Overview

Spend some time out on the waters around Maui aboard a fishing boat. Join a small group and depart from Lahaina Harbor for a day of light tackle bottom fishing. Cast your line for several species of fish including snappers, jacks, and wrasses. Your crew is available to clean your catch for you to cook later or you can take it to a nearby restaurant and have them prepare it.

Makai Adventures, you cannot go wrong with them. It was my husband and I and just one other couple, very nice small group. Our captain made sure to move around a lot to make sure we all got a bite and was very helpful in showing us the best way to go about fishing! Definitely recommend to any new or veteran fishers. Of course could not beat those beautiful views!

A Complete Package

Captain was personable, knowledgeable, and found us the fish. Instructions were a bit above beginner as far as terminology, but all parties had prior experience so he probably would have explained more for complete beginners. Lots of speeding between locations that will cool you off after fishing in the sun for a short while. The shade on the boat definitely does not support the possible 8 people fishing at once, so absolutely bring sun protection. Very helpful and prepared during bouts of seasickness as well!

I’ve been on charters from Florida to Alaska and they all got something wrong with them, but these guys work hard to find the fish and keep you on the fish. Everyone on the boat caught fish they give you the option to keep or release your fish, and if you decide to keep it they’ll clean it for you and recommend to take it to a local restaurant or tell you how to do it yourself. My one complaint and this is because I enjoy fishing to much is I wish it was more then 4 hours, it’s just to much fun to not want to do more! Highly recommend this to anyone! I will be back again!

Highly recommend this for anyone visiting Maui - I am an avid fisherman back in Wisconsin and loved this experience. Kevin and Jenna were awesome captains! As it happens on any fishing trip, we hit a few dead spots during the first 30 minutes (out of four hours) but Kevin wasted no time getting us to where the fish were biting. It was a thrill reeling in those Nabeta! We also saw a pod of dolphins and some cool sharks.

Honest and great customer service

Me and the family went out @ a 12pm start. The crew was on time, got us on board and safety protocols went by fast. We went out on the water and tried a few spots but the water and the wind were not in agreement. The captain let’s us know that we were not going to do great and called it in. Per management we were given the choice of reschedule or refund. We wanted to reschedule but our plans were not going to work out. They issued a refund. I want to thank them for there honest and customer service. Maybe next time!!! Mahalo

Beautiful day. Slow fishing, but not for lack of trying by the captain. Mostly very small fish. Saw a huge tiger shark!

I am Kevin, the captain that drove that day! Thank you for coming out with Makai Adventures!! I remember that trip and it was so awesome to see that tiger shark while fishing! Light tackle bottom fishing is a very interactive. It is a lot of up and down, feeling for nibbles, setting the hook and fighting fish. Not everything we catch is a keeper but we do work hard to get our guests good eating fish to enjoy. It may feel like we bounce around a lot it’s because we are doing our best to keep the boat on fish by watching our fish finder and bottom depth in order to stay over the environment where fish are. This is why we move the boat throughout the trip. We fish seamounts sand flats valleys ledges all of which require different strategies because of this we need to reset drifts in order to do our best to catch fish. I promise you I always do my very best to increase the chances of our customers in catching the best fish I can. It’s important that I don’t waste time in spots where there are no fish or fish that we don’t want to catch not keepers. With light tackle bottom fishing we aim to fish for smaller pan-fry fish including smaller jacks and wrasse in comparison to sport-fishing with go after the really big marlin, ahi, and Maui. We hope we are lucky enough to have you try your luck with us again in the future for a five-star review!

Tough Fishing in Hawaii, but Great Experience

Didn’t get put on a ton of fish, but it was still a lot of fun. Only feedback was on the equipment, and primarily the hooks. Smaller hooks might have let the fish be less spooky. The hooks might be dull for safety reasons, not sure though. I would go on this tour again.

Aloha! Thank you for choosing to fish with us! We are glad you had a fun time. Our hook size is based on the average size fish caught during our trips- too small of a hook and they tend to bend. As for sharpness, Iʻll have to look into that. We donʻt dull them for safety reasons(just give everyone a good warning to be careful!) and know that a sharp hook definitely helps with the catching.
