Overview

Explore underwater in a beginner scuba diving experience at Koloa Landing in Kauai. Ideal for first-time divers, you’ll be with a small-group (maximum four people) where your certified guide provides a detailed scuba briefing, teaching the use of equipment and how to breathe underwater. Next is a practice dive in shallow water before heading out for your first dive, seeing coral and sea life with your instructor by your side.

Participants must not travel to more than 1000ft of elevation for 18 hours after this activity (including interisland and commercial flights, helicopter tours, skydiving, and trips to Waimea Canyon)
Please read and complete the forms in your confirmation email immediately, as there will be no refund given within 24 hours of your experience if you fail to complete these successfully, which may require a physician's approval.

This experience is so fun! Highly recommended! We get to see so many fish, and sea turtles! it’s so pretty down in the water, super impressive!! Coach Cody is incredibly nice. My friends and I were a bit nervous because it was our very first time going deep into the water. Everything went smoothly under Coach Cody’s guidance, he is always patient, kind, and supportive! He is always there when we have questions or needs help! We all love him! Guys this experience is awesome! You guys should come try it!! Huge W for Coach Cody!

Amazing experience!

This was an incredible experience! Cody was my instructor and was very knowledgeable! Being able to do 2 dives was awesome since we saw different wildlife on each dive. He knew the area well and I felt safe the whole time. Definitely got my moneys worth! Saw a massive school of bait fish and a large barracuda! Plus several turtles. Kōloa landing is a great spot with lots of wildlife, fish and corals to look at. 10/10 will go again!

Buyer Beware - something smells fishy

Well I wish I could tell you something great about this adventure, but I wouldn't know because we never made it. They send tlla medical release the day before. NOTE: well after the 24-hour refundable cancelation period has passed. If you are over 45, on meds, and a few other things you have to have a physician's release, which would be easy to get if they sent they form when booked - 3 weeks ago. BUT dont worry, they have a doctor you can call and pay another $200 that will release you over the phone! So here is my issue with that: you can't take my word that I'm a healthy 55 YO, but if I pay your doctor $200 send him my ID and give him my pulse he can tell you that I'm healthy enough for this excursion! How can that be when he has never even seen me? Furthermore, how is that even legal or actually safe? So, if you are over 45 and are looking forward to this adventure, like we were, reach out in advance so you can get an actual medical release and enjoy yourself, instead of being stressed out and pressured to use their doc-in-box, which we did not do, because as stated above it doesn't sound ethically sound. AND now we're out the full amount of the excursion and have a bad taste for this group!

Beginner scuba !

was a really great experience! I felt comfortable the entire time and I really don’t like being underwater😂 we got to swim with sea turtles and some really great fish highly recommend my kids are a 13 and 16 and did great! I’m almost 50 and I also did great😂😂

Awesome first experience for beginners

The instructor was very professional, extremely helpful, most patient, and safety of divers were the first priority at all times. My husband and I had no prior scuba diving experience. We practiced safety skills the first hour and the second hour we were exploring the underwater world. We saw some turtles, lots of different species of fish, and coral. I definitely recommend to others who are looking to a new experience.

A great introduction. I would trust this shop for additional adventures too. "Thomas Tommy Tom" was a great guide in somewhat challenging circumstances. My wife and I are experienced divers, and certified, but we hadn't been on a dive for 17 years. Being able to help guide our son and nephew (12 and 15 yo) as complete newbies and ourselves as experienced but "wow, it's been a while" divers simultaneously required a little finesse. Thomas Tommy Tom made it look easy. If we dive here off Kauai again we'll use this shop.

If John is your teacher, run

John should not be teaching beginners. He did not explain things well, was condescending, and encouraged me to quit. He said I needed ocean snorkeling experience as a prerequisite, when the name of the activity literally says no experience necessary. The one thing I asked for was patience and patience is just not his personality. The class did not include pool training first. I signed up for an identical course in Maui with the exact same online training (that got canceled for weather) and they go in the pool first. How are you supposed to do a big exhale after you’ve been exhaling for several seconds without inhaling first? Explain that. He couldn’t. I spent a large chunk of my life savings on this trip for this activity specifically, just for a shortened class and a humiliating experience.

