James, our guide, was amazing. The tour was very informative and James made it fun. Emily, our musher, was great. She even took our phone and got some nose bops of the dogs. The educational part of the tour was fun especially seeing the dogs at different stages. And of course, can't forget the puppies! We got to handle them and they were so cute!! Would recommend this tour for all ages.

You're really going to like this! The ride with the dogs was so fun! Great learning about how they train the dogs for Iditarod. Would have liked a little more time to hold the puppies and browse the gift shop- felt a little rushed.

This was so much fun. We were with Tallia and loved hearing her family's story and about the various litters they've raised. The dogs are really impressive and it was so interesting to see their personalities come out in such a short period of time. Tallia answered so many questions and was great teaching the kids how to safely interact with the dogs. We had beautiful weather and enjoyed the stunning natural beauty of the area we were in. The highlight for the kids was meeting the puppies and getting to snuggle them.

A highlight of our whole trip! This was the best tour!
We had so much fun, got value for money, and had the best experience! The ride in the unimog was great fun. Our tour guide was fantastic. The huskies were adorable, loud, excited & great to meet. Our sled ride was brilliant & so much fun!! Then meeting the huskies, their lovely owner & trainer, and learning about them was fascinating. Loved meeting the puppies & having adorable cuddles! This was certainly a highlight of our holiday & so much fun! The camp was beautiful & so well kept. We enjoyed everything & the whole tour was amazing! Don't miss the opportunity if you have the chance! :)

Shuttles were on time, guides really well informed. We interacted with puppies all the way up to the actual sled dogs, super friendly animals, dog handlers knew each dog by name. Great time all around.
It was nice to know that some of the cost of the excursion is used to care for retired sled dogs.

A bucket list item has been accomplished! Great and wonderful experience ! Thank you to our Guidd Christina and driver Logan!

It was one of the best part of our Alaskan cruise. All the members of our family of different ages thoroughly enjoyed the one of a kind adventure. The tour staff were really nice and excited about what they were doing, and of course the hands on experience with the dogs made it the best!

Loved this excursion! Staff was friendly & knowledgeable. Views from the lookout were outstanding. The pups were lovable! I would highly recommend!

We enjoyed the dog sledding and petting the sled dogs and pups. I liked hearing about the history of dog sledding. It’s one of those activities that you can say you have done. I wouldn’t do it a second time.

This was the perfect excursion for our family with our two kids ages 2 1/2 and 6 1/2. It’s about a 35 minute shuttle ride from the port so it isn’t too long and you get to experience a lot of different elements between writing in the slide with the 16 dogs, pulling you, meeting the dogs, learning about the history of the Iditarod and snuggling puppies. Our kids had a blast, and it was beautiful as well as informative. There is a little shop at the end where you can buy commemorative things and some chips, but otherwise make sure you bring snacks. We had Houston as our guide who was awesome, especially with our kids, and Ethan was our sled guide. Absolutely would recommend!

We had a great time at this tour! The ride on the dog sled was very fun and of course playing with the puppies. Also learning about the history of the race and the dogs was very cool! I would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone travelling to Skagway.

Such a cute operation! Only complaint is that I would have liked more time at base camp to explore the shops. Great experience all around.
Jeffrey_S, Jun 2026
Amazing experience for all ages. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Dog sleds, holding adorable puppies, riding through the beautiful forest, hot cocoa, popcorn and more!
Ashley_W, Jun 2026
Houston was phenomenal. Our group had two kids ages 11 and 8. We could not have had a better time. Our musher was as well. Great mix of adventure and history!
tim_v, Jun 2026
What a fun experience my daughter and I had a blast the dogs were great and we me the new and old dogs coming from camp.

Fun interactive experience. Appropriate for all members of family. Those with mobility challenges may have some difficulty getting in and out of umalog. There is some walking. Great time with the dogs and with the puppies. The umalog to the mushers camp is a unique experience. Can’t take a pup with you, but there are souvenirs and snacks available.

A lovely experience to get more into the forest. See the beautiful dogs enjoy a ride. By the dogs. A lot of information about the cure of the mushing dogs. And you can experience holding a puppy. Beautiful scenery all around. But if you get off a cruise ship, make sure you tell your driver which cruise ship you're on. Otherwise, you might be dropped off opposite of where you need to be. And that is a long walk

The staff was incredibly knowledgeable regarding the dogs and you could tell that they were loved and well-cared for!

This was by far one of the best excursions we have been on, but we are also huge dog lovers!!
Being able to learn about the Alaskan Huskies and their love for dogsledding, as well as being able to go for a ride, meet the dogs, and the puppies was beyond amazing!!
Our musher, Nathan, and tour guide, Houston, were awesome as well!!
I would highly recommend this tour when visiting Skagway!

