Ulupalakua Ranch Tours and Tickets

Ulupalakua Ranch is a working cattle ranch located on the southwestern slopes of the Haleakalā Volcano, spanning 11,000 acres (4,450 hectares). Brangus and Angus cattle are raised here, and the ranch serves as a unique wildlife habitat—it’s the only place on the island where elk roam.

To get to Ulupalakua Ranch from central Maui, take the Road to Hana—also known as the Hana Highway—(route 36) to the Haleakalā Highway (route 37). After you pass the town of Kēōkea, continue for 6 miles (10 kilometers) to reach the ranch. The scenic drive to the ranch from Kula is a huge draw to the area, and free parking is available.

Most visitors to Ulupalakua Ranch come for the scenic drive and to visit the ranch store, where you can purchase ranch-raised meat, locally made crafts, clothing, and ranch-related gifts. The Ranch Grill restaurant is open for lunch, serving a variety of burgers: grass-fed beef, venison, elk, taro, and lamb. MauiWine is also located on the property.

Reservations for MauiWine are encouraged, but walk-ins are accommodated if space is available. You can make reservations for tastings and property tours on the MauiWine website. Tasting flights, wines by the glass, wine cocktails, and light bites are available for purchase. The Ranch Grill restaurant is across the street if you prefer a heartier meal.

Yes, Ulupalakua Ranch is family-friendly. The ranch store and Ranch Grill are casual and make an ideal stop on any scenic upcountry drive. There are parks nearby for those who want to make a day out: Sun Yat Sen, Keokea, and Harold W. Rice Parks. Children are also allowed at MauiWine, although it's considered more of an adult environment.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ulupalakua Ranch, including Haleakalā National Park, Haleakalā Crater, and the Kula Botanical Garden. For those who want to see some animals on their visit to Upcountry Maui, a stop at Surfing Goat Dairy or Maui Alpaca is a must. The Maui Bee Sanctuary is also located near the ranch.
