A great adventure! Loved everything about it - the bad jokes by our driver, their unique Unimog monster truck vehicles that climb the steep roads thru gorgeous moss covered forest to get you up to the dog camp, the dog sled ride - of course!!, getting to pet the dogs afterward, and then getting to hold many adorable sled dog puppies at the end ! Would 10/10 recommend !

James, our guide, was amazing. The tour was very informative and James made it fun. Emily, our musher, was great. She even took our phone and got some nose bops of the dogs. The educational part of the tour was fun especially seeing the dogs at different stages. And of course, can't forget the puppies! We got to handle them and they were so cute!! Would recommend this tour for all ages.

Don't Miss This Experience!

Allison_C, Sep 2025
This experience was my husband's and my favorite part of our trip to Alaska. The first part of the trip was on a bus, and the guide gave us information on the area and the things we passed as we drove. Once we got to the base camp area, we got on a Unimog, which was a big truck with giant tires. The rest of the ride to the dog sleds was rough, and a little scary if you were sitting on the edge, but it was fun, and the scenery was beautiful. If you like riding ATVs, it's a similar experience. When we got to the top, the dogs were already hooked up to the carts and ready to go. We got on the carts and the dogs took off, and we couldn't believe how fast they were. It was so much fun racing through the forest, and the forest itself just looks so unreal and magical. After we were done with our ride, we got to meet and pet the sled dogs, then we got back on the Unimog and rode down to a beautiful overlook where we took pictures. After looking around there for a few minutes, we finished our ride back to the base camp. At the base camp we met some retired sled dogs and learned more about the dogs and the Iditarod, which is the race the dogs are training for. Next we met the older puppies at the camp, then we got to hold the youngest puppies. After we were done we had a few minutes to look around the store and the coffee shop, then we got back on the bus and rode back to town. During the ride back, the driver gave us more information about the area and we tried to spot wildlife. I can't recommend this experience enough!

Wonderful Experience!

Sled Dog Team

Kim_H, Sep 2025
This was great!!!! Before you even see the dogs, the ride up the mountain in the Unimog was fun!! Then you get to the dogs. Walking in with four teams ready to go, all of them yipping and barking was awesome!!! The ride with them truly showed their power and stamina. Sixteen dogs pulled us. Talia was our musher and went on to explain about the amount of care that goes into taking care of a team that big, and she owns all 16. She was kind enough to not only take our picture in the cart but went on to take many close ups of her dogs too. That was a nice surprise. She even helped me get my book ‘signed’ when we got back to camp by one of the team. I am grateful for that! Then there were the puppies, that was the line that had me sold on this whole excursion. Cuddle time with the puppies was great. They didn’t disappoint. All in all, it was great and I recommend it. I could have done with less stops to view the scenery and a few more minutes meeting the team and holding the puppies, especially since you have to share with others.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hey Kim! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it's always great to have guests with a real enthusiasm and love for the dogs. It's truly their favorite activity to get picked for the sled team that day - thanks for loving on em'. We hope to have you back another year (And to meet the next generation of puppies!)

Dog lovers dream

Angela_G, Sep 2025
If you love the sled dogs, this is the experience for you! We enjoyed being pulled by the adult team and being able to love on them after, meeting a couple of the newly retired dogs as well as the "teenagers" - of course holding the babies is always a highlight. If you're a dog lover - you'll love this! I felt it was reasonably priced for the experience. All transportation was provided, our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. This has been my favorite experience thus far.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hello Angela! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, the dogs love having guests as much as you love meeting them. They've got a lot of energy to get out! We hope to see you again next year.

Fun adventure

Kimberly_B, Aug 2025
We really loved this excursion. Even the ride to and from the mountain was great as we saw seals and bald eagles in the lake. Just a caveat for young families-the puppies are bigger than we were expecting and a hard to hold.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your lovely review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the excursion, and it’s awesome to hear you spotted seals and bald eagles on the way—that’s always a special bonus! We appreciate the heads-up about the puppies; they do grow quickly, and we always want to make sure everyone feels comfortable interacting with them. We’re so glad you had a memorable time overall, and we hope to see you again for another adventure in the future!

Great experience except for dangerous bus ride.

