Strong feeling to be cheated when paying twice the price, with an uncorrect address.
I will recommend to go directly to the official site.
Viator should be more explicit about the fact that no added service is provided.

Very interesting tour. Amazing to see how they can recreate history with light. The tour was 1.5 hours and everything was explained in great detail. It is a lot of just standing so wear comfortable shoes.
Eleanor H, Apr 2018
An amazing tour of the hidden foundations and mosaics of two Roman houses. Very informative commentary which more than offset the slightly nervous experience of walking on see-through floors!
Susan H, Mar 2018
A wonderful tour which came to life through the VERY clever lighting and video displays. Just a small thing that could affect some visitors is that you walk along a glass floor, which is safe, but for some visitors who are affected by height, this needs a little getting used to but should not put you off! A wonderful experience!

Unique experience to see what a Roman house looked like.

This was a rare gem. The only thing I'd change is how not obvious the meeting point is. After spending a week looking for a person, I was not expecting the meeting point to be an actual door into a building I didn't really know much about this tour, it was a last minute add-on. The guide didn't speak much English, but it didn't matter because the whole tour was done as pre-recorded audio. To get below the city street and see the ancient mosaics, and pottery, and columns - it was amazing. And very interactive though interactive is the best word, but it wasn't really interactive... the use of lighting to point out what you were looking at over the plexiglass floor was fantastic. You really felt a part of the world. There were almost no people on the tour, which was a nice change of pace.

This an inventive and unique presentation of ancient history.

We had seen the Domus Valentini about 4 yrs ago when it initially opened. It was good then.
Now it is absolutely FANTASTIC. The program was almost 1 1/2 hr long and included portions of the primary house that had never been previously excavated, plus another domus next door, plus seeing part of the bunker that Mussolini built in WWII, plus a tunnel going to the base of the nearby Trajan's Column.

Brings archaeology and the Roman past alive! This was an exceptional experience appropriate for anyone interested in gaining a more vivid understanding of what the ruins can tell us. Enjoy this multi-media, archaeological look back at the Palazzo Valentini which bite is priced at a great value.

interesting tour, not the usual tour, interactiveness not a word but appropriate was very different

Awesome. Enough lights and technology to keep the children interested. Would definitely recomend including this in your itinery.

It can be difficult to really wrap your mind around the ruins and what thing would have looked like. This museum does a great job of helping to put the experience together.
Kenneth K, Sep 2016
Surprisingly good. Great visual effects add greatly to the tour.

Disney meets Rome. Very interesting visuals to enhance understanding of Roman life.

This is a very historical tour. It is amazing how medieval buildings were built on top of priceless Roman mosaic floors. I thought it was very educational. Children might get squirmy.

This was one of my favorite tours in Rome. My wife, who is not as big of a Roman history fan as I am, said that she had a great time and was amazed by the presentation of the Domus. If you have time for a tour while in Rome, this should be it.

We did this tour on our first full day in Rome. From the outside entrance, the Palazzo Valentini doesn't stand out amongst Rome's monuments, but inside it's a different story. We were taken below the Palazzo to see the remains of two opulent villas: the first with an extensive bath complex, and the second with a beautiful mosaic floor. Through most of the tour, you are walking on a glass floor, suspended over the remains, which are illuminated as the commentary explains what you are looking at. At certain points, reconstructions of what the villas would have looked like are projected onto walls and floors. It has been stunningly realised. A bonus for us near the end, was a short film explaining the story of Trajan's column directly outside, which is like a comic strip, winding up to the top. The tour lasts for an hour and a half, and although the price is more than the twelve euros we paid later in the week for a joint ticket to the Colisseum, Forum and Palatine Hill, which is a bargain btw!, we think this is a not to be missed tour. Even Romans don't know about this tour, as the villas were only discovered in 2005, and the computer visualisation tour is probably quite recent. It doesn't feature very highly in some of the guidebooks, but it is a great introduction to life in Ancient Rome, and helps you to make sense of what you are looking at as you walk around the ruins of other houses in the city. It has to be one of the best things we saw during our stay.

Beautifully presented and really brings a Roman house to life. The kids loved it too.

Totally frustrated with the tour operator. We were given the voucher but no specific time. Even after calling several times, even on the morning of the day, we were not sure the exact time. No point of booking it via Viator. Maybe a better way is to buy ticket directly on the website. The tour is interesting and worth going to see.

I found it hard to find this place for the start of the tour. I almost missed the tour. The address given is the museum itself and on the front of the museum there is no number to check. The tour is conducted by staff of the museum and it wasn't an inspiring commentary. They just seemed to go through the motions and wanted you to move speedily from room to room, sometimes in the dark. The ruins themselves are marvellous and the sheer joy of seeing the overcomes the lack of guidance. I think the organisers need to be more customer oriented to make the tour the delight it should be.
Domenico D, Jun 2016
Fantastic alternative view of Ancient Rome. Unfortunately our flight was late and we missed our pre-booked session however the staff were more than accommodating.
During this tour, you walk on top of Ancient Rome in dimmed lighting. Fire, water, and reproduced flooring is superimposed over the existing ruins for a truly unique experience
MYRA_Y, Jun 2016
innovative museum. The floor lit up to hight light the display as pictorial image projected on the wall to help you imagine how life in the 300AD.
Margaret_M, May 2016
An excellent tour. Well worth doing. Note, however, that finding the meeting place can be a challenge with much construction activity in the area. But worth the effort. Highly recommended.

This was a really interesting tour of an archeological site in Rome. If you're interested in ancient Rome, I would recommend it. Since much of what you are viewing is thousands of years old, the curators have created video enhancements to show what the places probably looked like in their prime, and that is really interesting. My only caution is that if you have trouble with your vision, this might not be the best place for you as the floors of the exhibit are glass to better enable you to see the excavations, and I found it a little difficult to navigate at times. I can see that if a person can't see well, it might be very challenging. Otherwise, I recommend this.

This is a must visit trip for those interested in Roman history. Terrific layout clearly expressed.
Vladimir S, Apr 2016
This was, without a doubt, the best museum experience in my life. They make the house come alive using projections that tickle imagination. If I had to choose only one thing to see in Rome, this would be it!
Ian G, Mar 2016
If you have limited time, this is very good. But if you have more time then then the various Museums can provide more information. That said, this is a very well presented tour, the multimedia elements help to really bring the information to life. Note that some of the spaces are quite tight, and the glass floors take a little getting used to.
Janet C, Mar 2016
Very informative and fascinating look at an ancient Roman villa. Would highly recommend it.
Elizabeth S, Feb 2016
The online booking was a problem. I requested the 2:30 tour time, but was given a 1:30 time which we knew we could not keep because we had another tour in the morning across town. Viator would not rebook for a different day or time, so in the end we had to join the tour late.

Originally booked this tour since I had a gap in my schedule and needed a place filler. Boy I am glad I did. Highly recommended.
