Pickup is included from central Lisbon hotels, Lisbon Cruise Terminal and Lisbon Airport. Please provide the name of hotel, your cruise ship or your flight number, depending on the case. The tour begins at the time indicated on the voucher at the chosen location.
Itinerary
Greet your guide at your hotel, then hop aboard your vehicle as you amble to your first destination. On route, your private guide provides a historical overview of Lisbon’s Jewish community.
Stop first at a small Jewish ghetto and hear tales of residents past and present. Then, proceed to downtown and explore the area where one of Europe’s largest Jewish ghettos once stood.
Then, head to Alfama— Lisbon’s oldest district— where Jewish culture has blossomed for centuries and hear insightful facts about the Jewish community’s role in Lisbon’s development.

- Not recommended for travellers with mobility issues. The tour is done by car but it involves walking around Alfama. The floor is uneven.
- The Carmo Archaeological Museum is closed on Sundays and the Money Museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
- Our tours have a set start time. Any delay of more than 30 minutes will be considered a no show.
- Additional luggage is only available upon request and depending on the company's availability.
- Please note that in Portugal from October to March it starts to get dark from 6pm onwards.

Very interesting historical presentation of the Jewish Heritage of Lisbon and Portugal

Vasco was an excellent tour guide. His love for his country and knowledge about Lisbon history and the Jewish history are very evident. He took us to all of the important places and explained things so well. He was a professor at the university for 20 years and now loves to share his knowledge and passion with others. David was extremely knowledgeable and we visited a great variety of sights having to do with the Jewish history of Lisbon. His itinerary was comprehensive and thoughtful--even with a break for drinks and a bathroom. He is part of a small agency and personally has a great interest and knowledge of the area and subject. This was an amazing tour. First of all our guide Daniel was amazing. Personable, passionate and knowledgeable. You could tell that it was not just a job for him but something he really loved. The amount of information that he provided and the things he showed us that we would have never figured out on our own of the Jewish history of Portugal was unreal. This was one of our favorite experiences in this beautiful city. We learned so much from our guide Diogo. His knowledge was quite impressive. Our guide, Daniel, was very knowledgeable and personable. However i assumed on a Jewish tour we would visit the synagogues. We did not. I am very disappointed. It was an expensive tour. Again, Daniel was great but I do not know how you have a Jewish tour without going to the Synagogues…..

Lisbon has two synagogues: one Sephardic, where visits are quite limited and best arranged independently, and one Reform, a small community sustained entirely by voluntary work, where regular visits have unfortunately become unfeasible.

This experience covered the history of Jewish Lisbon and by extension of Portugal from the beginnings of the country. Vasco, our guide was not only knowledgeable, but friendly and engaging at the same time. His van was air conditioned which was much appreciated on the hot day of our private tour. Vasco offered to help us with any concerns we might have and he was prepared to answer any of our questions regarding our trip to Lisbon in general. His English was excellent and we appreciated his courtesy. We can recommend this tour and this guide to anyone interested in the history of the Jewish community in Lisbon and Portugal.

August 1 was the first day of our trip to Lisbon. Vasco was our guide for a private Jewish tour of the important sights in Lisbon for four hours in the afternoon. He promptly met us on time, explained the areas and sights we were to see and asked if there was anything special to add..
We were overwhelmed with his knowledge and dates going back centuries. We stopped and had delicious pastries, for which Lisbon is known. He drove the narrow alleys and backroads with the ease of a NASCAR driver. The sights were astounding, the backdrops, such as the Tagus River, added to the scenery.
I would highly recommend Vasco as a guide to any of my friends and relatives that visit this beautiful city.
