Itinerary

Meet your guide and group of no more than six in the early evening. Your tour coincides with aperitivo time, when locals enjoy pre-dinner drinks and snacks.

Hear about this tradition from your sommelier-guide and begin your stroll to discover the city’s culinary highlights. Venues may vary, but your route includes stops with tastings equivalent to a 5-course lunch or dinner with drinks.

Start at a welcoming bar and enjoy a glass of Prosecco and finger food. Then, head into Rome’s former Jewish ghetto, one of the world’s oldest still-lived-in Jewish quarters. Stroll through piazzas and lanes as your guide details Jewish cuisine, and how it provided the foundation of Roman gastronomy.

Visit an eatery to sample the Roman-Jewish staples of artichoke alla giudia (deep-fried artichoke) and fiori di zucca (fried, stuffed zucchini flowers) teamed with more Prosecco.

As the Italian adage ‘l'appetito vien mangiando’ – ‘appetite comes with eating’ goes, feel your hunger build, and then continue into Rome’s historical center.

While you walk and talk, pass some famous landmarks, and hear about their history and connections with Roman food. Learn how Rome’s Street food obsession grew during the 1960s and ‘70s, and sample pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice). Savor the authentic flavors, and learn about pinza, Rome’s lighter version of pizza, and the difference between thick and thin pizzas.

Then, head inside one of Rome's most glamorous restaurants, overlooking the 2nd-century Pantheon. Savor homemade pasta with local wine as you admire the floodlit building and learn about Roman pasta and the significance of your dish.

Next, visit a popular gelateria (ice cream parlor) where the ice cream is made with season-fresh ingredients, and enjoy some of Rome’s most acclaimed gelato.

Your tour then finishes in central Rome.

Ask for AJ! This was so much fun for me and my kids! Great tour around the neighborhoods of Rome. From the Jewish Ghetto to Fiori de Campo to the Pantheon. All 5 stops were great and we were absolutely stuffed at the end. This was my kids favorite tour and AJ was a wonderful host.

Great Way To Learn About Rome Food Scene

Robert_C, Oct 2024
We booked a private tour for the two of us upon arrival in Rome. Our guide, AJ, was fantastic and provided us with a lot of great advice and recommendations for our week in Rome. Definitely recommend! 10/10!

We all loved the tour. The food, of course, was excellent. Alessandro was a great host, friendly, interesting and knowledgeable, and even took us to a taxi rank at the end of the tour. 10/10. We've already recommended the tour to friends.

Absolutely fabulous, delicious event

Having taken 4 other food tours internationally we agree Rhianne’s was definitely the best for imparting the cultural heritage of the dishes, her cheerful enthusiasm adding a wonderfully artistic flair to every taste and local business.

Best thing to do in Rome

Sue_C, Jun 2024
This was one of our most favorite experiences while in Italy. AJ From LIVTours was awesome. We so enjoyed rach and every one of the restaurants AJ took us to and her knowledge of Historic highlights between each restaurant that she pointed out to us were things we never would’ve found on our own. She did a great job and we highly recommend Liv Tours.

Good but not what we expected

Monica_C, Jan 2023
We wanted a fun experience as it was New Year’s Eve. Our guide Marta was very accommodating and spoke perfect English. She texted before the tour to ask if we had any special requests. We left the details of which foods to try to her, and maybe we should have been more specific. We tried three pastas, some meats and cheeses in a restaurant in Campo di Fiori neighborhood. The food was good but not great. Then we went to a local bakery where we had white pizza and an excellent green lasagna - we wish we had started there instead. Finally we tried the fried artichoke in the Jewish Ghetto neighborhood and it was good but we didn’t care for the other two fried foods. We had three desserts that were tasty. Marta was very sweet and easy to speak with but we wish she had told us more about the foods we had. Overall it was a nice evening. P.S. she did recommend a great gelato place to try the next day.

We were on time for the tour but because we were on time, the restaurant wasn’t ready for us so we went to a chain pizza place and started with okay pizza instead of Jewish artichokes. By the time we got to the restaurant where we were to have artichokes, we were late and they had given our table away. The other stops were unremarkable. Overall, the bottom line is that it was nowhere near worth the price and greatly disappointing.

Rome Small Group Food Experience, request AJ!

Erica_J, Sep 2022
We were visiting Rome for the first part of our honeymoon and booked this food and wine tour for a fun way to see the city and experience multiple restaurants. We booked the small group tour, but ended up being the only couple with AJ, our guide. AJ was absolutely fabulous! She was excited and engaging. She asked great questions and shared lots of knowledge regarding the food, wine, and local culture. She was accommodating and professional. We walked through several neighborhoods and appreciated the variety in the food we tried. We started with small plates/a first course in the Jewish ghetto neighborhood, moved to another spot for cheese and meats, then onto Roman style pizza, pasta, and ended with gelato. We had so much fun and highly recommend this tour, but specifically AJ. She made our experience so special and memorable. As we finished our tour she gave us additional recommendations for tourist attractions, areas to check out for shopping, and restaurants for an area we were visiting later in our trip. Thank you AJ!

What a lovely evening in Rome. Our tour consisted of 5 stops all within a short walking distance of each other and it was just an amazing experience full of not only great food, but great sights as well. Our tour consisted of a couple spots for starters, a pizza stop, a pasta stop and then of course a stop for gelato. In between each stop, we got to learn a little bit about the area of the city we were walking in. I was very impressed by not only the amount of Italian food knowledge our tour guide had, but her overall knowledge of Rome as well. Of course the best part was still the food. We were so full by the end of the tour I could barely finish my gelato of course I pushed through tho. This tour is a must for anyone visiting Rome for the first time.

Our guide Tiffany was very knowledgeable, patient and...nice looking. The tour was not only about eating habits, but also about history of the streets, buildings we were walking around. You shouldn't expect fancy food, but it was fun and well arranged.

Fantastic Tour! Dario Deluca was the guide. He made us feel like we were his friend and he was taking us out for the evening. The food was great. The deep fried artichoke was a new and delicious experience. We finished the evening with creamy gelato. Thanks for making my bday a memorable one.