Our family went (kids 8 and 10) and had a fantastic time! The kids loved how interactive it was. Being pulled by the dogs even on the summer sled with wheels was great. Some other places were using motor assisted ATVs but these were pulled solely by the dogs. We were able to talk with the musher who owned the dogs and then met the team that pulled us. Next, was meeting a couple of retired racers, learning their story and the history of the Iditarod. Then we were able to see the young dogs in training and see how they start to practice for becoming a sled dog, then finally puppy snuggles with 7 week old puppies. The staff were all super friendly. Would highly recommend!

This excursion is amazing! Our tour guide, Patrick, was fantastic. Gave us so much history about Skagway but also kept it light with plenty of dad jokes. The musher camp was super cool and our kids (ages 10, 8, 5) had an absolute blast. Everyone on the team was so friendly and answered every question we had. We had Alex for our Musher and he answered every question our kids had about all the dogs. He took great pictures of our family and let us love on his dogs too!
Hearing the history behind it all was so great and seeing the hard work and dedication this team has for these animals and the camp is truly amazing.

I had no expectation about this excursion but it may have been one of the funnest excursions we did while in Alaska. All the staff were super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Great tour for families. We enjoyed talking to mushers and interact with the racing dogs. Great outlook spot on the way. Little puppies were very cute!!

The AlaskaX team was amazing! Our family had a stop in Skagway and we just finished the Sled Dog & Musher’s Camp Adventure and it was incredible! Thanks to our guide, Cameron, our driver Jason, and our Musher- Stef! They made this adventure stellar. And…Sarah, you win MVP, because you let us hold puppies! 🤣

A perfect opportunity to get up close with the Alaska Huskies. Well run experience and very friendly staff.

This experience was my husband's and my favorite part of our trip to Alaska. The first part of the trip was on a bus, and the guide gave us information on the area and the things we passed as we drove. Once we got to the base camp area, we got on a Unimog, which was a big truck with giant tires. The rest of the ride to the dog sleds was rough, and a little scary if you were sitting on the edge, but it was fun, and the scenery was beautiful. If you like riding ATVs, it's a similar experience. When we got to the top, the dogs were already hooked up to the carts and ready to go. We got on the carts and the dogs took off, and we couldn't believe how fast they were. It was so much fun racing through the forest, and the forest itself just looks so unreal and magical. After we were done with our ride, we got to meet and pet the sled dogs, then we got back on the Unimog and rode down to a beautiful overlook where we took pictures. After looking around there for a few minutes, we finished our ride back to the base camp. At the base camp we met some retired sled dogs and learned more about the dogs and the Iditarod, which is the race the dogs are training for. Next we met the older puppies at the camp, then we got to hold the youngest puppies. After we were done we had a few minutes to look around the store and the coffee shop, then we got back on the bus and rode back to town. During the ride back, the driver gave us more information about the area and we tried to spot wildlife.
I can't recommend this experience enough!

Staff was amazing, our musher was full of tons of interesting information. He patiently answered all of our questions. The dogs were sweet and so excited to pull the sled. They are very well taken care of!
Puppies were adorable ♥️

This was great!!!! Before you even see the dogs, the ride up the mountain in the Unimog was fun!! Then you get to the dogs. Walking in with four teams ready to go, all of them yipping and barking was awesome!!! The ride with them truly showed their power and stamina. Sixteen dogs pulled us. Talia was our musher and went on to explain about the amount of care that goes into taking care of a team that big, and she owns all 16. She was kind enough to not only take our picture in the cart but went on to take many close ups of her dogs too. That was a nice surprise. She even helped me get my book ‘signed’ when we got back to camp by one of the team. I am grateful for that! Then there were the puppies, that was the line that had me sold on this whole excursion. Cuddle time with the puppies was great. They didn’t disappoint. All in all, it was great and I recommend it. I could have done with less stops to view the scenery and a few more minutes meeting the team and holding the puppies, especially since you have to share with others.

Hey Kim! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it's always great to have guests with a real enthusiasm and love for the dogs. It's truly their favorite activity to get picked for the sled team that day - thanks for loving on em'. We hope to have you back another year (And to meet the next generation of puppies!)
Angela_G, Sep 2025
If you love the sled dogs, this is the experience for you! We enjoyed being pulled by the adult team and being able to love on them after, meeting a couple of the newly retired dogs as well as the "teenagers" - of course holding the babies is always a highlight. If you're a dog lover - you'll love this! I felt it was reasonably priced for the experience. All transportation was provided, our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. This has been my favorite experience thus far.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Hello Angela! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, the dogs love having guests as much as you love meeting them. They've got a lot of energy to get out! We hope to see you again next year.

I don’t know where to start… so organized and professional! Overall an incredible day with so much adventure! The dog sledding was like nothing else we have ever done before! Our driver was so kind and considerate and most of all knew so much history… we all loved it! The ride out was beautiful !! This is a must do in Skagway!!!
