Martine was an excellent guide and made 3 hours go by super quickly! He was knowledgeable and fun and everyone in our group enjoyed the tour! We visited all of the most important places and he also gave us recommendations for restaurants . The pastry, cod potato croquet and the green wine was a great touch. Highly recommend!

José was a great tour guide! We learned a lot about the history of Portugal and Lisbon specifically. Didn’t feel like as much walking because of frequent breaks. The tour included a green white wine tasting, cod fritter, and pasteis de nata- all were great! Definitely recommend this tour to visitors

Itinerary

Meet your small group and expert local guide in central Lisbon for a guided walking tour. After a brief introduction, learn how this 19th-century historical square was built with typical Portuguese stones to resemble the waves of the nearby ocean. From here, follow your guide to Restauradores Square and see an obelisk rise towards the sky, exemplifying Portugal’s ascent to independence from Spain in 1640.

Nearby, visit the Rossio Central Station, and listen as a train heads into the tunnel towards Sintra. Hear how this 19th-century engineering marvel was built and stands as one of Portugal’s most impressive accomplishments. Next, head to historic Carmo Square, home of the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Here, learn how Portugal’s previous dictatorial regime collapsed after a 48-year rule. Stroll onward to reach the charming Chiado neighborhood full of boutiques, theaters, bookstores, and vintage cafés.

Keep walking to and admire the heart of the city: Baixa, Lisbon's Downtown, which was completely rebuilt after an 18th-century earthquake, obeying new rules of urbanism and anti-systemic architecture, based on innovative solutions for its time.

Continue to Alfama, an old quarter known for its Moorish heritage and fado music. Learn about Portugal’s melancholic music as you walk by fado restaurants tucked in between alleys and down winding streets.

Snap some beautiful photos and then walk to your last stop, the majestic Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio). Hear how the reception hall was used to welcome travelers arriving from the Atlantic, before your tour concludes and you continue exploring on your own.

Great morning in Lisbon

Jerry_R, Apr 2026
There is a lot of walking but all worthwhile - the walk is at a very reasonable pace and tries to avoid the more extreme climbs. The tour is highly recommended. Our guide, Martin, was excellent - both knowledgeable and enthusiastic - a superb effort - many thanks Martin

Excellent Tour

Cecilia_R, Apr 2026
Joao was our guide he gave us excellent history of the Lisbon neighborhoods and the castle. Took us to see nice viewpoints. We had a snack and glass of wine along the way. We did the tour first day of our trip and it was a good way to introduce us to the city.

Nice day in Lisbon

It was a wonderful tour. He have a detailed historical of Lisbon as we walk though various parts of the city. Trying various food and drinks along the way was an added bonus.

Excellent orientation to the city

Preethi_S, Apr 2026
This was my second time in Lisbon, and my partner’s first time. Guilerrme gave us the perfect orientation and history of the main sights and spots to visit in Lisbon. The best was learning the secret of how locals quickly move around all the hills - use the elevator as well as metro stations as a means of quickly bypassing all the outdoor hills and stairs! The little treats we enjoyed along the way were great as well (pastel de nada, vinho verde, and codfish were included; on our own we tried little shots of Ginjinha in the Alfama).

Wonderful tour! Great information and fun guide! Highly recommend!

This walking tour of Lisbon was excellent! It was one of the most enriching travel experiences we had—an ideal blend of history and culture. Our guide Felipe was not only deeply knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about Lisbon, weaving together historical facts and localize neighbourhood insights. There were thoughtful pauses for photos, and our excellent tour guide thoughtfully answered our questions, and even provided local recommendations for food and activities. I would highly recommend this tour for those looking for a casual yet meaningful and memorable experience.

An Unforgettable Experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We recently took a walking tour in Lisbon with Inside Lisbon , and it was nothing short of amazing! Our guide GUILHERME SILVA was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the city's rich history and culture. Every stop on the tour was filled with fascinating stories and insights that brought Lisbon to life. The pacing was perfect, allowing us to soak in the stunning architecture and vibrant neighborhoods without feeling rushed. I especially loved exploring Alfama, with its narrow streets and charming alleys. The local tips on hidden gems and eateries were a fantastic bonus! Overall, this walking tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Lisbon. It offered a perfect blend of history, culture, and local flavor. Highly recommended!
