The first tour i purchased through Viator, in English, was cancelled 1 week before I was to take it. The only other tour I could get was in Italian. I showed up for it but there was no tour. I called the tour operator who indicated that Viator had never communicated my reservation to them. It must have been true as Viator refunded me - otherwise I'd have given them no stars. This tour was a major reason for me visiting Rome. Once was bad. Two is unforgivable. Do your own research and go direct to operators.
While the experince of visiting Domus Aurea was wonderful, the ticketing arrangements leave much to be desired? Whiywas there separate ticket collection / entry? We were give vague directions for ticket pickup which directected us to an unrelated tour operator, who only through their help were able they directed us to the pickup. The ticket issuing agent did not make themselves visible, instead choosing to sit hidden on a wall making herself as invisible as possible.
Many people arrive late to the site becuase of the issue.
Top marks for the actual tour and tour guide but minus oner star for the woeful ticketing!!
This was an amazingly informative & interesting tour. One of the most fascinating sites of Rome!!! I've been to Rome several times and didn't even know about this until my daughter suggested it.
A definite MUST!
Well interpreted with movies and virtual goggles. A great new experience in Nero’s 150 room pleasure palace.
Incredible insight into the grandeur of ancient Rome. Loved the VR experience and our guide, Claudia, was brilliant.
An incredible experience to see something not many people get to see. I loved every minute of it!
It is chilly underground, so make sure you bring a jacket!
Beautiful place and our guide, Claudia, was great!! The 3d experience in the end was also very good.
Very disappointed, our guide never did show up for the tour. The Park officers let us join with a different tour. It was very hard to hear and understand the guide.
Although the tour and subject matter was great - misleading on the number of people on the tour. Said max of 20 - I think ours had about 26-28 ((tried to count). You need smaller numbers because when you are taken into a “room”, if there are too many of you, you are still in the other room trying to peer in and hear what is said. I picked this tour because of the number of people was a max. Also grossly over priced - we received the ticket a few days before saying it was 18 euro each. I know Viator need to make a profit, but that is ridiculous.
It is a great experience, nobody should miss it. Gabriel was a superb guide, very knowledgable and entertaining
Much more than expected. Really clear explanations on what we were looking it and where everything was. I would highly recommend taking a tour with your company.
The Domus Aurea is an amazing survivor from the past. The size is mind-boggling and the innovative technology it housed is hard to believe. The tour was very informative, the guide very knowledgeable. The VR experience was quite moving. You really do experience one room of the Domus as it was. It brought tears to my eyes.
Everything was so nice about this tour - Viator was amazing! I had been running around for weeks before and was unsure if I would be able to obtain tickets yet Viator handled everything and the tour was an amazing experience. Highly recommend!
The knowledgeable guide, graphic and digital representations of the Domus were excellent in explaining the historical context, historical layers, rediscovery of the Domus in the 16th century, and in subsequent centuries reinterpretation, preservation, and transformation.
The guide did not show up!!! The instructions given to us about the process was not correct. The directions on where to meet were not correct.
Entrance 5 min before tour starts. Local price 16€, but prebooking 49€.. Very rich and smart guide leaded us through the huge subterrain complex of rooms, halls and multimedia productions. Highlightet by the vision through a 3D-goggle. Great ending with the big octogon room. Unfortunately no library service at the sudden exit.
We had problems at the entrance because Viator, who sold us tickets, sent us only wouchers and not tickets. Since you can’t enter with wouchers, the entry was impossible. After I called agency they sent us tickets so we’ve solved the problem.
Guide in Domus Aurea was kind, but her english was very poor. The projection was perfect. Overall it was a good experience.
The tour was very informative highlighting the architecture and inside decoration of Domus Aurea; the 3D experience at the end was fascinating
Amazing experience. Highly recommended. It is nice to see the remaining original drawings and building.
The entry was a bit hard to find from where we entered (By the colosseum) helpful tip… it’s the 2nd entrance on the left. We booked our ticket last min and were still able to get a reservation. This is the same tour you book from the website directly.
This was an amazing experience and should be on everyone’s bucket list. The tour was underground but the rooms we visited had vaulted ceilings and it did not feel too small. The current theme is related to Egyptian influences on Nero; the guide was very knowledgeable and kept a good pace. No hard hat was required on our tour.
We enjoed the 45 minutes we were able rto participate in very much. We were very disapointed in the unuaually poor communication with Viator the caused us to join the tour 15 minutes late and almost miss it altogether. The kindness and assistance of the security and program staff at Domus Aurea were greatly appreciated. We were suprised and unhappy with the poor customer service from Viator with whom we had many prior satisfactory experiences.
Amazing experience. One of the top activities we did while in Rome! Fascinating. Near the Colosseum so easily accessible from there.
Beautiful fresco work, I was surprised at the quality of painting that was still visable. amazing space. The guide was very knowledgeable and passionate.
We booked this just for something to do on our last day, as many things were fully booked. It far exceeded our expectations. The guide was very knowledgable, and the house itself was fascinating. The virtual reality was excellent and brought it all to life. We brought jumpers as instructed, but did not need them: to us it was pleasantly cool!
The worst experience with a tour in all my visits to Italy. I was charged $100 and never entered. The admissions tour was the rudest person I have ever encountered and the guide was nowhere to be found. I will be protesting this charge!
Had a great time seeing the domus. Very good guide. Definitely worth seeing
Little known off the beaten track.
It is a very interesting place to visit. The tour guide is amazing and willing to share more stories and answer our questions.
Wonderful tour with a very knowledgeable guide! Definitely worth the time. Our guide knew so much and this was a perfect activity for a sweltering hot day
The VR presentation. It was really like time travelling and really helped you to imagine what things looked like at the time the Domus Aurea was built and redesigned
