Itinerary

Modern Lisbon Tour:

Stare up at Lisbon’s bright blue sky as you travel the Modern Lisbon route to the Oceanarium, the largest indoor aquarium in Europe (admission not included). See the architecture of Casa dos Bicos and observe its curious façade. Then, head to the Museum of Amalia Rodrigues and learn about the queen of Fado. Next, visit the tile exhibit at the Azulejo Museum (Museu Nacional do Azulejo) and study the techniques used to create and manufacture decorative tiling.

Monumental Belem Tour:

Experience the historical monuments of Lisbon aboard a minibus. Admire the Belém Tower (Torre de Belém), a fortified tower built in the 16th century, which was erected at the mouth of the Tagus River to protect the city. Stop at the Navy Museum (Museu de Marinha) and learn about all aspects of Portugal’s navigation history. Continue to the Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) which honors Portugal’s Age of Discovery.

Belem Lisbon Tour:

Waste of time and money

This experience was beyond disappointing. The busses were infrequent- ridiculous wait times at each stop. Confusing routes - 6 other passengers at the stop and my family could not make sense of the map. Drivers who ignored questions when asked. What a waste of money.... more importantly we wasted our limited time we had in Lisbon. come on Viator do better !

It's Okay

There are 2 companies that run Hop On Hop Off tours, we chose the Yellow Bus. Turns out, maybe, we should have chosen the other. First off, one of the stops (#3 Marques de Pombal) so longer exists but it is still marked on the map. We walked around for a bit looking for it and found the other company, who told us where the next closest stop was. When we made it to the other stop, others waiting told us there are less busses on the Yellow bus than the other company. That being said, we didn't have to wait too long (maybe 15 minutes). Timing seemed to improve later in the day so maybe they add more busses as the day goes on. The stops seem to be in good locations for the areas we wanted to stop at. Busses seemed full but usually enough got off at the stops that we always were able to get on when we wanted to. We decided to walk between stops for a couple of the locations. This, turns out, was not a good idea. The map showing the stops is not easy to navigate, especially since there are no street names. Fortunately, we were able to ask vendors on where the stops were. Beyond the control of the tour company, there was a protest which caused the closure of some of the streets. We were grateful that someone from the tour company came to the stop we were at and led us to the next stop for us to get on. Overall, Yellow Bus is OK and served it's purpose of getting around Lisbon.

The Lisbon Yellow Bus SUCKS!

The Lisbon Yellow Bus is horrible. The headsets didn’t work on the tram and the Modern Lisbon route is boring. When the guide wasn’t speaking there was a horrible woman screeching that was supposed to pass as music. The bus doesn’t come to the cruise terminal to pick up passengers, just sell tickets. However they do leave a yellow bus banner so you sit there and wait for the bus for 20 minutes until you walk to the square to pick up the bus yourself. The don’t even leave a map at their kiosk in the port. Definitely buy the red bus tickets.

Rough ride disappointing narrative

Narrative was very limited and not up to date. The seats are very uncomfortable. The drivers are very jerky in the movement of the bus and care little about passengers trying to get on and off. Wish the route would include more neighborhoods. Could be so much better.

Certainly Not What We Expected

1. Waited in th 90 degree sun (after a long walk to the bus stop) at the door of the bus waiting to show our ticket to get in. The driver was helping someone so we waited. A couple (age around 75; us 65) cut in front of us and said something in French to us. They went ahead of us showing their tickets and were given the nod to go in. Now, why didn’t the driver acknowledge my husband and me standing in the hot , tickets in hand, and right at the front door steps to the bus? 2. No air conditioning on the bus. I only wish I had a picture of my sweaty face and hair. I used the map for a fan and held it up to block the sun at my window. It was miserable m. Why didn’t I get off? After all it was a “Hop on-Hop off bus ride. 3. That was because it was difficult to heat the audio recording do we were never quite sure where we were or if it was a place we would want to get off. It was maybe an hour and one half round trip. Not many places were pointed out and not much history was given. 4. I did see online that it had 3 out of 5 stars. I had been on other Hop on/off buses in other places and thought surely it had to be better than that-nope! It was worse. Save your money. There are other ways to see Lisbon. And yes, we did a couple of those as well. They are much better, just more expensive.