Jacki_M, Aug 2025
The actual sled dog experience was wonderful - we got to meet retired dogs, puppies, and current canine athletes. The ride was a lot of fun and my teenage daughter even got to ride in the back with the musher. The only negative was bad though - the bus AlaskaX sent from the port was dumping handfuls upon handfuls of dust into the bus. It was a health hazard to breath it. The driver tried to air out the bus by driving with the door open and telling us to open the emergency windows, but I still came home covered in dust to the point that I had to wash it out of my hair and clothes. Given where the dogs were located, I really had no choice but to endure it but I literally had my kids covering their mouths and noses with their shirts. It put such a damper on an otherwise wonderful excursion.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

We’re so glad you enjoyed meeting the dogs, puppies, and mushers—it sounds like those moments were truly special. We’re very sorry to hear about the dust issue during transportation. That’s not the experience we want for our guests, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention so we can address it. Thank you for sharing both the highlights and the concerns from your visit.

Great tour

Alissa_S, Aug 2025
Great tour - the dogs and puppies were adorable, and the drive to the dogs was delightful in the local beauty. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because everything felt very rushed. When we first arrived we walked though this beautiful valley with the salmon in the stream, and it would have been great to spend some extra time exploring or looking at the fish - but we were rushed through and asked to not get distracted by the salmon. I wish they had built in additional time to be with the dogs longer and enjoy the area.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

We’re so glad you enjoyed meeting the dogs and puppies and taking in the scenic drive. We truly appreciate your feedback about the pace of the tour. It’s important to us that guests have enough time to enjoy both the animals and the beautiful surroundings, and we’ll share your comments with our team as we review how we can make the experience feel less rushed. Thank you for joining us and for sharing your thoughts.

Pepper and I believe Jessica were great Guides

Tammy_Z, Aug 2025
We, my husband and I and 2 friends enjoyed our Excursion - the Skagway downtown wasn't much other than history explanations, Guide Pepper did a great job with the whole excursion. Then to the Unimog (quite an experience- alittle bumpy but okay) For our ride up the mountain to the camp. Once at camp, our dog sled experience and dog handler was great. It was a good experience. Unimog back down the mountain for our puppy loves was fun and informative. Once again couldn't say enough good things about Pepper our Guide - very personable and accommodating We would give this excursion a 9.5 out of 10

Response from Host, Aug 2025

We’re thrilled to hear you and your friends had such a great time! It’s wonderful that Pepper made the day so enjoyable and memorable — we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words. The Unimog ride is definitely a unique part of the adventure, and we’re glad you enjoyed both the sled experience and the puppy time. A 9.5 out of 10 means a lot to us, and we hope to see you back for a perfect 10 next time!

Best Decision We Made in Alaska!

Dean_D, Jul 2025
This adventure is worth every penny! James, whose reputation seems to be widely known at this point, if you’ve heard about the speaker malfunction and his open mic, was awesome and entertaining! Dad jokes galore. Meeting the puppies was great and we were surprised to learn that we also got to pet, interact with and take pictures with the sled dogs!! A wonderful day all around!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

"So glad you had such a wonderful day! We’ll let James know his legendary dad jokes and lively commentary made the trip even better. The pups (big and small) will be happy to know they stole the show!

We had the best time!! Start to finish it was amazing. The drive over to the camp was gorgeous, our guide gave us lots of history and fun facts. The dogs were all very well cared for. The surrounding views were beautiful. It was so fun to learn about how they train the dogs. And obviously puppy snugging was magical. We would all do this again in a heartbeat.

Room for improvement - easy fixes!

Jill_G, May 2025
Very fun! Pros: puppies. Dogs. Adventure. Wildlife! Cons: it was cold, pretty boring for most of the trip because it takes time to get to the sledding area, dog ride was short, rushed through the puppies time. Advice: I recommend they start with the history of the Iditarod before you get up the mountain and let us play with puppies way more.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for your honest feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the puppies, dogs, and wildlife, and we appreciate your suggestions about improving the timing and flow of the tour. We’ll take your advice to heart to make the experience even better for future guests. Thanks again for sharing!

I don't even have words for this (AND ALL OF ALASKA IS OTHER WORLDLY AND AMAZING)! From traveling to the dogs campsite, seeing them sitting on top of their cabin homes, seeing them jumping, howling and barking in anticipation of running....A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Everyone was unbelievably nice, taking photos of the dogs for us and with us. If you love dogs, active dogs, and as they told us, "SUPER MUTTS," GO SEE THE SLED DOGS. Worth every penny!!
