Wow. We had fantastic seats. We got to meeting point at 6:15am. Got our tickets and then began walking towards the Vatican. We got through security fast and escorted to our seats 15 rows back from VIPs. Pope Leo IX came out in pope mobile 40 minutes before and rode around. I still have goose bumps from being there and listening to the Pope speak.

Not quite a tour, more of an experience.

This did not end up being an experience so much as the guide pointing us in the correct direction and letting us go. We arrived early to the meeting point only to find a chaotic scene of tables and lines in every direction along with other confused tourists. The meeting spot is a popular coffee shop (or bar as they say in Rome!) and there are tables set up that appear to be for several different tour companies, but are the same company set up with certain languages each. The table for our tour was in the middle and had a sign that said English, Italian, Spanish, etc. you have to wait in that line to sign in and they give you a sticker with the language you speak and point you in the direction of a guide holding a stick with a flag, stuffed animal, bag, cloth, etc on it who will be your guide for the tour. When we arrived it took us some time and asking around to find the table, and when we got to the front to check in he said they have our guide ready for us and pointed her out, and mentioned they have two groups. A larger one with more people or a smaller one my grandma who has a mobility scooter with would be more comfortable in. We chose the smaller group and they asked us to wait behind the table. They pointed us in the direction of a guide named Laura and when we went over to her and she saw my grandma, she told us we would set out shortly, but because of my grandmas scooter she would show us the handicap entrance and speak with the guards, but then that we were on our own. The group had about 10 people in it. Laura was nice enough, but she did exactly that. We got Audio headsets so we would be able to hear her, and she guided us to the entrance for the handicap patrons to at. Peter’s square, spoke with the guards who led us into a separate line, and then took our headsets back and disappeared. She told us when we got through if we wanted we could wait for them or just find seating on our own. The line they had to wait in was much longer to get through security, so we tried to wait for them but didn’t want it to fill up so we headed for our seats. From previous reviews of this tour and several other ‘papal audience experience’ tours, I knew that we had to get close to a barricade or wall to be able to see the pope. We arrived for the tour around 7am to the meeting spot, but on the way there discovered there were already lines of people who had been waiting since 5am to get in when security opens at the entrances into St. Peter’s square, so if you are going on your own be prepared to get there early if you want great seats. After Laura led us to security after we checked in, we arrived closer to 7:45 am, and the very front of the first section of seating to the public was not even 1/3 filled up yet. We only got in easily and quickly because of my grandmas scooter. We entered and went for the front section and to the barricade on the left and were lucky enough to end up one seat away from the barricade on the left. Which means we were able to see the pope as he drove past on his pope mobile! He was approximately 10ft away, if that, and I got an amazing video as he drove past and stopped to kiss a baby. We never saw Laura again, or anyone else from our group for this experience. Which was probably a good thing, because by 830 St. Peter’s square was absolutely PACKED. If we had waited I have no idea where we would have been seated but it would never have been as close as we managed to get. Best tips; if you get there early, there is seating as far back as the eye can see in all of the sections, so unless you are very late or don’t enter security, you will not have to stand. Also, when you enter, head right for the wall/barricade near the isles. That is where the pope drives past. We did not consider this a tour as we were only lead to the security and left on our own, but Laura was very nice and friendly, and happily answered questions as she led us to the security entrance.

Our guide Elaina is the best, she guided us to the best spot right to the very first seats with some great strategy. And we were able to get some great shots of the Pope.

Sabrina is amazing

Jessica_K, Jun 2025
Sabrina was an outstanding guide. We are traveling with four kids from the age of 6 to 14 2 of which have autism. This makes crowds of this size particularly difficult for our family. She made sure that we were able to stay close to her and that my kids understood exactly what was happening as we were walking through the crowd. She was able to position our family in a spot that was Easy viewing of the pope. But also kept us from the biggest part of the crowd. It would’ve been almost impossible for us to manage this. Otherwise, if we had just gone with getting tickets from the Vatican directly. Highly recommend Sabrina and the tour

This experience is intimate but what is shared is the perfect organization under the effective coordination and animation of our guide Veronica. Explanations and information from him made it possible to associate this rare moment and contextualize it to appreciate it all the more. Thank you for that Veronica.
