      False Advertising - Be Warned

      Larry_T, Apr 2026
I WOULD LIKE A REFUND. Your advertised product stated a trip to Mt. Vernon and admission. Provided. It also advertised a one hour walking tour of Alexandria. That is why we booked this tour over others. However, this did not happen and when we questioned the driver, he knew nothing of this. This falls under litigious action of truth in advertising (Section 5 of FTC laws for non lawyers). Also, the driver had no record of our reservation and we had to scramble at the last minute in order to board our tour. A complete failure on Viator’s part.

      Response from Host, Apr 2026

I talked to the customer this morning regarding the booking, and I apologize and asked to give them a tour for tomorrow. We were adjusting the pickup spot and the booking they made was amended from the 10th to the 9th April. The bus was waiting for them at the Hyatt Regency but they were in a different location. I talked to them and looking to provide them but they already get their refund. We were in communication this morning. I understand there anger. Very an fortunate If you comeback next time I grunt you a complementary tour Yohannes

      No seat belts!

      CHARLENE_G, Apr 2025
The guide was great, Mt Vernon was great. The van did not have seat belts for every seat. I work at a trauma center and was very uncomfortable not having a seat belt on for a 30 minute drive. Will not take a tour with this company again.

      Response from Host, May 2025

Dear Mr. Charle: thanks that you like the guide and the tour. As of the Set belt its not mandatory except for a driver and the front set . If you asked the driver she would have been siting you at the front set. So its what we have in all vans . I am soory for your inconvenient.

Decent Tour/Ride If You Don't Want To Spend Excessive Time At Mt. Vernon

      Brian_S, Apr 2025
It was our first event of the family trip. Bobby was a great guide, very knowledgeable, and showed a great appreciation and love for history. He was a great storyteller and even got the riders involved by interlacing some historical trivia Q&A into the journey. The only negative of the event was not his fault but something I wish was required of all these tour companies, and that is that they inform us AHEAD OF TIME that a site is under repair. Much of the mansion was under renovation, so we only visited two of the many rooms (the rest being viewed in a glass-encased model). We were informed of this limit once we all were seated on the bus, so that seems a little...well, late and rather non-transparent of the tour company not to mention. Nonetheless, we learned a lot and can say we got to "see Mt. Vernon under renovation," if I were to put a silver lining on it. :) There wasn't much of a line, so any sort of skip-the-line benefit wasn't necessary. Maybe on a weekend it would be? (We were there on a Tuesday). But it was still nice to have the tour guide, Bobby, get us all our tickets. The grounds are sprawling, and there was still plenty to see. The slave quarters were well-presented, there was an actress portraying Mrs. Washington and telling stories in the first-person which we found unexpectedly entertaining, the revolutionary soldier actor spilled a lot of interesting info about encampment life, and there was helpful tram service between the tomb, the wharf, and the visitor center. Admittedly, there wasn't a lot of spare time to see it all, so there is the possibility that if you have the time to spend there, it is better just to take a taxi and head out there yourself so you can leave on your own schedule. While the drive through Alexandria was fine, I think less time on the journey and more time at Mt. Vernon would have satisfied us more. On the ride back we stopped off to get a distant view of a fort (Ft. Washington, I think?) and take a photo. Most people were wiser than we and remained on the bus as it didn't end up being much of a photo opportunity, but still, it was something to break up the return ride. (I also would add that the return ride was dedicated to listening to classic rock n'roll on the radio. Our guide was quite the fan, which he interlaced well with his tour offerings on the way up [the tour began with a drive through Alexandria, slowing down for a few historical buildings, which we appreciated]. He was so entertaining on the way up that we kind of missed him continuing his relating of historical facts and stories on the return ride, so listening to a radio station was a bit anticlimactic. Didn't ruin anything, just a preference note that we all discussed amongst the family later on.) In the end, Mt. Vernon should not be missed. Will be better when it's renovated by the end of the year or whenever and you can actually tour the mansion, but still not to be missed if you're going to be visiting. Again, the more I write this, I'm thinking that if you are already familiar with history and don't mind the taxi/rideshare fee (maybe there's a bus?), a straight-shot past Alexandria and right to Mt. Vernon is probably preferable. -- (Although you will miss viewing [from the bus] Washington's old home in Alexandria.)

      Missing piece

      Wilbur_B, Apr 2025
Our tour was supposed to include a 1 hour walking tour of old town Alexandra. We didn't get that, the driver said he drove by on the expressway and was all.