G&D Lisbon - try the tarts

Very good value to see the city in the time we had (48 hrs). The purple or red route was a good way to see the new part of the city but not much worth getting off for. The Hills Tram was great but it is a get on one pass with no opportunity to get off. It's understandable because the area that it covers is very old and the streets are so narrow so stoping is difficult. It does show you the spots you would want to go to if you want to walk up or get another transport to come see. If we had time we would have made the trip up. The blue line to Belhem was great. The Monastery de Jeronimos was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. We ran out of time so didn't get to go inside (next time for sure). Stop for the tarts just west of the monastery, they are worth it, stand in line, ...my wife was right. Thank you Diane. The MAAT was disappointing but the Museum of Electicity that is part of it is worth the admission to the MAAT. The three route pass also allows you to use the Lift ( elevator), 3 funiculars to access the upper hills and the 15E, 20E and 28E trams. With all of this you can basically get anywhere in the lower city.

We enjoyed the tram ride, but the hop on hop off bus experience was disappointing. Traffic for the bus route was so heavy that much of our time was spent waiting for traffic to clear rather than seeing sights. Additionally, the audio guide on the bus was skipping a lot such that we would miss much of the audio presentation. As mentioned, the tram ride was very enjoyable and the tram driver was especially informative and fun.

Great bargain!

Really good HOHO bus! The ear phones were surprisingly comfortable and you could actually hear the narration really well. You can choose your language easily. The bus was clean and comfortable and the representative was helpful as you board. We did both the pink line and the blue line and much preferred the blue line. Only negative was there wasn’t enough narration and too much music. It was a great way to see the city.

Was able to access all routes. Need to start early for purple line as that is far. Also there is quite a rush for tram car so start early as well.

Yellow Bus hop on hop off waste of time and money

Terrible experience, Yellow Bus drivers were unfriendly and the way the tour is set up that you have to press STOP for a bus stop is ridiculous because the driver does not interact by telling you the next stop is coming up please be prepared. Waste of time and money

The double decker bus tour gives a good overview of the country. A good experience if your stay is limited.

My friend and I remained on the double decker bus for the 2 routes. When it came to the tram ride, we were put on the public bus and didn't get to see any of the attractions listed on the brochure.

This tour was a waste of...

This tour was a waste of our time and money. It was very hot so sitting on top was not an option. Inside the bus was stifling with no air conditioning. Commentary was barely understandable. Landmarks were pointed out after we had passed them. Very disappointing

the Yellow Bus does not come often enough. For every 3 Red Buses (different company) you might see one yellow! The drivers were not friendly, and it was difficult to read the map to see where the on off stops where!

Don't bother to use Yellow Buses in Lisbon: it's too complicated and not worth it.

After booking a cruise, I tried to be really organised, so I booked, online on 10th June 2023, a 2-day Lisbon pass for my wife and myself for 20th & 21st July 2023, costing £62.78 (your booking ref. 10225449399). I downloaded your app with maps and although there was no indication of the bus stop, I could see where the Modern Line passed by the Cruise terminal, but that's exactly what it did, it passed right by us, despite our attempts to wave down the drivers of 2 of your buses, on both sides of the road. After asking drivers of other buses, taxis and tuc-tucs, they either had never heard of Viator or Yellow Buses or they offered to take us to the city centre themselves. So we ended up taking a tuc-tuc there, costing us 20€. We eventually found a 'Modern' bus and, after a 30 minute wait, it moved off. So we saw an endless stream of typical big-city streets followed by a 100-minute tour of industrial estates and tower-blocks of flats. There was nothing of interest and the driver hadn't bothered to offer us sets of earphones, so we didn't have a clue about any history or buildings of architectural interest. Upon returning to the city centre, we stayed on the bus, so it took us back to the cruise terminal, so we knew where it stopped, but although we intended to use it the next day, we didn't, because, by then we realised that we would have to sit through the whole 90 minute journey again, in order to get to the city centre, so we used P&O's free shuttle bus and decided not to bother to try to use your Belem line or tram at all. So, we paid over £62 for the frustration of not being able to stop your buses, plus 20€ for a tuc-tuc to get us to a 100 minute uncomfortable boring bus ride. On previous Hop-on & hop-off buses in large cities across the world, the driver has alway been courteous and announced that he is approaching a stop and always stops, whether or not anyone has requested a stop, so that passengers didn't have to stand before the bus stopped: not that we could press the stop button, because every one in our vicinity was broken. So, you'll understand why we were not very impressed by your service.

Excellent Sightseeing via bus, tram and finicular!

Both the Belem line via bus and the Hills via Tram were excellent overall. Just wished the headset plug worked on where we sat. My favorite was the included Finicular. Opted to ride it just one way up; the rooftop view of Lisbon was amazing.

Lisbon Layover

I was in Lisbon on a long layover and this was an EXCELLENT way to see all the sites. If I had been staying, I would've certainly taken advantage of the ability to hop off and walk around and hop back on. Highly recommend.