What you've described is not the experience we want for any of our customers, especially for an activity you've been looking forward to and invested in for so long. We understand how frustrating and upsetting this must have been, and I sincerely apologize. We are taking your feedback very seriously. The issues you raised about the instructor's teaching style, particularly his lack of patience and condescending attitude, are being addressed immediately with him. Providing a supportive and encouraging environment for beginners is a top priority for us, and it's clear we failed to do that in your case. We do occasionally find after introducing people to diving that they would benefit from doing some snorkeling first. Stating that ocean snorkeling experience is a prerequisite for everyone taking a beginner's course is not accurate, and again we will be addressing that with the instructor. Though we don't go into a pool for the introduction, we do go to a protected area of the ocean. If the conditions aren't suitable for beginners, we shouldn't be taking them and will cancel the dives. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Your feedback is crucial in helping us improve and ensuring that no one else has a similar experience.

2 Tank Afternoon Shore Dive

Parking and check-in was easy with Jeff. Great dive shop too. Carlo’s was our guide, he is the man! So cool, like diving with a friend. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He showed us what we needed to know and off we went on our two tank dive. The spot was amazing with great visibility. He knew right where to go to see large schools of fish, turtles, and he had an eye to spot Octopus. We encountered at least 5. Seaport has great reviews for a reason. They are excellent.

So nice to be able to book this so easily. Andrew was a great teacher and both my 17 year old daughter and my Father in law felt so comfortable. In fact my daughter wants to do another dive on Tuesday.

If you’ve had cataract surgery or any surgery within the last 3 months, they will not let you dive. If you have high cholesterol, or heart problems, you will not be able to dive. Make sure you get all the waivers and forms that they require you to complete a week before you plan on diving or you will loose your money as we did because I did not get the forms and did not know of all the restrictions.

For sure there are medical restrictions to diving, which is why we make every effort to inform our guests as early as possible including mentioning the medical questionnaire restrictions in the listing. In your case, we started communicating through Viator 3 months before your arrival, and continued to ask for the necessary qualifying paperwork regularly, including via a personal phone call. Unfortunately we didn't learn of your medical history until you were on site, when we had already allocated staff & resources to providing your instruction and dives. If you're ever in the area again and are able to get a physician to approve, we'd love the opportunity to take you diving!

Fun island activity

My husband and I did the discover scuba excursion since we haven't gotten around to getting certified and we had fun. Thomas did a great job keeping us safe during the trip and made sure we got the pictures we wanted with the turtles (at a safe distance). The only thing that would have made this excursion better is if we went out to a site from a boat like the other ones we have done at other places, getting out to the dive site from shore was a bit difficult but Thomas did a great job helping us!

First-Time Diving Conquering Fears Underwater!!

This was an absolutely transformative experience that shattered my diving anxieties! The PADI-certified instructor was incredibly supportive, turning my massive nerves into pure excitement. His patience and genuine care made my first dive not just manageable, but magical! Discovering an underwater world of hidden octopuses, playful sea turtles, vibrant fish, and mesmerizing marine life was nothing short of extraordinary.

Great experience and guidance despite some issues

For a first time diver, all I can say is “wow.” It was a great experience, and Brie was a fantastic instructor. I had some issues first with breathing naturally through the regulator and then with equalizing on the descent, but she was patient the entire time. Koloa Landing dive site is not the best in terms of visibility and variety of sea life, but it was more than adequate for a first timer like myself. We did get to see lots of fish, eels, and sea turtles! I experienced what I believe to be barotrauma following the dive (popping ears, mild sinus pressure, and lots of mucus and nose stuff with a bit of blood), but as of now, these seem to be subsiding with a nasal spray, lots of hydration, and a solid sleep overnight. My physical response is my own and not reflective of the dive itself, but it’s something to be aware of if you’ve never dived before.