      Response from Host, Apr 2025

What a surprise: Mr. Benner called me and told me that he was not happy only driving through Old town Alexandria and but overall the tour was ok, he side. then I talked to the driver guide and told me that they took more time at Mount Vernon and he runs out of time and he did a drive through. when we have a large group that is what happened. However I give him back as a compensation $60 for his complain. I meat him in person with his wife and he was very happy and thankful. what can I say? I live it to his moral issue. Thanks Yohannes

      The drive through...

      Jill_S, Mar 2025
The drive through Alexandria was faster than I expected. I thought we would stop at some of the sights and get out. Take your pictures while you can because you don't go back through the town on the way back. The water bottle that was supposed to be included in the price was never given out.

      False Advertising

      Michael_N, Sep 2024
Visiting Mt Vernon was on my list to do for years. While we enjoyed the trip, it was not as advertised. There was no noted archeologist or any special guide at all. This was THE reason we chose this tour. Nor was there a walking tour of Old Alexandria. There was no bottled water as promised. All of the folks in this tour expected the same thing and felt this was false advertising by Viator. Friendly and accommodating driver who told us the company had never offered the described tour

      Response from Host, Sep 2024

I think the custemer confused the private tour and the public tour. If the customer requested a private tour Yes we organize that product upon request. However I can offer you next time if you call directly and book our private tour aveleblity

Mt Vernon was excellent, Alexandria was a short drive around

      Annette_S, Sep 2024
Visiting Mt Vernon was excellent. The grounds, historic buildings and the mansion are well laid out with lots of information. All the staff at the estate were friendly. It was definitely worth seeing. Our driver was good with a polite and easy manner and I felt safe in the vehicle. I've marked this down a bit because of the Alexandria section. We did a drive around the old town and it was lovely to see. We didn't have an opportunity to get out and walk around. The itinerary indicates one hour, we drove around for maybe 15 mins. It was sufficient, especially since there was a light rain. The area we saw was residential so nothing would have been gained by walking. I think the description of the tour should be updated to indicate it was a drive around the old town past historic houses.

      No walking tour

      Tara_S, Jun 2024
The itinerary stated that there was a 1 hour walking tour of Old town Alexandria. We drove through the town, but never stopped to get out. Also, it said that water was provided. No water was ever offered to us. The driver's phone was constantly ringing during the drive.

      Good Tour, not enough time

      Laurie_R, Apr 2024
We enjoyed the tour and the guide was very knowledgeable. We did not have enough time to see all of the Mt Vernon buildings I would have liked. The line to get into the main mansion was almost an hour.

      Never arrived

      Montserrat_D, Jan 2024
The driver never arrive. They cancel one our after the meeting time. They said it was close. I review it and it was open

      Awesome guide and trip

      John_A, Oct 2023
Robert was a great guide and communicator and a former history teacher to give us the back stories to Washington and Mt Vernon.

Very nice, calm and beautiful olace

      Cindy_B, Oct 2023
Frank our driver was excellent and knowledgeable sharing many of the historical and current details of the area. The tour of Mt Vernon was very busy but I found the Mt Vernon staff very accommodating and informative. The mansion and grounds are well preserved and provide some insight to the way of life 200+years ago. Impressive.

      Great Guide

      Barrett_W, May 2023
Robert was a great tour guide. Knowledgeable, personable, and added a touch of variety that made the whole experience enjoyable.

Thanks for your review, honor to serve you

      Worthwhile Trip

      Al_F, May 2023
Robert knows a lot about history and shared interesting information about Mt. Vernon and the Alexandria area. The entire trip was worthwhile in my opinion..

      Great experience!

Our driver provided lots of interesting information about George Washington, Mt Vernon, and old town Alexandria.

Mount Vernon & Old Town Alexandria

      MARY_B, Dec 2019
Enjoyed Mt. Vernon and our guide was very good and knowledgeable. I had hoped to eat at the restaurant there but we did not have enough time so would suggests just Mt. Vernon without going to Alexandria...Only reason I didn't give it an excellent...

      Excellent time @ Mt Vernon

      Susan_L, Nov 2019
We had a wonderful time with our tour guide Joel. He was very entertaining & informative. We wished we had more time to spend at Mt Vernon.

      PROBLEMS

      Christopher H, Nov 2019
There was a problem with communication between Viator and guide company. We were told by Viator pickup at 9AM. Joe called and said he would pickup at 10:30. Different guide arrived at 9:30. Stayed at next hotel stop until 11. Different driver on return was not told what we were told about return stops. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR COMPANY.

      Problème de gestion des réservations

      ANDREE_P, Mar 2024
