What To Expect

On the day of your surf lesson, meet at Kalama Park, which is centrally located in Kihei by local shops and restaurants. This area is known as the heart of surfing on Maui’s south side. You'll want to show up a little bit before your actual lesson time to check in. Your departure time depends on which style lesson you chose.

Your lesson begins with a warm welcome from your instructor. He or she gets you suited up in a rash guard, reef shoes, and a surf board, of course. Then, he or she shows you the ropes with a brief safety instruction.

Afterward, it’s time for your land lesson. Whether you’re a beginner surfing for your first time or an experience surfer, there’s always something to get out of a lesson. Instructors cater to your level, and make sure you feel comfortable on the board before setting you up to catch some waves.

Learn to love surfing in 2 short hours

Sophie and Jessica were fabulous. They were friendly and encouraging and made learning to surf easy. My 11 year old had a permanent smile on his face. They taught us how to get up on land and then took us out in the water. They maneuvered the boards into place for us and told us when to paddle and to get up so we could focus on technique rather than timing at first. As we improved they let us figure out the timing a bit more independently while still helping my 11 year old to paddle back out rather than exhausting himself with paddling. It was a great way to spend a morning.

This was such a fun way to spend a morning! Both my daughters (16 and 9) were up on the board and surfing on their first try. Sasha was a great instructor and made sure they had a blast. Parking was super easy and convenient; the photographer got great photos and was also a helpful presence in the water if my younger one needed a push back out into the waves. Easy shore location for others to watch, video, etc. Would definitely do this again on a future trip! The only change I would make would be to start as early as possible. We booked a 930 lesson, which is the busiest time in the water. After we booked they offered us 730, saying the waves and crowds would be better, but we declined it. That was our mistake, but even so the girls loved it!

Highly recommend this! Easy to find. Provided shoes, shirt, & boards. Instructor did lesson on land then got us in water quickly. Also helped with safe way to dismount given the rocks. Instructor got us all up & surfing quickly. Also had Elijah taking pics the whole time for purchase. Strongly encourage them!!

Our teenage boys loved it! They had only surfed once before, and the instructor had them up on long rides in no time. They said there were sea turtles swimming with them as they surfed. Amazing!
