No boating in Belem

We rode both bus lines and all was fine, except for the communication part when it came to us asking where to get off for the yellow boat ride. Two drivers told us where to get off for the boat ride, but failed to mention to us that the boat rides don’t operate on Sundays. So we stood waiting for over two hours before a security guard for the terminal ferry informed us you don’t operate the boat on sundays, which we did not see in the literature. Would be nice if announcement could be made onboard the bus.

The bus tour was fine with a nice commentary and not too busy . However the river cruise was badly misrepresented and the boat was nothing like the picture shown on the details page, in fact it couldn’t be described as a boat! Open sided , rusty seating area , no facilities ! Pity I can’t leave a picture ! Very disappointing !

Viator was less than...

Viator was less than helpful when attempting to switch my day for the ride. Initially I was told it was sold out for the day I wanted to switch to, then I was told that my only course of action was that viator could attempt to reach out to the tour operator to see if they would allow the switch. I was also told that if viator did this, there was guarantee I would get a response. Additionally I contacted the tour operator through the viator app to request a switch. This was around 11am… in the app it noted that I should receive a quick reply… I did not receive any reply until after 3pm… the bus stops running at 5:30.. so my family and I lost an entire day.. including the boat ride which we planned to take on the Monday I wanted to switch to since they only offer the ride on Mon, Wednesday and Friday..we had an all day excursion planned for Wednesday and leave from Lisbon on Friday. A side note.. when the tour operator responded back.. they let me know it wasn’t a problem to switch and apologized for the delay.. but the apology fails to make up for the day we lost.

Very confused on river cruise

River cruise was fantastic . The only problem was getting there. The Hop-on-hop-off left us very far from where we had to take the yellow river boat and we had to ask for directions all the way down and nobody seem to know anything. I think that the bus driver should have been more informative.

The ticket information did not make it clear where to pick up bus. Finally found a ticket booth and was directed to walk another five blocks to bus pick up point. Once on the bus the tour took us through the older part of the city. Returning to the starting point we picked up the bus that toured the modern part of the city. The contrast is amazing.

So much to see.Having a two day pass is a must. Take rain gear everyday. The day may start out clear then comes the rain. Unfortunately for me, the water was rather rough, so I didn't do the boat ride. If you start off in center city, make time to spend a few hours there.

3 Service tips

A suggestion… 1. Have the driver call out the stops. 2. Give people a chance to get off. 3. Have your staff queu the travelers ( some travelers are very pushy) Also most of your stops are not shaded. If possible you should look and see if it’s at all possible to move the stop a few meters so we are not waiting in the blistering sun for 20 minutes to board the bus and a good 15-20 minutes in the sun before we start our tour . This of course is the first stop.

We sat at each stop for 45 min at least watching 3 or 4 red buses go by but and not one yellow bus come. We ended up hiring a taxi yo get around . Horrible experience with the yellow bus. I urge people to use the red bus line.

Worse Hop On Hop Off is Yellow Bus in Lisbon

I have been traveling over 50 countries and used Hop On Hop Off tour bus all the time but by far this was my first experience with Yellow Bus and the worse experienced I had. They don’t have timetable, waiting too long to the next bus, canceled the boat tour without notice and I paid for it, and the worse part at the last 5 PM your after 45 minutes waiting, they didn’t honor to finished the whole route and dropped me off at Tower Lisbon and told me I have to take public bus which took about 45 minutes because they stop in every bus stops. The company should refund my boat tour which canceled and compliment for all the hassles they created. It was not our fault if they running late and should finished the last round tour. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS YELLOW BUS, DONT WASTING YOUR MONEY ON THEM

I would have given 5 stars had it not been that the tour operator is still using old system. That’s because most other operators in other cities are able to scan the Viator receipt and able to print vouchers at the starting point but in this case no, you have to waste time to go to another location to get voucher and then come back to starting point, please upgrade your system

Took the 2 day + boat option. Took the boat both days just to relax and enjoy the beauty of the city. The modern city route was especially interesting..went to places we never would have seen. The buses and boat were clean, easy and provided easy to understand explanations of what we were seeing. I would recommend it.

Bought the full package before arriving. The scanner code didn't work. The bus drivers refused us. We ended up walking from one end of the city to the other to the yellow bus booth waisting most of our travel day to sort out the problem only to wait two hours to take a boat trip which took us along the river we just walked. Tried to take the one trolly up to the castle but all were full. Total waist of time and money.

June 3rd - took the modern tour. The tour was okay but the audio was often out of sync with where we were at. The boat tour had no audio but was okay because you could google the sites, June 4th - took the Belem Historical tour. The audio worked better. The rain put a damper on the tour. It would have been nice to have a retractable roof.

First day there was a marathon and most buses were cancelled, which we did not know about, so we waited at two different stops on two routes for hours, basically wasted first day, therefore no value at all. Second day was great, and got full value.

We have taken several hop on hop off bus tours, but the map in Lisbon seemed to be very difficult to find the stops. The first bus we were on didn't even stop at the first stop so we actually were confused which stop we were at. All the different lines seemed to cover most of the city but I think there could have been more information in the commentary and each stop clearly announced. The first bus we got on, we actually had to wait for the second bus as the first was full. There were so many people we actually never got to sit up top as we usually do on any of the buses that day. Still a good way to get around the city.

I have been a client of viator for many years and of course I have always known that a product offered by Viator is a serious offer and I have never been disappointed by any tour I have bought except yours. On March the 30th I arrived to Lisbon and as soon as I got there I tried to get the bus service I had purchased. It was hard because at the place where I was only the red and another one were the two bus lines offering their service. I was misguided by someone and ended up at this place it was raining and when the bus came the driver said nobody else could get it, then two people form the bus came out and I told the driver that I could get in then. The driver refused to take any more people even though it is a place that has no protection from the rain, he was very inhumane , but that is not all, I showed him my electronic voucher and he said, No, get out , go to Plaza Figueres go out , he didn't even bother to scan the code to check, I took his pictures, He made me walk all the way to Plaza Figueres because he didn't want to scan my electronic voucher that said that was valid. I had to go all the way because of this irresponsible employee of yours, when I got to Plaza Figueres they agreed with me that it was not right what he had done and more...one driver scanned it and my ticket was there. This man made my first half of my staying in Lisbon a nightmare because of his attitude.
