazing, from the very well organized approach to collecting our tour group at the Hard Rock restaurant meeting point, to our drop off at the end of the tour. Our guide, Ricardo T., was personable and friendly at our initial meeting and this continued for our entire tour. Ricardo was absolutely knowledgeable about the sites we visited on this tour, in addition to being able to answer all of the questions that we and our fellow passengers posed to him. He was also an excellent driver on many narrow, beautiful winding roads and streets! Ricardo also very efficiently managed the time we had to spend at each point of interest. The tour itinerary itself was wonderful, taking us to many distinctive stops in this beautiful part of Portugal. Thank you again Ricardo, for a great day, and kudos to the Inside Lisbon office team, which was always very friendly and responsive throughout our booking process. We highly recommend this tour, Inside Lisbon, and our great guide/driver, Ricardo T!!
